Having put to practice Dr. Willey's suggested regimen in both diet and exercise that is outlined in his book, both personally and for dozens of my patients, I can attest to its effectiveness. What intrigues me most is the concept that this is about total body health and well being...not just a "fad" diet.
As I employ these principles taught within Dr. Willey's work and in utilizing these principles in dealing with weight loss, healthy eating habits and exercise prescriptions, I find that not only do we have positive outcomes in well being, but this empowers patients -- they recognize they have power over many of their illnesses and can manage these disease states with appropriate non-prescriptive ways, or at the very least, find that their control of their hypertension, diabetes, insulin resistance etc. with their medications is vastly improved.
One thing is certain. If the principles found within this book were acted upon we would have a healthier populace within this country. Promoted effectively, these principles should certainly replace the reliance we've recently had on such diets as the Atkin's diet.

I am a practicing surgeon and enjoyed reading Dr. Willey's book. His approach to weight loss is based on sound biochemical as well as medical principles. Rather than focusing on diet methods that require difficult to follow meal plans, starvation, total food group avoidance, etc., Dr. Willey emphasizes lifestyle changes that are easier to follow and adhere to, and do not lead to organ system breakdown and overload---things that are all-too- commonplace with certain popular fad diets. Reading his book gives one the opportunity to not only learn the proper foods to eat, but probably more importantly, the correct timing of meals and exercise to allow safe, effective and lasting weight loss and total body fitness.

His diet plans and teachings allow all people willing to participate the opportunity to regain self-respect, self-esteem and to see amazing results without trying dietary restrictions that leave people looking for the next 'miracle diet'. Proper application of good eating habits as well as tolerable exercise regimens allow all readers the ability to safely achieve their weight loss and fitness goals, while still being able to have 'vacation days' and not give up all favorite snacks.

I personally agree with the lessons learned by reading this insightful book and highly recommend it to all those who seek a very achievable level of fitness and health. Dr. Willey practices what he preaches!!!!!!

I am a nurse practitioner and work in a primary care setting. I have several weight loss patients who are looking for inexpensive, practical, solutions to manage their weight, improve blood pressure control, improve diebetes control, and boost their energy.

Dr. Willey has producted the easiest application of an optimal health program that I have read. He has a very talented ability of integrating cutting-edge medicine with inexpensive, applicable eating plans. I give his book to each of my weight loss patients and review specific chapters like "Develop and Understanding of Food" and "Food Timing" at their follow-up visits. My patients who apply his teachings to their eating styles report that they drop dress sizes and reduce waiste lines. They report improved energy levels, better sleeping patters, and lose weight. I have noted improvements in their blood pressure, blood glucose control, body composition and the less need for medications, etc. It is a health care providers dream!

The book is written for the public, not the medical community. It is easy to understand and apply. It is a must read for health care providers and anyone wanting to maximize their health!

As a physical therapist, I was impressed by the comprehensive approach to health and fitness that this book offered to its readers. I especially appreciated the section covering stress and sleep, which is all too often left out of an exercise program. The use of nutrition and exercise in conjunction with each other, really offers a reader a lifestyle rather than just a program to follow. It is made easy, fun and very do-able for even the most sceptical. As I leader and director of a facility, I have already recommended this book to my patients and my therapists to use as a resource for home exercises programs.

I bought the book following hip replacement surgery, which left me handicapped and I now follow the excercise regime laid out, paying
attention to the precautions which accompany the various movements.
This I have found to be very useful.

The procedure for calculating my daily caloric intake, together with the
Body Mass Index Table and the list of Calories Burned per Hour during the
performance of various activities has been very informative.

It is also comforting to note that the authors list the sources from which their data is obtained

This book provides great information for those interested in getting back into shape, or for those who want to add something new to their existing exercise program. The information is provided in an easy to follow, step by step format. It is also unique due to the fact the book is written by a dietician and a physcial therapist. As a physical therapist myself, I was excited to see this unique colaboration. I will feel confident in providing this literature to my patients as an adjunct to therapy.

This book is well done. Anti-Aging books come in all shapes and forms. This book gives excellent advice regarding this matter. The program presented is like a prescription (hence the title). You follow what is presented to you knowing there is science behind the advice.

The book covers a very important area in modern medicine. The aging baby boomers who are beginning to retire. So many have neglected their physical health (and diet) for too long. The book offers a practical program for improving one's health no matter what age. The book does not offer to stop aging. No one can promise such an idea. The book will help you control how you feel as you age as well as what practical steps you can take as time goes by.

The book is well illustrated. The book is written by well a known dietician and physical therapist.

This is good attack on modern medicines use of drugs and how they could be avoided.. Since plants can't be patented like drugs so little research is done on thier powers.. But if you buy this book you'll be able to do quite a bit of research on herbs, vitamins, amino acids and power foods.. I could share things that aren't in this book that work but who knows I might want to sell a remedy myself someday..

The book can be sometimes confusing where the information is so thick it becomes confusing.. It doesn't have every rememdy in the world here but is without a doubt the best attempt to do so..

You can find maximium dossages for various vitamins in this book... It is well organized and has a little bit of everything.. If your suffering you might be able to do some deductive resoning to cure yourself of your ailment.. good luck..

THIS IS A JEWEL PEOPLE. I OWN ABOUT 25 BOOKS ON HERBS, VITAMINS, AND NATURAL HEALING. THIS BOOK IS BY FAR THE MOST USEFUL OUT OF MY ENTIRE LIBRARY. WHEN I NEED TO KNOW SOMETHING, I GRAB THIS BOOK FIRST, AND RARELY DO I NEED TO GO FURTHER TO ANOTHER BOOK.

THE AUTHOR WROTE THIS COMPENDIUM WITH "INFORMATION" IN MIND. IT ISN'T WELL WRITTEN. IT'S MORE LIKE A BRAIN DRAIN OF DATA ON JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING YOU CAN EVER WANT TO LOOK UP. THE GOOD THING IS THAT YOU'LL LEARN AMAZING THINGS THAT YOU WON'T FIND IN ANY OTHER BOOK IN EXISTENCE. THE BAD THING IS THAT SOMETIMES YOU MAY GET ANNOYED WITH THE SEARCH FOR SOMETHING. IT IS CLUTTERED AND AT TIMES LABORIOUS WHEN TRYING TO LOCATE SOMETHING.

I HOPE THE AUTHOR WILL INCLUDE BETTER HEADINGS AND BETTER ORGANIZATION OF MATERIAL UNDER EACH HEADING IN A NEWER EDITION...

BUY THIS BOOK.

I have 3 words for you: BUY THIS BOOK!!

THis is the most informative, thorough, interesting book on natural health I have ever read!

If you hate to read, this book is probably not for you. It's also not for people who have trouble comprehending what they read. People who love to read, who have a intense interest in nutrition, natural health, science, or healing will absolutely adore this book. I guard mine with my life! Especially now that I see it is out of print. If I had the cash, I would buy another copy while I still can. The book is truly incredible! It contains a phenomenol amount of information. Very in-depth details, everything you need to know about specific vitamins, herbs, minerals, amino acids, etc. And also enlightening information regarding some unorthodox healing methods. In depth information about energy, electricity, auras, and so forth. It is absolutely amazing how much information this book contains. The format and organization is unique, and in some ways difficult to follow at first. BUt that's because it contains SO MUCH information! And the quality of the information it contains is worth taking the time to re-read it. The author did an incredible job with this book, and you can tell he put a great deal of time, effort, and research into it! It's worth it's weight in gold!! (And this is one heavy book! :)

A Bully Grows Up: Erik Meets the Wizard

As the baby boomer generation reaches the 'new middle age' we search for new information to assist in creating a more healthy and viable future for us, our parents and our children. The connection between our daily environmental and personal stressors and our overall health is important. Studies have proved that stress has a significant effect on our longevity. As an author of a children's book regarding bullying behavior and frequent speaker regarding the topic of bullying and stress, I am keenly aware of this connection. This book offers a vast understandable quantity of information regarding our predisposition to DNA damage and offers easy to follow steps on how to hold on to or improve our health. A great navigational aid for our journey into the future.

A few years ago I purchased "The Bedroom Workout" DVD for my boyfriend, and was impressed with Andy Troy's clear, efficient, logical approach to a sound exercise routine. When I saw this book was available I decided to take a chance on it too.

This is a very, very worthwhile book that gives many valuable suggestions and tips for living a healthier and more satisfying life. It is not a rigid, overwhelming, over-hyped "how-to" manual. Instead, Mr. Troy presents a wealth of information on a wide range of topics (aromatherapy to vitamin intake, for instance) in concise, easy-to-read chapters. The reader is then free to take what ideas/suggestions they want from this book, and find ways to apply these ideas to their own life.

Essentially, living younger, and better, does boil down to the daily decisions that we all make regarding what we eat, the amount of physical activity we get, how much time we allow for sleep, etc. Andy Troy provides us with the information we need to make better decisions, and start incorporating good habits into our daily routine. Everyone can find some material of use and interest in this book.

It has been a while since I have felt compelled to express my joy at a worthwhile, and actually helpful commodity. On the mostly rare occasions, when I find a product that I feel can improve the quality of life, I do feel bound to promote or inform about my find. Two years ago, I offered a review of a health DVD by this author, and so, recently, when I saw that Andy Troy published a book, well, it had to be explored.

Living Young: 32 Habits of Ageless People, turns out to be an informative and practical book of advice about maintaining health into old age. Mr. Troy, CSCS, has written an organized, concise, and user friendly guide to taking care of yourself, once and for all! He takes you through a daily regiment that sometimes requires a little time and planning, yet each step is manageable, with some thought. Although I believe that I do, and have, taken basic care of myself, this book empowers and enables me to clearly prioritize my activities for greatest impact. The book allows me to re-think my habits in a clear fashion so I can make decisions on how to improve and maximize my day to day routines which do impact my health. His suggestions are very worthwhile, and those not in my present repertoire will be slowly and thoughtfully included, down to his recipes and suggestions for dining!

This is a good and quick read with long term benefits for everyone. I strongly and highly recommend this book for all!

With a title like, "The Baby Boomers' Guide To Living Forever," it would be easy to pass over this book with the assumption that it is a journey into some sort of medical never-never land. But as I quickly discovered, this is far from the case. "The Baby Boomers' Guide" shapes as an absolutely fascinating, at times scholarly, tour of what middle age America can do to improve both the quality and quantity of life. Dr. Grossman covers a remarkable spectrum of topics and, with support from co-authors who are experts in each of dozens of medical/health areas, provides an astonishing treasure of useful information. This is one of those rare books that can literally change the course of the reader's life. "Baby Boomers' Guide" is must reading for anyone who is serious about extending their years, perhaps beyond anything that they ever imagined was possible.

At first blush most of the information if acted on in the book will probably result in adding years, if not decades to some peoples lives. My own recommendation is to do your own independent research [separate from this book], first, if you make any life changing adjustments, particularly if it involves consuming vitamins suggested in the book. Some of the recommendations only strengthened what I already knew, such as taking Co-Q10 on a daily basis. Co-Q10 is expensive, but a very good nutrient that can help protect your body from free radical damage, resulting in reduced risks of succumbing to various cancers and heart diseases. Other recommendations in the book did raise some concerns for me such as consuming L-Carnosine on a daily basis. Research i've found dating back to 1984 expressed that L-Carnosine built up in the body can potentially have dangerous neurotoxic side effects. Taking too much of it could induce what is medically referred to as "Carnosinemia", which also can be inherited. Most of the oral vitamin supplements in the market offer L-Carnosine at 500MG doses, recommending you take it once or twice daily. The book recommends 200MG per day in single or "divided doses" and stressed "its low level of toxicity"...... but I don't know how much is too much frankly, so I will avoid this particular molecule until more research data is known.

An Excellent Guide To The Life-Extension Revolution!

Over the years I have read several health oriented books promoting ideas for healthier and longer lives for us, this one is by far the best, containing down-to-earth advice of a practical and far reaching nature. Many areas are covered, including supplements from arginine to zinc, social issues, and lots of other topics.

This book supports the method of using biostasis (cryonics) at the time of death as a means of reaching the future era of advanced nanomedicine, much anticipated by many scientists who work in this nascent field. About fifteen pages are devoted to cryonics, a very good introduction to this subject, an idea and practice that is slowly becoming 'mainstream'. In fact, Terry Grossman, himself an M.D., is signed up for cryonics.

Overall, this volume contains much useful advice and should be read by everyone.

I like that the authors are both credentialed nutrition professionals with many years of practice in the field of nutrition. This book is sound advice that can be practiced for a lifetime - it is not a fad or something that you can do for just a few weeks and then it will be impractical. The plan described in this book is based on scientific literature and is sensible. If you are looking to make a permanent change in your health and eating, this is the book for you.

I am a fitness professional, and last May I attended a lecture at UCLA on anti-aging foods taught by the author. I loved everything she talked about and immediately ordered her book from Amazon. For the last month I have eaten mainly the foods she extolled (fruits, veggies, nuts, olive oil, fish, soy) and have made many of the recipes in the book. I have never felt better! In fact,I am planning on giving this book to all my training clients for Christmas. Even my husband and teenage kids love most of the recipes. Every recipe has been absolutely delicious and fairly simple to make. You may need to go to a special market that sells organic or ethnic food to buy some of the ingredients rather than find everything at the supermarket, but it's worth it. My only complaint is that she didn't include more recipes using cocoa powder. It has the highest antioxidant rating, yet she features it in only 3 recipes--none of them dessert! I hope Cheryl does a second book. Atkins, shmatkins! This is the way to eat!

It's not a fad diet!

The American Institute for Cancer Research recommends this same style of eating, with a focus on antioxidants and getting back to home-made food using basic ingredients. The book provides a lot of motivation and easy-to-understand explanations of what modern research has identified in terms of the cancer-fighting and age-fighting benefits of each food group. Good recipes too.

This book is INCREDIBLE! It is down-to-earth, easy to read and understand and follow. Paul and Meredith's tone of care and concern for HEALTH, LONGEVITY and WELL-BEING really come through in this book. I HIGHLY recommend it. And despite the fact I have practiced CR for many years - I still gained a lot of useful information from this book. A MUST read for everyone that cares enough about themselves and their health - based on research and they practice what they preach!

A CR Book I Can Share!

Back when I was 200 pounds, 6 months after having my third child--I was shopping around for a diet book when I ran across 'Beyond The 120 Year Diet' the only known thing to extend human life. I read it, and re-read it, followed it to a tee and lost 85 pounds over the next 6 months. I felt so good about my life, so healthy and full of energy, I wanted to share what I'd learned--I gave 10 copies out to my closest friends and family that Christmas. Sadly, I heard from many (those that told me) that it was 'too scientific', or 'too hard'. I had liked it, but understood it could be difficult to read. Some of those I loved, still were overweight like I had been and I didn't think they 'got the message' like I had--they'd not been inspired... Now, 6 years later, a few more CR books have come and gone, this is the newest on the scene. It has all the same basic information in an easy to read format, but it has the updated science and even addresses some new research such as intermittent fasting--but it is all presented in a simple to 'digest' manner :-). The authors do not present one narrow path of how to do calorie restriction, instead they give many routes to the same longevity benefits. The book is a smorgasbord for people who are at different commitment levels to CR, you can do it as in depth or as lightly as you want. The authors give you the information to do CR on a busy lifestyle. This year I have a new book to share, to inspire my friends and family. This is the first book since 'Beyond The 120 Year Diet' that I can confidently give as a present, and know it will educate in a gentle manner, and at the very least impart a heightened sense of awareness about the food my friends and family eat, so small steps can be taken for better health. I recommend this book to those interested in a diet that works, and becomes second nature for a healthier, longer life.

I am new to Calorie Restriction = but this book made it EASY to get started. They have plenty of good, thorough descriptions for someone new to CR - yet there is a lot there for someone who might already be practicing CR, but needs some help. I found all the information invaluable and the recipes are REALLY great. I think the authors are really teaching us something that has changed their life and I don't know how anyone could read this without it changes theirs too. HIGHLY RECOMMEND for anyone wanting to improve their health.

This is the first book on Calorie Restriction that I have actually enjoyed reading. It might be that the book is not geared to only the science oriented. There's lots of research gone into the book but it's presented in an 'easy to read' manner - that's the best way I can explain how it's written. I'm not through with it yet but so far it gets 5 stars.

I just started on a calorie restriction program to improve my health and longevity. This book is the best book I have read on calorie restriction and how it can improve the quality and length of your life. You will find a useful summary of the science behind calorie restriction and how to use calorie restriction in your life. This is not a weight loss diet and because of the committment to moderate and healthy eating, most Americans will consider this program impractical and not for them. However, if you truly are interested in a way to long longer and healthier, get the book now.
