terrific environmental vs. development tale
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2005-07-15
When a Tainer, Skelton, and Goldstein lawyer was unable to attend a public hearing the firm sends Molly Ferguson. Her job is for the most part is to remain silent, but if needed sell how much the mining will mean for the community. Molly calls her boyfriend to break a date because she will be at the hearing at Moose Horn, Montana adult population 27.

The attorney for the Native Americans, who oppose the mining of their mountain, Steven Young Bear gives a lift to a stranded Molly. At the meeting site, he scoffs at the claims of Ken Manning from the mining company. Though very attracted to one another, Molly and Steven are on opposite sides of the issue as she emphasizes jobs and he points out heritage.

This is a terrific environmental vs. development tale starring two ethical attorneys (and this is not a fantasy) falling in love but differing on what is best for the locals. The story line is at its best when the disagreeing dynamic duo dispute with one another. Though an intrigue involving questionable deaths add suspense and enables the lead couple to meet, that subplot seems unneeded as Nadia Nichols packs her contemporary tale with plenty of super romance within a complex keenly developed societal issue.

A beautiful little book about baseball in the days before money mattered, and life in the rural Northwest. Reading it was like watching Twin Peaks with fewer dead bodies and more baseball.

After her father's sudden death, lovely strong-willed Amanda Lenox had no money for the long trip from Boston where she attended Miss Henry's Academy for Young Ladies to her inherited ranch in Seattle. When she saw an advertisement for a "wilderness expert" for an escort to Pony, Montana, she immediately applied. She soon discovered the escorted will be the wealthy eleven-year-old brat, Roger Bannister III. Having no wilderness experience or sense of direction what so ever, the two became lost in the wild beauty of Idaho where she severely sprained her ankle. Thankfully, ruggedly handsome half-breed Crow Indian, Jacob Blackhawk Chandler, rescues Amanda. Witty barbs as well as sexual sparks immediately started to fly between them! All of a sudden Roger deathly screams and he mysteriously disappears deep within the woods. Jacob agrees to help Amanda locate him and escort them to Montana for a ridiculously excessive fee.

While Amanda and Jacob are searching for Roger and his kidnappers, Amanda slowly acknowledges her growing desire for Jacob. Jacob, carrying severe emotional and physical scars as well as suffering from life-long racial prejudice, is having a hard time denying his smoldering attraction for her. He feels no respectable white women would ever consider loving a "breed" and Jacob will not subject the beautiful Amanda to a tortured life that would bring, despite Amanda's words of complete love and devotion. Through many trials and tribulations they finally succumb to their sensual cravings...and upon the kidnappers.

After the life-and-death rescue skirmish, Roger is returned to his father and Amanda pays Jacob his well-earned fee and they go their separate ways. Amanda sadly realizes Jacob is permanently out of her life and that she must somehow make it to Seattle and try to begin anew. Jacob now knows he cannot live without his precious Amanda and sets out to find her and profess his undying love despite having devastatingly rejected her. He realizes he must face his fear that she may now feel that loving a "breed" might not be worth the lifelong pain of discrimination regardless of their untamed passion.

What a book! It was the best $.99 I spent in a long time! It's full of explicit sensual desire and heart pumping adventure that will definitely provoke your emotions.

I highly recommend this book!

What is special about this book is the quality of the photographs and the insightful captions that explain some ecological nuances of the flowers.

Ms. Blank's photographs are wonderfully composed, executed and reproduced.

I really enjoy perusing this book. I only wish there was more of it!

A great preview of "The Bob". Very good, concise information in a very readable format. I especially liked the sections on wildlife and history. Makes you want to go to Montana tomorrow and see the country, even if it is January and you hate snow. I can hardly wait for the summer and a visit to the wild country of "The Bob".

Montana's markers
Helpful Votes: 5 out of 5 total.
Review Date: 2005-05-09
173 roadside markers are described in this book, arranged by section of the state. How many times have you been driving along a road when suddenly a historical marker appears along the side and there is no way to stop and read it? Books like this eliminate the frustration of passing those markers by. And from the amount of text on Montana's signs, it is much more convenient reading it from a book than from the sign itself. There is also a thorough index and a useful bibliography included. The book would be interesting to armchair travelers, too. A convenient way for travelers to learn Montana's history.

This is a well-written account of the Montana Vigilantes.

This account of the Vigilantes of Bannack and Virginia City is well documented and verifies, or, is verified by, Dimsdale's account of the vigilantes. My great-grandfather, Bob Dempsey, was a citizen of Bannack and had a ranch between Bannack and Virginia City. He was not involved with the members of Plummer's gang but somewhat on the fringe of things. My grandfather James Dempsey married Ellen LeCompte in Virginia City. Williams was the leader of the vigilantes but did not want his name used in the Dimsdale account. This account is accurate and can be verified by historical records available. Vi
