Loved this book. The supposed final book in the Montana Malone series. (please write another one, Anne Eames) I am in love with the town of Joeville, and want to hear more about the characters who live there. No one makes you long for characters to get together, like Anne Eames. The heroine and the hero are a treasure, but I especially loved the secondary story line in this one as well. Anne is the best at making me cry for happiness. I have most of her books, and will continue to snap them up the minute they hit the store.

Professor Kinkade's work a monument to devotion and respect

The dictionary covers all the major dialects of Upper Chehalis, including Satsop, and is the definitive and exhaustive source of linguistic information on this now moribund language. The fruit of over 40 years of devoted research to a native american language and its speakers, this book continues to play a role in the ongoing cultural and spiritual revival of the Chehalis people and their associated clans. Though technical in nature and using a phonolgy just a bit daunting for the average reader, this dictionary will feed the hunger of young indigenous students who long for what was lost in the cultural transmission of their heritage. Of particular interest to the average reader is the importance of plants and animals from the rainy Chehalis valley. The vocabulary of the dictionary mirrors the daily conversation of all the folks of south west Washington, both native and non-native. The bibliography of Chehalis texts is complete, and Professor Kinkade should be congratulated for his use of all of Franz Boas' original notes, among other sources, which have been languishing in Philedelphia's American Philosophical Society Library for most of the 20th century. My favorite word from Upper Chehalis is the onomonopoedic "qwaqw" for the raven. As a child in the Satsop valley, I knew the presence of the spirits of those who had walked before. After years of searching, I now have the words for many of the sights, sounds, and thoughts of that moist, gray, green, wild world.

The Best "Boy And His Dog" Story Of All Time

How can I be the first person reviewing this item? When I was nine, I loved this old book. I read it all the time at my grandparents' house, where an aged copy resided. This should be a classic and instead looks like it's forgotten. Major-mega injustice. Valiant from the book's title is a wise, brave shepherd dog who lives and works on a Wyoming ranch with his boy and the boy's dad, who are ranchers in the late 1800's, during the time of a deadly range war between sheep and cattle ranchers. This novel is a cross between lovely pulp fiction luridness and dignified children's literature of the sort not known today, and it brings kidnapping, the wild west in all its excitement, and the love between a boy and his faithful dog, into its plotline. This is a seventy-year-old novel and I wish it would be re-printed by someone because I know children and adults today would like it every bit as much as I did almost twenty years ago and its original audience did generations back.

My Grandfather (I called him Papa ;D) wrote this book several years before he passed in 2005. I have since read it, and enjoyed the information within concerning early radio in Montana. Both radio and Montana were my Grandfather's biggest interests. I recall countless times hearing stories of him working at radio stations (something he continued to do even into his sixties) and the joy he got out of working at those stations. His knowledge of Montana was also quite extensive or should I say "Obsessive". Here, you see both his passions collide. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys radio/broadcast history or Montana history.

Copyrighted in 1995. This book is an excellant history of the men from Chouteau Co., Montana who did military service during WWII.
For most entries there is a picture of the service man, and what branch, rank, and service he did during WWII. Also most entries have a small bit of family info. This is an excellant history of that time period & of genealogy value for Chouteau Co., Montana.

Ah! back to a story with some substance to it.
Well dang! Detective Sergeant Rafe "Wolf Boy" Rawlings got what evidence he thought he needed and ran with it. The townspeople were clammering for a killer of a 27 year old murder.
Melissa Avery had hired Rafe to find the killer of her father, Charlie.
It appeared that Ethan Walker had the motive for killing Charlie. A Woman.
Mary Jo Kincaid was acting a bit suspicious in wanting Ethan proven to be the killer.
Reanne Martin was appointed as lawyer for Ethan. But she couldn't get him to talk. What was he hiding?
Reanne had left Whitehorn seven years ago and married Rafe's best friend, Andy Peyton. Learn the story between Reanne and Rafe.
Nan Avery knew more that she let on about her husband. What was she hiding?
Winona is back with her humorous and sometimes insightful little bits of advice.
Why would Ethan warn Charlie off from seeing the teenager, Lexine Baxter?
What has happened to her? She disappeared the same night as Charlie!

Peggy Brooke has created heart-warming story of a young family's struggle to get on their feet and their unswerving faith in God. Each new dilemma has the reader facing the same emotional upheval they felt. As each new problem strikes, readers hope the family can overcome it and mentally undergo the same questioning doubt the young newlyweds face. You will root for the family and feel like they are your own. This book is a must-read for anyone with a family or anyone who has ever doubted the power of faith in God.

A specialized slice of early American frontier history

Wheel Boats On The Missouri: The Journals And Documents Of The Atkinson-O'fallon Expedition 1824-1826 is an archival reference showcasing a specialized slice of early American frontier history - as reflected by the original words of the wheel boat men who were directed by President James Monroe to negotiate peace treaties with Native American tribes along the Missouri River. The resulting use of 475 infantry soldiers, "gunboat diplomacy," and man-powered wheel boats across a 3,000 mile expedition is meticulously detailed among numerous primary references. Journals dealing with daily life, navigation difficulties, American Indian cultures and political negotiations provide an amazing glimpse into army life in an America of almost two centuries past. Wheel Boats On The Missouri is an impressive work of scholarship and a strongly recommended addition to academic and community library American history reading lists and reference collections.

This is a great book! It's great for kids from fourth grade to seventh, and good for reluctant readers. When Donald and his brother Pat's father comes home, at first they are thrilled. Then Donald's father buys a home out in absolutely-middle-of-deep-space-completely-nowhere, and Donald is sad to leave his friends. He is so upset with his father; he decides to run away to California. But first he needs to save exactly ten dollars. But there's plenty of stuff to do in the meantime, and he knows he'll go as soon as he gets enough money...Or will he? This is a warm-hearted tale by Don Lemna, and be prepared for lots 'o' laughs when you read it! I highly reccomend this book.
