This is certainly the most comprehensive analysis on a hot-button issue in grade inflation. The framework presented in this monograph clarifies the distinctions yet interrelations of various commonly-misunderstood problems in college grading. It also presents how grading problems could distort student educational decisions such as choice of course work and even major fields. This is more alarming in a policy environment that good grades are rewarded with merit aid.

This was the bible for measuring affinity constants during my Ph.D. It was the first and often only reference for many techniques we used. It is a must have, even at this price.

In my opinion this book is a thorough and carefully written introduction into the topic of stress analysis of machinery and structures. The book covers the theory of the basic concepts. The author paid attention to carefully explain the important ideas.

First, the fundamental concepts of strain gages and strain gage types are explored. Second, the fundamental concepts of stress-strain analysis are reviewed. What follows is a thorough development of the circuit equations, from the elementary circuits to the Wheatstone Bridge. Then, certain effects are addressed and data analysis is discussed.

Since this book is an introduction to the topic it is not necessarily a practical handbook to perform stress analysis. But I think it provides the background to use such a handbook.

"The Bottomline on ROI" written by Patricia Phillips explains the principles of the Return on Investment (ROI) process clearly and succinctly and points out the most imporant aspects of implementing the process in order that it be successful. It is an important addition to the field of measurement and evaluation because it provides the benefit of Phillips's extensive experience in the field of measuring training and performance improvement but at the same time does not intimidate the new practitioner. Although my library is filled with books on evaluation, I keep this one in my hip pocket.

Being one of the first students to analyze and experience the BPFT was quite amazing. Not only because it was a chance to be a part of something new but mostly because I could see that this test will revolutionize physicial fitness testing. This is a collection of tests that can be used for able and disabled students with standards for both. The brilliancy of this work is that it fully allows you to customize a physical fitness test battery for nearly any student.

Banta has drawn together a diversity of voices representing the leading thinkers and implementers of assessment. This diversity of one of the strengths of the book, as it offers the reader the opportunity to select from many viewpoints and experience-bases. The content includes a great review of the history of assessment. The articles also build an important and relevant bridge between the scholarship of teaching and learning and assessment. This is not the best book for nuts and bolts ideas for how to do assessment, and readers who are looking for that, would be served by other titles (such as Assessment Clear and Simple : A Practical Guide for Institutions, Departments, and General Education by Barbara E. Walvoord).

Thoroughly described and perfectly organized, this book encompasses from the basics power-level measurements to those complex distortion calculations. A must have for the Engineering Department at any cable TV company.
