This is the most palatable book of history you will find. It's not just a text book with names, dates, and places. That is there, but,the author uses his skills of storytelling, scholorship, creativity,as well as his vast knowledge of the area, and extensive experience sailing along the New England Coast, to painlessly educate, inform, and actually make you feel as if you were right there as Maines maratime history unfolds. You will be taken from Mains earliest "discovery", to present day Maine. You will experience early European sailors and settelers, coastal natives, there interactions. Modern day commercial shipbuilding, past and present fisheries problems, small yacht builders using various building methods, tourism, etc. It's all covered, and done at a pace that keeps you completly interested and wanting to keep turning pages. You will find your self having a most enjoyable time with this book.

Not only does this gem contain many wonderful recipies, it also has fun facts about NE sprinkled around the pages. Many recipies include cranberries, squash and seafood found in New England. It's spiral-bound and easily cleaned off it something splashes on it. I've made recipies from here (especially the stuffing) to rave reviews. I've also given it as a shower gift.

I don't know why this document is on Amazon because it was not produced for sale. However, I want to publicly state that I, Toni Seger, am the author and not Jim Wilfong. I was hired, by Jim Wilfong, to write this plan in 1993. AND, Jim didn't write a word of "Taking Your Business Global" either!

Worthwhile contribution to Civil War and New York City history!

This is a very interesting primary source for people curious about the role New York City played in the Civil War. With interest in the rich military history of Governors Island on the rise, the fact that Edward Drummond was imprisoned in Castle Williams should hopefully draw readers to this book. The book is a testimony to the fact that POWs were treated in a reasonably humane manner early in the war when exchanges were still possible. The editor examines some of the theories about the crass attitude of the higher-ups which led to the development of what eventually amounted to death camps like Andersonville. The book also captures the brother vs. brother nature of the Civil War that accounts for much of the sentimental attachment to its study. The editor, curator of the Military History Institute at Carlisle, PA, knows how to tie primary sources together. This book is an example of why it's so important to preserve journals and correspondence that have historical value. It's to the credit of southerners that they have a tradition of this kind of preservation.

Short stories about life in Maine, both old-timers and those just visiting Maine (or from away). Well written and engaging. My favorites are, of course, those listed in the publishers' reviews as "other local writers"; Monica Wood, Cathie Pelletier, Lily King, Bill Roorbach, etc. Includes glimpses of Maine during the "other" ten months.

A singularly fascinating biography of a shrewd, powerful, charismatic politician

Written by prize-winning historian and former Maine politician Neil Rolde, Continental Liar From the State of Maine: James G. Blaine is the true story of the American presidential campaign of 1884, the so-called "dirtiest campaign in American history", when Republican James G. Blaine came within 1,047 votes of becoming president. Yet his career, as spectacular as any of the "Gilded Age", did not end there; he served twice as U.S. secretary of state, became a Speaker of the House of Congress, and a U.S. senator for his adopted state of Maine. Credited with initiating America's progression down the path to acting like a world power, Blaine's unofficial nicknames ranged from "The Plumed Knight" to "Slippery Jim" to "The Continental Liar from the State of Maine." A singularly fascinating biography of a shrewd, powerful, charismatic politician who dominated the American stage from just before the Civil War to nearly the turn of the century, Continental Liar From the State of Maine is a fascinating read from cover to cover, offering insights into political leadership, scandal, and backdoor dealing that are as applicable today as they were over a hundred years ago.

Hey All,
I saw this chance to let everyone know how wonderfull this book is.I haven't recieved this copy yet,but i have owned this book before.,some how with all my moving it got lost or taken which disheartened me greatly.I not only have been in this restaurant,i have also worked in it.The restaurant,is no long and hasn't been since the late 70's in Camden. It was a sad day when it closed, for Camden. It was extremely and clearly the most popular in the area and still missed greatly.Yorkies was a family run restaurant of which every member was warm and wonderful, which reflected in their cooking and restaurant. It is most definately a very fond memory of Camden Maine's part of history, and fondly remembered. This cookbook is a collection of Betty's most popular recipes,of home cooking, used in the restaurant.I am so exstatic that i have been able to locate this copy, and able to have it back in my kitchen. If you have a chance to get this book i recommend it HIGHLY.The recipes are fabulous!!!!!!!
Easy to follow recipes of home cooking that would satisfy you, your family, and guests.

This is a wonderful book for anyone starting out wanting to learn the basics in everyday cooking. This book was written in the 60's when there was not much emphasis on making cooking healthier, however, it is easy to cut down on the salt proportions and substitute healthier fats. IE: Fish chowder is excellent with a combination of butter and olive oil for sauteeing instead of the traditional fried pork scraps.
