Captivating and tempestuous tale of one womanýs dream!Review Date: 2004-06-29
Beautiful and strong-willed Haley Winthrop has a dream of marriage, family and to finally have the peace of mind of belonging somewhere. Abandoned at birth, Haley grew up in a Chicago orphanage and was no stranger to hard work and loneliness, so when she answered an ad to be a mail-order bride in remote Montana, she knew her dream was within her grasp. From just one brief letter, the intended groom, Lucas Stoner, sent for her. Surely, he's everything wonderful and perfectly agreeable and their life together will be long and filled with happiness!
Nearing the end of her tiring journey through the beautiful Montana wilderness, the stage was held up by a lone bandit, but this bandit did not want money or jewels, he wanted Haley. Handsome rancher, Jesse Kincaid, vowed to bring down the evil and greedy Lucas Stoner, the man who had his father killed and what better way to begin than by kidnapping his bride-to-be. Intimidation, deception and murder is not beyond Lucas's determination to get what he wants and the fact that Haley is an orphan is just the tactic he needs towards reaching his malicious goals; never mind caring about her.
While being a hostage, Haley realized her experience of being a captive was nothing like she expected. Jesse's notion of being a kidnapper was nothing like he anticipated. She surprisingly takes pleasure in being his prisoner and he began to enjoy being her kidnapper.
Will their long quest that's filled with danger, intrigue and deception eventually bring them together to find eventual peace and happiness where dreams come true?
This is an easy-to-read and wonderful addition to the Montana Mavericks series; guaranteed not to disappoint!

#3 of The McCalls' Montana - A Most Excellent readReview Date: 2008-01-06
The sheriff has been under the cloud of suspecion for the past seven years because of the disappearance of his supposed fiancee, Jasmine Wolfe.
Jasmine Wolfe was an heiress who got what she wanted and she didn't care who she hurt. She had wanted Cash McCall which eventually lead to a heated confrontation with about four different people.
Suddenly Cash is confronted by Molly Kilpatrick who looks so like Jasmine that he thought Jasmine had finally returned. Her return would solve a few of his problems.
Molly had a few secrets of her own and was afraid that the sheriff would discover a couple of them before she could take off again. She needed the cover of Jasmine and the sheriff to throw Vince and Angel off her trail.
I really liked the way the story cut back and forth between the characters to unravel the thickening plot and tie them all together.
We meet up with Shelby McCall again as a protective mother. Where had she been when her children needed her? And Dusty is still having problems with her mother.
We meet up with FBI agent John Matthews who turns out to be a very decent guy in dealing with Cash. John was not happy with Cash when he finally ran into Molly.
This whole series is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED [although the bed tumbling is still kind of dumb. Like it is squezzed in to satify the editor.]
Up next is Brandon's story #4 HIGH-CALIBER COWBOY [I havn't tired of the stories like some other trilogys] Don't miss this one.

An Excellent Compendium of American ThoughtReview Date: 2002-12-31
Volume I logically starts with the Pilgrims and ends with the Civil War and is divided neatly into component chapters with contributions from John Winthrop, Anne Hutchinson, Roger Williams, Cotton Mather, Jonathan Edwards ("Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" is just breathtaking...), Ben Franklin, Thomas Paine, Alexander Hamilton, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams (the founding fathers section), on through Henry David Thoreau and Ralph Waldo Emerson (Transcendentalism), to Margaret Fuller and Elizabeth Palmer Peabody to John C. Calhoun, George Fitzhugh, Martin Delaney, Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln.
The editors provide a small biographical sketch of each author that precedes the selection and the selections track a wide range of issues including race relations, relations between the North and the South, the enfranchisement of women, American exceptionalism (Winthrop's "City on a Hill"), the formation of the United States, transcendentalism (the seedling for America's first original philosophy, Pragmatism). These issues are picked up later and expanded (or concluded) in Volume II of the work.

ANOTHER JEWEL OF THE WESTERN HISTORICAL!Review Date: 2008-02-29
Then out of the blue, Quin McAllister receives a letter asking him to come to the Montana Territory, 1867. He arrives in a blizzard on his horse, Cutter to find Cassie Montgomery and her mother Luella Chalmers and her two daughters, Rebecca, 12 and Jennifer,5 all alone. Ethen was nowhere to be found.
Cassie is wary and Luella considers Quin a footloose, gambling rogue and wants nothing to do with him. They serve him a hot meal of beans and biscuits. He hung around to help out and then Cyrus Stoner shows up with his men and threatens Cassie and her children. Stoner wants her land, now.
He gives Cassie a day to pack up and leave - she refuses and Stoner has his men kill their milk cow. Cassie is also very surprised at the patience and attention that Quin gives to her girls.
It takes Quin a bit of time during the snow storms to realize that he has been half in love with Cassie before he ever met her. Cassie can't believe that Ethan sent for Quin without telling her.
Quin hangs around and helps Cassie make friends with the People that live in the hills. They also take care of any of Stoner's men that show up on her property.
The search for Ethan's treasure and spending time with Cassie awaken Quin to the pull of love [besides lust].
It is a well rounded story with no dragging parts to it - the characters have depth to them - as to the complicated romance, well it works very well - the danger was played down a bit, but there - it is an excellent story even though written in 94 - well worth reading [and a keeper].
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED --M -- life as it might have been.

"How many times have you seen tracks ahead of you on a beach, muddy forest trail or across a blanket of snow, and wondered what creature made them? This handy, pocket-sized guide helps you name the track maker, with life-size drawings of the animal's or bird's characteristic footprints. Just check for size with the ruler (left), then hold the book beside the mystery imprint and fine the drawing that looks most like it, for a quick identification. Includes 40 to 50 different animals and many birds most common the Rocky Mountains, with information on size, sounds, habitat, diet and patterns of movement."

A Remarkable, Amazing AutobiographyReview Date: 2000-06-23
This is a wonderful story of a life lived to its fullest. From sunshine and green grass, parties and marriage, to heartbreak and loss. This book really is a jem.
It is 142 pages, in decently large type, with many black and white pictures. It is an easy, exciting read and I reccomend it to anybody. This book is a MUST for anyone of Norwegian or Scandinavian heritage. Read "Anna: Norse roots in homestead soil", you will enjoy it.
