With so much disinformation regarding nontraditional schools offering higher degrees, it's comforting to read a book based in both reality and calmness. No high sales pitch here, just good advice regarding a lot of good, nontraditional schools and programs. Highly recommended.

This book is a must if you are a counselor or an aspiring student. Do not waste hours googling the net, just buy this book, it is worth the investment. I am considering going back to school for a second career and this book is helping me find the sites that I need to visit. I am not wasting valuable time searching for those sites. I especially like the Quick Guide at the start of the book because it is sorted by subject and my interests are varied.

The book is also comprehensive, from financial aid to professional associations. There is even information about campus security and safety! And because it is a guide to web sites, the information gained through this book will always be up to date.

The book is well organized and gets you to your destination quickly. It starts with the Quick Guide to Resources which you will use to find the site you're looking for and then you look it up in the guide which starts at page 35. The guide lists the name and web address of the site, gives a short description and evaluates the 'Best Points' about it. The 'What You Should Know' section gives additional information such as if access is restricted to registered users or if the site is fee-based.

The book also lists Web Resources for professional and counselor associations and organizations.

The glossary is extensive and the Career Title Index is extremely valuable to me. The Web Site Index makes it very simple to find a listing when you just want to read their review of a paticular site.

When I am done with my copy I am giving it to my neighbor's daughter who is finishing high school.

Nearly three hundred original college lists, all compiled by the staff of The Princeton Review, lists almost any criteria a college applicant or parent might find important, from outstanding academic programs by major to schools with the highest percentages of students receiving financial aid, academic opportunities outside the classroom, and more. Any collection, whether it be high school or public lending library, catering to college-bound patrons needs this.

Whoa! I really don't agree with that lone review (currently). I wonder if the person even read the book? Helping people is not right wing, only left wing? There are a myriad of community service projects that these colleges support and finance. This book is very thorough in giving many examples of the types of projects and support available. Here are a few off-hand. Preparing meals and giving them to poor people, teaching children, helping with voter registration, fixing environmental toxicity in village's water supply, building houses in Honduras during spring break.

Mapsco is the true authority when it comes to making maps for Texas cities. Just like the Dallas County edition (which has been published for fifty years), this guide maps the whole area- even the smallest streets, with two types of maps: an overview one, and another that is detailed. There's also a section with maps of sporting and arts venues in the DFW area, the airport, ISD boundaries, and zip codes. Considering the rapid growth in Plano and Frisco (400%! ), they are very up to date. Any driver needs this in the Dallas area!

Guide To Musicals is an in-depth history of nearly 200 musicians selects productions from late 19th century works to Mel Brooks' The Producers. Each entry lists composer, lyricist, and major performances. Guide To Musicals is a strongly recommended pick for followers of musicals who want background data and recommended readings.

We love this series. It teaches children and adults alike how to "see" art the fantastic way I learned in History of Art in college. The book walks one through 13 pieces of art in a way that teaches many aspects of art in an easy and enjoyable way; one automatically appreciates it.

It's exceptionally difficult to find a book that teaches people about modern art, and this book does the job beautifully. It is good for children of all ages and adults who haven't studied art thoroughly. There are questions to ask before teaching about the pictures. For example, the cover photo's questions are, "Describe the animal you see in this painting. Describe the background scene. Does this scene look like one you might see in real life? In what ways has the artist used his imagination in painting this scene? Does this look like a calm, quiet scene or an active, loud one? What makes you think so? These questions seem young as I type them, but they do get everyone thinking. There is background information on the history, artist and their motivations and symbolism in pictures.

Great guide. Now they need to inform the reader that the best kept secret in American colleges is West Point. Did you know that, even though West Point is all FULL scholarships and even though it ranks with Harvard, Yale, and Princeton in all-time Rhodes Scholarships, everyone who really wants to get in has a good chance of it? Here's some free advice. Before you do anything else, find out what West Point is all about. Get a hold of the book "West Point: Character Leadership Education" by Norman Thomas Remick.

This book is full to the brim---a Leprechaun's pot of gold, if you can just catch the Leprechaun! If you like writing contests you will find many here that will appeal to you, and the sooner you get started the better you will do! It is, of course, a given, that often entering writing contests puts one at a disadvantage in some cases, where the prizes are large and professionals are more apt to throw in their shining entries; however, here we have so many with such a variety of prizes that anyone with any ability whatsoever should be able to win in one or more of the contests. The variety of possibilities is an aid, as well; from the short poem or brief essay to the novel, a niche may be found for one's work. The descriptions of the entry requirements are clear and easily understandable, and the closing dates well marked. The helpful hints included are a boon to veteran contesters as well as newbies, and I would suggest a thorough study of these before putting quill to parchment, as it were. I heartily recommend this illustrious collection of contests for all, and it is a welcome entrant into the lists of contests, of which there are all too few at this point in time. Let us hope it becomes an annual directory.
