This book had me interested from the moment I started reading it.
Very informative with some intriguing view points from the author
about being alive and handling diversity. An easy enjoyable read I did not want to put down. This book has been an inspiration to me and makes me feel I can handle the future in a more positive way. This book is also philosophical,as the author explains his beliefs very well. If you want a good insight on your own future read this book.

Helen Wallace has done it again. This book is every bit as funny as the "High Back Pain and Very Close Veins." The only thing wrong with it--it was much too short! I look forward to reading more from her in the future.

The Beginning of Much Needed Change
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2004-09-10
This book has the potential of greatly improving many lives. As the author points out so well, many people forsake way too much for the often-illusionary dream of "golden years," when they can finally relax, enjoy their lives, endulge their passions, travel, etc. However, the book illustrates that the TRADITIONAL ways of viewing retirement are WRONG in today's world. It stifles creativity, joy, exploration, fulfillment, and ultimately one's longevity. The author is on to something important. A paradigm shift is needed and this book is just the one to start it. Read it with an open mind and you'll notice subtle changes in your thinking, an increased sense of enthusiasm, and a new plan for your future.

The great thing about this book is that Peter Dorsen writes with a sense of humor. You can tell he's not a traditional, button-down, by-the-book doc. There's lots of advice and information, but it's also fun to read. This would be a terrific book for women, too, if they want to get to know their over-40 guy better. I'm surprised it hasn't become a best seller.

This book helped me lose 32 pounds & 4 inches off my waist

Review Date: 2008-04-26
When I was diagnosed with a major health issue 2.5 years ago, at age 64, I decided it was time to be proactive about living a healthy life style. That is when I came across Dr. Mollen's book at our local library. My primary objective was, not to lose weight but to eat healthy, to improve my situation. I followed Dr. Mollen's advice for a healthy life style change and within 6 months I had lost 32 pounds. Besides that I went from a large to a medium shirt size and from a 38 inch waistline to 34 inches. I bought all new clothes and am told that I look great.
I have much more energy, my cholesterol is excellent, my blood pressure reading taken by my doctor recently was 120 over 80. I have been 20 to 30 pounds overweight most of my adult life but for the past two years have easily maintained my proper weight. I have tried diets before but this is not a diet, it is a life stlye change. I do not count calories or go hungry. I eat all I desire but eat the right kinds of foods and enjoy all of them. I highly recommend this book. Dr. Mollen is right on. I am living proof.

Driving with Confidence: A Practical Guide to Driving with L

The authors offer people with low vision an optimistic, do-it-yourself, down-to-earth approach to obtaining or retaining a driver's license.
My husband has age-related macular degeneration, and we have gone the rounds of doctors, specialists, laser and photodynamic-something-or-other treatments, plus the DMV.
This "practical guide" explains various eye diseases cataract, AMD, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, retinitis pigmentosa, optic atrophy, corneal dystrophy, stroke at least as clearly or maybe even more clearly as have the professionals whom we have consulted.
The guide urges readers to educate themselves about their state's DMV vision policy, investigate the various aids and devices available for vision-impaired drivers, and then come to their own conclusion as to whether they should be behind the wheel.
Among the amazing devices described in this guide are minifying mirrors by Brookstone, bioptic telescopes (Galilean and Keplerian) mounted on regular glasses, a telescope implanted in the eye, and the GPS-based iRadio system being developed by Motorola.
Surprise! there are personal trainers who specialize in teaching low-vision drivers!
The 104 pages of appendices are a valuable resource, providing definitions, contact information for further information and support, DMV vision requirements in 50 states plus D.C., and a bibliography.
This book is IN BIG PRINT! Very thoughtful.

I have had Carlson Wade's Book (Eat Away Illness) for several years, and would not part with my copy of this great book. I have found that the information here is invaluable, and cannot be found anywhere else. To my knowledge Carlson was the first one I ever herd talk about free radicals, and now its almost common to hear this talked about daily. He goes into great detail about how to turn the aging process around, and feel youthful once more. Although it may be a little expensive to begin the process of changing the way you eat, its well worth it in the end. The results are marvelous. The only other book I could mention that would go hand in hand is Jethro Closs book (Back to Eden). In any case this is a book well worth the money.

"It's Cool to be Elder Cool"

In Elder Cool Time: The Purpose-Evolving Life Filled with the Fears, Tears, and Cheers in Facing and Embracing the Aging Process(2006) author John H. Green, Ph.D. introduces the reader to what it means to be "Elder Cool." He describes "Elder" to represent a life-experienced teacher, and "Cool" to mean accepting the aging process with grace and dignity. Actions and words he states contribute to being "Elder Cool."
Throughout the book reflections, quotes, short stories and poetry are laced with humor to talk about the very tough problem of adjusting to growing old. For example, "You might be Elder Cool if you know when it's time to... Be Sex Wise and Loving with or without videos; Face and Embrace your physical maladies; and Have a Faith Check are some of the topics addressed.
Elder Cool stories include tributes to his Mom and Pop. Dr. Green describes Pope John Paul II as a "Classic Elder Cool. And, FSU Seminole fans will be pleased to see "Bad Bobby Bowden" as a noted Elder Cool.
Elder Cool Rules of what's Hot and what's Not will help you decide whether You are Elder Cool. I think Dr. Green has introduced a concept - "Elder Cool" that will be used by many to promote "It's Cool to be Elder Cool."
It sounds like once again Dr. Green who teaches at St. Johns River Community College in St. Augustine, Florida is teaching all of us. Thank you Dr. Green.
