This book is like the Parent Trap, except with more twists and turns and excitement. When Pam and Penny Kellyhorn meet at the Country Fair they realize at once that they are twins. Once met they can't get apart, and the pair soon sparks a chain of events that includes two marriages, an arsonist, and the circus in Florida. Try this book and I promise you will be reading it again and again!

Poetry flies beyond the facts of history to touch the mystery within. The poems of Christine Stewart-Nu*ez clearly have been born of the meeting of her own spirit with the story of Catherine of Siena. Catherine, I think, would be pleased.
***Suzanne Noffke, OP, translator of the works of
Catherine of Siena
Christine Stewart-Nunez's poems about Catherine of Siena are stunning, brave, and original, taking on one of religion and history's most loved yet, to my mind, least understood figures, bringing her to life on the page, giving her voice and making her human. The poems are full of the sensual delights of body and as well as the weight of the soul, each poem deftly wrought to reveal a world both real and transcendent. The Love of Unreal Things is a work that will change your life.

This is a phenomenal book that I couldn't recommend more. We all watch the Simpsons, and we all know it is a highly political show, but how much thought have you really given it? Well this book does a superb job of identifying and analyzing the political messages within the show.

First off, I'm one of the "Nouveau Mainers" Elizabeth Peavey mentions in this collection of her essays. She is correct when she writes that most transplants to Maine embrace the state with a passion, and that many native Maine-ahs (as with most people anywhere, for that matter) will often overlook some amazing things to be found in their own back yard.
I appreciated Elizabeth Peavey's desire to reconnect with a place she had once wanted to leave and to discover new things, starting from scratch in some respects.
I remember reading a few of her stories in Down East Magazine and when I saw this compilation of her work at a book store in Bangor I picked it up right away. I enjoy her sprightly, inquisitive writing style and the stories in this collection are always interesting, often amusing, and also very concise, so regrettably a reader will breeze through this book rather quickly.
This book may invoke a serious case of wanderlust among readers, and perhaps I shouldn't have read it in March when cabin fever is at an all time high!
I enjoyed "Maine And Me" and I look forward to reading more of Elizabeth Peavey's adventures of discovery in the Pine Tree State.

Great book. I have been traveling to Maine for vacations for years, and this guide still provided me with great new travel tips for areas I thought I knew well. I am returning to Maine again this summer, and will be using this book as my primary reference.

Maine is one of my favorite vacation spots. Bar Harbor, Acadia State Park, etc. But Maine is more than just its beautiful resorts and delicious lobster. And this little volume will tell you and your students all about it.
The "Portrait of America" series is a terrific introduction for pre-teens to the 50 states and to the places and events that shaped the history of the United States. This "Maine" installment is particularly good. The book is broken down into sections like "History", "Culture", "Economy" etc., and each section is thoughtfully written and edited. The "Culture" section is especially good and is very inclusive.
This book, as well as the entire "Portrait of America" series, will prove to be a valuable teaching tool to all primary school educators.

This is an excellent book on the amphibians, turtles, and reptiles of Maine. Great text, detailed maps, good photographs, up-to-date taxonomy, and adheres to standardized common names. An authoritative and easily-used guide that will serve well both North American herpetologists and the citizens of Maine. Highly recommended.
