As a mother of two kids under 10 yeard old as well as a newcommer to the Baltimore area, I found this book extremely helpful in finding things to do with my kids. The book is laid out wonderfully. It seaperates activitie into seasons which I found extremely helpful. It also let you in on some "inside secret" place to take your kids that cost little or no money. Each activity and place had excellent directions, hours of openings,Phone numbers to get addional information as well as admission costs. I had borrowed this book from a friend and found it so helpful that I bought my own copy! A super and must have resouce good for anyone with children new or old to Baltimore!

This is one of those book which is easily recognised as a product of supreme quality and that quality comes from the detailed information found within.
The destroyers of the United States of America during WW2 bore the brunt of many a battle as they placed themselves between the enemy and the much larger capital ships their very existence demanded they protect - because that was their role. To include the details of all US destroyer operations of WW2 in one book is an immense undertaking.
I purchased this book because I was researching the loss of a small number of specific ships with the USS Aaron Ward being one. Just as soon as the book arrived, therefore, I went straight to that name. I was previously unaware that the first USS Aaron was one of several four-funnelled US Destroyers sold to the Royal Navy and renamed - in her case, HMS Castleton. Another was USS Buchanan which became HMS Campbeltown and was used to ram the dock gates at St Nazaire with devastating effect. My point being, all the information is here.
The book begins with a brief history of the US destroyer which is quickly followed by a description of this type of vessel in 1938. Various deck guns and deck-mounted torpedo tubes and their operating mechanisms are all explained. Then there is an overview of the 8 classes of WW2 destroyer and a cutaway diagram of a typical ship.
So far we are only at page 26 and the next 500 pages carry a narrative, assessment and appreciation of all US destroyer operations throughout the second world war. This coverage of such a vast subject is as complete as one could hope to find.
Appendices include details of all losses, Presidential Unit Citations, Navy Unit Commendations, the composition of different fleets (i.e. which ship was serving where), which ships were transferred to the Royal Navy and Free French Navy, the names of new ships added during WW2 and which ships were converted to other duties. Completed with a 27 page index, I am confident that the reader will quickly find anything of particular interest.
Altogether a full and comprehensive coverage of a most complex subject and an excellent addition to my own private library.

So, where do you want to spend the next four years of YOUR life? This book is both inspirational and motivational, as it will inspire its readers to become a "Terp" for a moment, minute, or even an hour, and motivate those who are seriously considering one of the best schools in the United States to actually visit University of Maryland's College Park campus. This is clearly one of the best resources out there available to those students who have had even the slightest thought of attending UM. Have you ever asked yourself, "Would I consider going to Maryland?" If so, get your hands on a copy of this book. It will immediately influence your decision and make you either begin to fall in love with the campus, introduce you to a pretty cool school that you may or may not consider in the future, or allow you to quickly consider your other options.
Additionally, it's also an excellent "down-to-earth" guide for supportive families, counselors, mentors, and friends who care about the students in their lives. Wouldn't any loving person who is concerned about a student's well being want to know what this delightful University is all about and share that information with the student? Get this: the guide is an even better resource for those that actually decide to attend UMCP in the future as well as every single student currently enrolled. (This includes those resourceful and trained Resident Assistants! Yes, the book is that good, and a great complementary guide to the R.A. Manual.) Last but not least, this book also makes a thoughtful gift to anyone affiliated with the University, its campus, and the College Park area.
Please Note: while the book is well written, witty, and quite an enjoyable read, it is the most entertaining College Prowler guide in the series. It's a funny, informational book that will play a role in affecting the rest of one's life and pays for itself given the amount of time, effort, and resources it saves by being a truly informational, lifelong companion. As long as it's with the reader, it will never go to waste - even after graduation.

This is a terrific book on the University - the photographs
are nothing short of amazing. Mr. Adelman is to be con
gratulated on his execution of this idea. Everyone who has
attended this school should own this book - it will bring back
fond memories. I hope we can look for more volumes on
other schools.

When I lived in Maryland, I loved reading Dee Hardie's columns about country life, keeping up a historic home, and the glimpses into her family life. I looked forward to her comments on everything from learning to tap dance or keeping closets tidy. She just had a gracious way about her. Many of her columns were saved for reading again later.
I'm glad to see this book that gathers her columns and will replace my yellowing clippings. It will be a treat to renew my acquaintance with her life and outlook after all these years.

I have lived in the Washington area for many years and unfortunately lived through many job searches. This is more than a book -- it is a thorough compilation, up-to-date resource, and insightful guide to virtually everything about the Washington job market. In size as well as content, it is far beyond any of the other books on D.C. jobs out today. It helped me land my current job and I will most certainly turn to it when and if I ever need to look for another

Water's Way is a stunningly photographed, and exquisitely written glimpse of life in the Chesapeake region. The book celebrates beauty, both in the natural and human worlds. Author Tom Horton's essays are insightful, humorous, and well-crafted. His words flow like the many creeks and rivers that he describes on the Delmarva peninsula. Dave Harp's photography defines the people, animals, and landscape in such concert with Horton's words that the book should be considered the National Geographic of the Eastern Shore. This a worthy addition to anyone's coffee table.
