A "MUST READ" if you were raised in Christian School!

This is one of two books by the same auther...this being the first. You start out with a young boy named Terry...who grows up in a poor but loving Christian family. What this boy doesn't get into! :) It transitions nicely into the second book where Terry is now a teen ready to graduate. I feel like I could have written this book myself after reading some of the "goings on" in the Christian School he attended! It brought back memories...and was most enjoyable to read. You also fly through the pages as its so "easy reading".

Don't miss out on a true gem of a book!

This is a fast-paced novel with quirky, amusing characters who get into one predicament after another as they try to stop a terrorist with a fondness for weapons of mass destruction. The story plays out against the vast landscape of the American West, moving from the Dakotas to Montana to St. Louis as Robert Botkin and his Indian friend unravel a mystery that threatens half the population of the nation's heartland. The author's understanding of the West and its people give this book an unusual degree of plausibility. The novel does contain a large amount of R-rated language and several graphic scenes that are not suitable for young readers.

If you liked Lilly, you'll love Emma! It's a wonderful book full of history. I've never been much for history until I started reading Ann Cullen's books . . . now I'm anxiously waiting for her next one. Living in Helena, it makes the town seem more "real" . . . you see houses and know who built them and first lived there. For those not living here, the book gives you a wonderful insight into the past. How lives were lived, companies started, travel, buildings, etc.

Grover Hudson and Blackwell Publishers are to be congratulated for producing Essential Introductory Linguistics. Of the (too) numerous introductory texts on linguistics, Hudson's ranks number one. It is clear. It is concise and to-the-point. It has wonderful examples and useful exercises from a wide range of languages, with an appropriate bias towards English based on its primary audience of English-speaking university students.

One minor quibble: there is no glossary.

An extraordinary multicultural journey
Helpful Votes: 4 out of 4 total.
Review Date: 2000-12-08
In "Faith Ringgold," author Robyn Montana Turner has assembled a superb introduction to the artist for whom the book is named. Turner combines a well-written biography of Ringgold with a wealth of photographs from all phases of the artist's life, full-color reproductions of many of her classic creations, and other interesting materials.

An African-American artist who blends African, African-American, and European themes and techniques in her work, Ringgold is a fascinating multicultural creator. This book gives the reader a good sense of the journey she has taken towards her comprehensive artistic vision. It is fascinating, for example, to see a reproduction of da Vinci's "Mona Lisa" together with Ringgold's mixed-media portrayal of African-American children dancing in front of "Mona Lisa" at the Louvre museum in France. Turner's "Faith Ringgold" is a visually stunning book which just may inspire a few artists of the next generation.

Dempsey has done an outstanding job of pulling together Native and non-Native viewpoints of the Whiskey trade in Montana and the Canadian Prairie Provinces. This is one of the best overall historical studies of the trade and its effects on the Native people, the Northern Plains, and politics in both the U.S. and Canada. With strong backgrounds of those involved in the trade, and specific events concerning those traders, and the Native people on an individual and tribal basis, it makes for an interesting read.
I strongly recommend it for those interested in the development of the Northern Plains!
