Montana Books

I live in Montana, and am very active, love to rock climb and hike. This book is pretty idiot proof, and easy to follow. It even rates the climbs so you can climb only at your skill level.

Mr. Custer tells a very bare bones version of his great-great uncle's life. It is startling how much is cleared away when only basic facts are discussed. The author cuts through hype, politics, revisionism, and decades of venomous build up to paint a simple, sympathetic view of Custer's life and death. He makes a compelling case against those who have crucified the general for fun and profit, not to mention political and social motives. I liked this cleaned up story.

The English translation of this monumental volume is titled "She Went in Haste to the Mountain." If you read no other book on Garabandal, you have to read this one! In either English or Spanish it is the most heavily-researched, and well documented account of the events ever written. I'm so grateful to God for letting meet Father Eusebio Pesquera when I was in Garabandal (shortly before he died), and he signed my Spanish translation. This priest was a living Saint, and Garabandal was his whole life, and he proves it by the meticulous research and solid, yet beautiful narrative that is unlike any other book on the subject. This book is an absolute TREASURE!

My daughter just loved the book, she keeps going back for more. Good clean reading for your little one.

"Selby's Sins" will capture, and hold, your attention from cover to cover. Montana beautifully embodies the sultry power of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. Her characterization signifies the epitome of the human spirit. The characters in "Selby's Sins" are real; humorous in one chapter, heart-wrenching in the next. I caught myself gasping out loud in disbelief, feeling sorrow for the family's hardships, and feeling exultant with the absolutely perfect ending. This fantastic book from a brilliant new author deserves to be read in one sitting!

I first heard the story of Shep while on a motorcycle trip through MT in 2004. A little old man in a bar told me of Fort Benton and the Shep memorial. He told me the story of Shep the loyal sheep dog who's owner had died but Shep faithfully waited each day by the train station in hopes that he would return. The local people in town wanted to take Shep in but he stayed. They fed and took care of him as much as they could until one day, Shep passed. I had to see it for myself and headed to Fort Benton. I couldn't believe it two years later when I saw a book w/the same title and wondered if it could be the "Shep" I had heard of. I was so excited when it was and his memory is in print forever. I gave away my copy already at a friend's baby shower and have to pick up another.

Dusty McCall was no exception. She was trying her darndest to attract the attention of Boone Rasmussen. Just because he appeared to be dark and dangerous.

There were problems building at the home ranch with Asa and Shelby - he had to tell his children the mistakes he had commited and endangered the Sundown Ranch. Yet strangely enough, the man who had been feuding with him, Mason VanHorn helped put Asa's mind at rest.

Check out Letty Arnold, Dusty's best friend and the investigator Letty hired, Hal Branson. Oh, Oh, don't forget Lamar Nichols, Boone's half brother, who was a danger to all.

DEFINITELY RECOMMENDED - a decent conclusion to the McCall's Saga

For the record, "Sinkin Spells, Hot Flashes, Fits and Cravins" is the original title for "White Trash Cooking II". They are one and the same. Whatever you do, regardless of the title you buy it under --- DO BUY IT!

I have the original "White Trash Cooking" and this is more of the same. Anyone can cook like this and you don't need all those expensive, fancy herbs and spices. In fact, you don't need much more than salt and pepper. I sit and read these cookbooks like novels. They remind me of my simple roots and I feel like these people are my people. These books are portals to honest and simple times, people and food.

The author recollects that as a boy growing up in the Bitterroot Valley near Hamilton, Montana he dreamed of being a pilot. After becoming a fighter pilot in WW II he returns home to pursue a flying career in the valley he loves. This book is a history of aviation in Western Montana with accounts of pilots, planes, mountain men and others. Chok full of pictures, this book is nicely put together.

"Solid Ground" is such a great way to start the day. Pastor Mark Finley's stories and illustrations from the Bible are an inspiration. I received this as a gift, and am so glad I did!
