Carey Hall is the doctor who is taking care of that little girl. Jennifer McCallum needs a bone marrow transplant, and a relative who can help. Unfortunately, her illegitament half-brother doesn't match on all counts. Carey is getting desperate, and when JD volunteers to be tested, she reluctently agrees. JD decides if his test comes out positive, he'll tell everyone who he really is.
This sets off a series of events that'll keep you reading until the very last page. This book is definentely a keeper. Laurie Paige has done it again.

#4 of McCalls' Montana [5] WOW! what a mystery --
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2008-01-08
The characters still hold a high interest plot.
There is a twenty year old murder mystery to be solved.
The "Murder" was commited at Brookside Sanitorium that has been closed for the past 20 years. Room 9B is still just as spooky now as then.

Anna Austin is looking for answers to the mystery of her mother's disappearance into Brookside and the lose of her child. Who did her mother have an affair with? Who was the father of the "stillborn" child?

Brandon McCall was hired by Mason VanHorn's new foreman, Red Hudson to do night guard duty. Someone was vandalizing his coalbed methane gas wells.
He hopes to be the one to catch the perp.

Boy was he in for a surprise. He gets the chance to follow the dark shadow into the VanHorn ranch house and gets clobbered for his pains.
He drags himself to Dr. Porter Ivers clinic to get some stitches.
Ivers is a grouchy old man - his daughter,Taylor, now a doctor has come to Antelope Flats to help out.

Lenore Johnson has disappeared - she is a private investigator and knew what she was getting into [almost].
Emma Ingles turns up dead - she was a night security guard at Brookside but something spooked her.

Dr. Niles French and Mason VanHorn seem to have a couple of dark secrets that they shared. Mason usually has some "dirt" on most of the people that he deals with just to keep them in line.

Brandon finally finds out what the big feud is that caused "bad blood" between the VanHorns and the McCalls [although the explanation is a bit passed over].

Sheriff Cash McCall is trying to find the connection between the 20 year old murder and the more recent ones and just about gets taken out.

Brandon does not forsee a future for him and Anna no matter how much he wants her. He remembers the cherry popsicle.

This has been the mostest mystery and in book #4 - WoW! All of the books holds your interest as far as the stories are concerned but Brandon's story [so far] really tops them all. Although the time frames of the characters - brothers - don't coincide. Brandon is 33 - that make it 3 years later from the first book. Rourke's baby should already have been born. Oh Well!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED --m -- Coming up now is Dusty's story with Ty Coltrane - strange, now she is jumping from 19 to 21?

A definite must-have for planning a backpack in Glacier!!!
Helpful Votes: 10 out of 10 total.
Review Date: 1998-12-01
I used this book to help plan a backpacking vacation in Glacier National Park during summer 1998. I was very satisfied with the information and descriptions provided by Mr. Molvar. As I knew little about the park beforehand, planning this trip would have been nearly impossible without this book. Contains text, simple maps, elevation gain/loss charts, backcountry campground info and ratings, advice, warnings, etc. I can not say enough good things about this guidebook!

Mort Arkava's "Hiking the Bitterroots" is a definite winner with "rec heads" locally and otherwise.

His book leads you to the trailheads of the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness of Montana and Idaho with it's pristine forests, rushing creeks, alpine meadows and towering peaks.

Each of the 41 hikes varies in length as well as endurance. Each hike's description is accurate as well as descriptive and detailed. Mort provides you with trailhead directions, trail descriptions and sketch maps. You know that Arkava has hiked every trail more than once.

He has made it easy for beginners and experts alike to get out there and explore. So let's go! Let's get out there! And don't forget your moleskin, your extra pair of socks and of course, "Hiking the Bitterroots" by Mort Arkava.

His Very Silence Speaks: Comanche the Horse Who Survived
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2007-09-19
A wonderful accounting of the life of Comanche, the only horse to survive the battle at the Little Big Horn, and not be taken captive by the native Americans. Comanche became the mascot for the US Cavalry and lived to a ripe old age.

A must read for any fans of General George Armstrong Custer, Captain Myles Keog or the Battle at the Little Big Horn, or anyone who loves true horse stories.

Tough times, tough land, and tough people
Helpful Votes: 13 out of 13 total.
Review Date: 1998-06-15
In a simple, straightforward style Percy Wollaston relates a memoir of his youth and his family's attempt to wrest a livelihood by dryland farming on Montana's eastern plains in the 1920s & 1930s. Their experience was heartbreaking, but there was nothing pitiful about these resilient people. What a treasure Wollaston left his descendants and all of us who want to hear a first-person account of that era! It's easy to see why the British writer, Jonathan Raban, was so taken with Wollaston's story. Wonderful!

An absorbing visual presentation of black-and-white images
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.
Review Date: 2003-08-09
Compiled from archives of photographs taken by Arthur Rothstein, Russell Lee, John Vachon, and Marion Post Wolcott (four of the United States' best-known photographs from the Depression era), Hope In Hard Times: New Deal Photographs Of Montana 1936-1942 is an absorbing visual presentation of black-and-white images that add a personal touch to the events of history, as the state of Montana and indeed the nation of America struggled to lift itself out of economic collapse. The extensive text provides an informed and informative commentary which provides an invaluable context and rounds out the memorable pictures creating a vivid total presentation. Hope In Hard Times is a welcome and highly recommended contribution to academic and community library 20th Century American History reference collections and reading lists.
