I got this to use the online tests to practice, but there were only 3 so that didn't help much. It also didn't explain why the ones I got wrong were wrong. I liked the Mosby computer practice tests better because they explained why the answer was wrong. This book was good for review though, I didn't study much but the questions were similar to the content and format of the Federation test. I didn't take the national, but I assume and have heard that the Mosby book & questions are more similar to the national test. I wish I had just borrowed a copy instead of spending money on it.

This is the PERFECT book to use for review/studying for the National test. I would recommend spending time looking up more info on the five element theory and the Chakras other than that there is nothing more needed and the free website was a great help. I passed the first time.!

I used this book and did well on the nationals... the secret is that about a quarter of the questions on the actual test have to do with eastern modalities .. namely shiatsu and the chinese KO cycle... go to wikipedia and look up the KO cycle ... there it has a chart shaped like a star with a circle around it... print it out and come up with a way to memorize the chart (my secret was FEM Wild Woman.. like Fire Earth Metal Water Wood) then make word associations to remember the colors, (like water is blue, wood comes from trees that have green leaves, fire is red, dirt is yellow with some other colors mixed in and it comes from the earth)directions, organs, tastes, energies (like corporal soul, spirit soul etc), and emotions associated with each element...it sounds goofy but this technique saved me...memorize where and what each meridian is... MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO THIS!!! all of the things that i just listed ARE on the test.. other than the origins and insertions of the muscles it's the hardest thing about the test... i was shocked at how much of the test was this stuff that i was never going to use anywhere else! there was also a tiny bit on the chakras (a 5 minute review is probably enough)... ).. and a lot of the thinking questions (don't worry they're not as bad as the book put out by the national board makes them out to be) like "if an elderly person has a raised hip which muscles are weakened?" this exact question isn't asked but there are many like that..
the questions in the book are very similar to those on the boards...if you can pass the tests in this book the first time you should be able to pass the nationals (i thought that i was going to have a heart attack the day before the test because i was so overwhelmed.. i really didn't think that i'd pass because i'd only been cramming 8 hours per day for 2 weeks and didn't feel prepared and i actually, not only passed, but did well) .. just study this book and you'll be fine
i just thought that i'd write a little something to help out other people going through what i just went though... don't panic... i passed the first time and i attended a school that taught to the state boards and had no eastern modalities in it's curriculm ... if you study this book and the stuff that i just listed you'll be fine.. my mom also read that chewing gum helps when test taking because it helps the left and right hemispheres of your brain communicate better and i swear that it worked! Good luck!

BUY this book, and go buy his video companion set! I have read many different deep tissue books over the years, and this one is by far the best! It is interesting to read, covers all the important topics, it clearly demonstrates the techniques and he offers quality advice on current political issues in the industry. I had no idea that there were chiropractars trying to limit our practice! Its a great book, probably one of the best!.. Up there with Anatomy Trains, Leon Chaitow books, and Trivell/Simmons Trigger point manual.

Covers lots of ground!

I immediately came home and ordered this 4th edition book. Wow, has it grown. The book is everything I expected and needed. The information is so clear and easy to understand and would be very helpful to anyone who has a interest in pathology.

I had post trauma stress disorder from my sons accident and could not get the image of his badly damaged leg out of my mind day or when I lay down at night....For months I had prayed for God to remove it, I used counter thought messaging to no avail. I knew God could but many times he wants us to use tools he has given use to heal and balance our body.. I knew the benefits of acupressure and balancing of our body and it energies.... When I saw this book I said WOW! I bought it and went through the post trauma stress disorder steps always beginning each phrase with [God] not [I] help me accept myself even though I'M upset about what happened and the continued steps
It was unbelievable after only 4 times of going through the steps I no longer had the horrible picture vivid in my mind anymore.... I truly recommend this book with always putting God at the beginning of each phrase!!!!

Over all a very good book if you are looking for an alternative to certain medications. Eventhough it was great to read the detailed explainations, I wish the author included a list of breif steps, or short cuts if you will. I know there has got to be a better way to help you fall asleep and rest.

Having done EFT for years using only the [...] site, I ordered this book for a friend (who tends not to value anything one can get for free). My purchase was sight unseen (other than the look inside feature) and based on reviews of others. The friend read the book and raved about how great it was. But never really applied the technique. Probably less to do with the book than the friend not being ready to clear his issues. You can lead a horse to water...

Some tips: Stay with a comfortable rhythm, Be sure your hands are warm before your start, use more oil if your partner has hairy legs.

This book does offer pictures to guide how the strokes should go.
However, if you're already "into" giving massages, you probably know most of what is here.

Another book I highly recommended, It's ideal for any romantic occasion is Sex and the perfect lover by Mabel Iam. (Hardcover)

This is a great book if you're a man and want to give your significant other a great massage, but it's clear that a man has done all the photography. My husband and I had to laugh when we noticed that all the women are pictured full frontal while all the guys are shot from the back! I have since found that most massage books follow that same philosophy. It's interesting that, given the century and the subject material, a photographed (...) still seems to be taboo. I finally had to order a book aimed at gays in order to get actual pictures and how-tos on giving my partner a sensual massage.

Remarkable Book!

If you want to learn how to actually DO a sensual massage from head to toes, there is no better book you can buy than "The New Sensual Massage." The author's sensitivity and love for this wonderful art, comes through on every page. You are taken step by step through every phase of a complete body massage, but the best thing about the book is the way you can use it right away to do a little bit of massage. Then you can add to your small massage as you learn more technique. All the massage strokes are clearly explained and illustrated with terrific photography and many anatomical illustration, which are based on the photos. You really have the feeling that the author is talking to you and guiding you every step of the way. He even tells you how various strokes will feel to your partner. The people in the photos look beautiful. Massage is a great thing to know because it really does work. I realize now that there is no need to hire a pro when you can learn how to do this yourself so easily.

No hype here, this is a book to keep and treasure. This is also a great book to give as a romantic gift, because it shows how much you care about your significant other's pleasures.

Very easy to understand and useful to the novice. The book begins with a history of the development of Jin Shin then goes to the quick easily used finger "jumper cabling" and the association of each finger with organs and systems within the body. Only then does the book go into various flows and Safety Energy Locks/points on the body that can be worked and how they can be used.

Too many points to heal
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 7 total.
Review Date: 2006-11-13
I bought the book after a practitioner used this technique on me. However, the information provided is too extensive and confusing, listing far too many "points" in the body with corresponding healing touches to keep track of them. The body map listing them is in the first part of the book, so you have to flip back and forth to see what the author is referring to. I also thought some of the miraculous healing claims a little outrageous. The way this system originated is also a little murky. This is a better book for people training to learn this practice than for the lay public.

I bought this book to learn more in depth information about the qigong class I am taking. I love the way the material is organized! I read this book slowly and underlined many passages. There are some deep truths here. Whether you are trying to decide to start the practice of qigong or are already enjoying it's myriad benefits, this book will increase your understanding of the mysterious qi. There are qigong exercises presented in the book with lovely drawings, but it is still better to find a class or group to fully understand how to perform the movements properly with the breath. The practice of qigong has improved my life, my health, and my energy, exponentially! May you find great benefit, too!

Good Intro, but a bit soft on technical details

I don't mean to dampen the enthusiasm other readers have shown. This book is a terrific introduction to the theory and idea of qi and its cultivation and uses. The tone is a bit "New Agey" though, with Stuart Smiley-style affirmations at the end of each chapter ("I create, maximize, and sustain an inner reserve of potential to optimize my health, life, and being.") And in covering a wide swath, Jahnke invariably sacrifices depth for breadth. As one reader noted, the Macrocosmic Orbit, widely considered a key to qi cultivation, is given a very cursory description. If you're new to this stuff, this book is a great overview of the subject, but understand that it is really an orientation, not an adequate how-to manual. And there's the danger that in all the warm and cozy prose, one can lose sight of the fact that the Chinese regard qi gong as a discipline requiring exactitude, discipline and dedication. So buy this or read it if you're looking to get oriented in the subject, then buy one of the clear technical manuals available or, better yet, have the supreme good fortune to find a great teacher.

The Practice and Spirit of Qigong/Tai Chi Revealed
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2007-11-20
What a great book! Well written and fascinating to read. I liked the poetic quotes from various Qi masters that introduce each chapter. I had read some other books on energy healing (e.g., "Energy Medicine"), but this book was the one that brought home the general concepts about energy healing while presenting a practice that is easy to follow without being technical (I.e, if you are interested in details about meridians and Chakras, you're better off with different book like "Energy Medicine," which to me was overwheming in its details and techniques.).

"The Healing Promise of Qi" emphasizes the importance of body alignment, breath, and mind and breaks the Qigong/Tai Chi practice down into ten steps:

1. Discover Qi
2. Gaher Qi
3. Circulate Qi
4. Purify Qi
5. Direct Qi
6. Conserve Qi
7. Store Qi
8. Transform Qi
9. Dissolve in Qi
10. Transmit Qi

Approximately 1-3 exercises are presented for each step (total 10-15 exercises) to help you develop the Qi flow.

The book then finishes off in the later chapters with an "owner's manual" or guide for your practice and a discussion on the science of Qi (fields of energy, mind and consciousness, etc.).

I have been following the practice, and the exercises have really helped me relax amid the stress of everyday life. The exercises take less than 10 minutes, plus they help me to meditate more easily.

The author's words ring true and sincere, and he has organized his topics well. I believe in his general message that anyone's health would benefit from following the practice of Qigong/Tai Chi.

A Seminal Work

Review Date: 2007-07-08
After a number of readings, it is clear that this book is both broad and deep. It is very accessible for those just beginning their investigations into Qi, energy and personal cultivation. AND it is among the most penetrating books for those who seek deeper knowledge of wellbeing, energetics and even the eternal nature. There is fact (health, healing, physiology and quantum), theory (Chinese Medicine, Chinese philosophy, Daoism, Buddhism), inspiration (the most profound medicine is within, the eternal radiant spirit can be revealed), story (tales of a probably fictional mountain monastery and probably real Qi masters the author has met and studied with). There is also a profound vision for the potential of the human species as the cultivation of our deeper nature is more widely pursued.

As both a doctor of Chinese medicine and a long time teacher of Qigong and Tai Chi, the author has experience, authority and very alluring language. The book is easy and fun to read. It could be opened anywhere. One endorsement, from the author of Manifesto For A New Medicine, James Gordon MD says "I look forward to referring to -- and using -- this book for years to come." And Joan Borysenko, author of many books on the Mind/Body revolution calls it "A gem that you will treasure for the rest of your life." Deepak Chopra calls Dr Jahnke, "a wise teacher and healer" and his Qigong "simple yet profound".

Nowhere have we seen (and this is mentioned in a number of the Amazon reviews) such a clear map of the territory of Qigong, Tai Chi and the cultivation of personal power and virtue.

I have also appreciated, very much, Dr Jahnke's first book, The Healer Within The Healer Within: Using Traditional Chinese Techniques To Release Your Body's Own Medicine *Movement *Massage *Meditation *Breathing.

These are seminal works in the emerging new Quantum world of energy, empowerment and self-reliance. Qigong, it appears, is an accessible portal to our maximum potential and a method to access our deepest power -- simply yet profoundly.

Any opportunity we can learn more about how they live is a gift to all humans. They are so willing to teach us - we just need to open our hearts and minds and accept all that they are willing to give. They can truly change the way we live, this book helps to show you just that.

Pro: very comprehensive, good for those who need all the information

Con: very comprehensive, too much detail violates the spirit of Oriental Medicine

Great resource

This text is required for my TCM program to earn my acupuncture degree. I've found it to be one of my favorite textbooks that I've had to buy so far. Its informative, clearly organized, and thorough. Information on the herbs include the properties, a picture, main functions organized in order of importance, and some interesting 'comments' about them as well. All the herbs are organized by category. My only complaint is how heavy it is to carry to class but what can you do? It should hopefully be the only Materia Medica that I will have to buy during the whole program!

Good Information, but embarrassingly full of printing errors

While the information is excellent, there are so many printing errors that it is laughable. How could so many mistakes make it into publication, especially at the price charged? I hope future editions can rectify this seemingly easy problem, again before it sold as a product.

Great Book. It is the Merriam Webster of the Chinese Medical Herbs Reference

Great Book for anyone who is a novice or even a Chinese Physician. I have a few other Herbal Reference but once I got this Book, it is always the first choice whenever I need to look out for a particular chinese herb.

Worth every penny I paid for!
