Montana Books

This was one of the few titles I lacked of MRR. I ordered, and it was back-ordered for so long that at one point I didn't think I'd get it at all. But I did and I'm really happy to have it. This book tells of many of the real-life adventures Mary Roberts Rinehart and her family had--back when the great Northwest really was only becoming known. She brought the cowboys, the trail drives, the friendships--and the dangers--to life wonderfully.

These are great reference maps for generalized recreational activities. Not as detailed as a topo map, but still packed full of outstanding informatin. I have one for every state and I don't leave home with out them.

This is a wonderful story of a logging family in Clinton, MT. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys tales of the past and Montana. A great pick!

Mary Burton never fails to pull the heartstrings. Nick Baron has a bad reputation. He's a man with a mission. A bounty hunter well known for his ruthless tactics.
Ellie Watson grew up in a brothel where her mother worked as a prostitute.One night, Ellie assists at the birth of a baby. She has to flee with the baby after the mother dies. The baby's father is our villain. She ends up at a remote coaching stop. Nick finds her there. Wanting to lure the villain there to exact revenge for past wrongs.
I enjoyed this quick read. Ellie is a bit tormented but it never overpowers the story. Nick is more complex. He thinks Ellie was a prostitute (she worked in the kitchen at the brothel). The baby brings out the softer side of Nick and is an integral part of the story. Do yourself a favor and pick up this emotional book by the ever wonderful Mary Burton.

This map is fantastic. Durable, easy to read, comprehensive. A must have for any serious back country enthusiasts into Glacier and Waterton.

you will cry and explore a hard reality. Shows the side of immigration that is difficult, the reason why many leave their families in sacrifice just to find limitations. Very nicely narrated.

This story is more then a legend. Tul-tok-a-na Tu-tok-a-nu-la or Tutokanula was a real person. He was an early chief of the Yosemite Indian people. He was a Yosemite-Mono Lake Paiute whose descendents are living today. Lancisco Wilson and others were his descendents. He signed the 1890 petition with other Paiutes and Indians to Congress for redress the taking of Yosemite by the government without payment. So people are reading a story about a real Paiute person. The story might have been embellished but he was still a leader of the Ahwahneechee or Ahwahnee people. One of the chiefs of the Yosemite Indians and a Yosemite-Mono Lake Paiute.

A highly recommended addition to Women's Studies, American History, and Catholic Church History reference collections and supplemental reading lists, Uncommon Women Unmarked Trails: The Courageous Journey Of Catholic Missionary Sisters In Frontier Montana is the amazing but true story of Catholic nuns who helped settle the American west in general, and the frontier territory of Montana in particular. From the Sisters of Providence, who built convents, hospitals, and schools to serve Native Americans; to the St. Ignatius Mission which was founded by four French-speaking nuns in 1864; to the Ursuline nuns who arrived in 1884, Uncommon Women Unmarked Trails is an enjoyable and fascinating coverage of an overlooked side of taming the Old West.

I like it, but one thing puzzles me: why doesn't Amazon continue to sell it in the paper edition? It'a POD, but Amazon owns the company that prints it, so that can't very well be a problem. Oh, well, it's probably completely fascinating in the Kindle edition as well as in print, and maybe Kindle isn't selling well enough for Amazon to want competing forms to show up on their website?
