El Cacique.

Dos historias con mas de 500 años de diferencia cuyo principal protagonista es la Peste Negra, dos historias totalmente diferentes al comienzo que a medida que avanzan van teniendo una logica comun.
Una de las historias comienza en Londres en el 2005, Janie, Carolina y Bruce se ven envueltos en una peligrosa aventura despues de activar una cepa de Peste extraida en una excavacion y las peripecias que tienen que realizar para no ser detenidos por la policia biológica o morir contagiados.
La otra historia comienza en 1348, cuando Alejandro Canches, despues Hernandez, tras huir de Aragón y llegar a Avigñon es enviado por el Papa a proteger a la familia real britanica de la Peste, convirtiendoce en el medico real, enfrentandoce a la enfermedad, a las voluntades palaciegas y descubriendo la cura de la terrible enfermedad antes de huir de Gran Bretaña.
Una novela muy bien escrita donde dos historias diferentes van entrelazando los destinos de sus personajes. Preferiblemente leer esta novela primero que "Ruta de Fuego" la segunda parte de "La Plaga"

Beautiful story to read. It takes back to the Aztec times and their lifestyle. I couldn't stop reading this book.

Even though I have a fairly good level of reading comprehension of Spanish in general, I find the language of Spanish drama of this period to be difficult to understand. Many times I have tried to read La Vida es Sueno without commentary, only to put it aside. This edition with notes by Vincent Martin is excellent. There are helpful footnotes on particularly difficult verses and archaic words have a definition on the same page. One feature that is truly beneficial is the very succinct introductory explanation of prosody and line scanning. I have always been baffled by the meter of dramatic poetry in de la Barca and de Vega, but not anymore. The only negative criticism is that the definition of the archaic words are printed on the right hand margin and often spill over to the next line where another definition begins. This can be confusing and takes some adjustment to understand. Ideally the play should be read without any notes, but for those who are in the position of requiring a commentary, this is a fantastic tool for obtaining a thorough comprehension of La Vida Es Sueno. Hopefully the publisher Cervantes and Co will provide us with more plays in this format. The commentary is in English.

What a delight for lovers of Regency. Gail Eastwood is a wonderful writer. All her books have great characters, superb dialogue and exciting plots, and this book is no exception. The heroine is very sympathetic. Her adventures hold the reader's attention from the first paragraph, and the hero is yummy! Grab this book. You'll be glad you did!

This is a good book for travellers who like drive tours, walking and hiking and like to plan their own iteneraries. We had a very difficult time finding information about hikes around Costa Del Sol. On one hike, we met a group from the Marbella Walking club and asked them where we could get detailed information about hikes in the area and directions to trail heads. They recommended the book with the sunflower and told us it was the best. I agree. The book has car tours of the area, with pictures and information about trails from those routes. The trail maps have symbols showing highlights like scenic vistas and qaurry. It gives us elevation gain, loss, distance and trail conditions (Eg. wet, rocky, steep). The book is small enough to fit easily into a backpack. The picnic settings recommended in the book are good for enjoying mountain villages and the scenic beauty of the area. The information in the book takes you off the beaten path to areas the tour guides do not mention.

I have the 1st edition. This is not just a dictionary, it is more like an encyclopedia with detailed entries about every aspect of spanish dance. There are many relevant drawings and diagrams to illustrate the steps. I would recomend this to anyone who is learning about Spanish dancing

Nunca había oído nada sobre Almudena Grandes. Recuerdo que en el año 2000 llegué a una librería y estaba en la vitrina un libro cuyo nombre llamó poderosamente mi atención: "Las edades de Lulu". Sin siquiera abrir el libro para leer las primeras páginas lo compré. Encontré en su interior la desgarradora, intensa y extraña historia de una mujer que vive su sexualidad en extremos que llevan al abismo. Ella, con el deseo de romper todo lo establecido, se monta en un carrusel de encuentros casuales que la dejan sumida en un estado de abandono casi igual al que sintió durante su infancia. Es un libro que habla en realidad de la soledad, la locura y los extremos. Lo interesante es que no se queda en la descripción de encuentros íntimos sino que establece claramente el perfil psicológico de Lulu.

Difícilmente encontramos en la literatura en español del siglo XX un escritor quien, como Delibes tenga un dominio del idioma semejante. En 'Las Guerras' nos topamos con un vocabulario que irremediablemente nos hará desempolvar el diccionario, menester que se hace con gusto pues la plena comprensióon de la trama bien lo amerita, y a la vez del grán deleite que supone el diálogo en sí, Delibes nos envuelve en un manto apacible de expresiones que algúna vez escuchamos por ahí, en la provincia, en el campo, tal vez las decía la abuela o el tío que conocimos cuando niños y el volverlas a sentir es conmovedor, como conmovedora es la historia de los antepasados de Pacífico Pérez.
La obra se ha adaptado bien al teatro pero sus representaciónes fuera de España son raras, así que hay que leer de un jalón esta novela que no tiene desperdicio.
Como fanático por la obra de Delibes me parece que solo hay un libro que supera a 'Las Guerras' y es 'El Hereje'.
Tras leer toda la obra de Delibes, pareciera que a la academia sueca le ha pasado de largo reconocer a uno de los más sobresalientes escritores en Español del siglo XX sin que esto demerite la obra de Cela ni de Paz ni de Neruda ni de otros, total, a Unamuno a García Lorca, a Sábato o a Ortega y Gasset tampoco les dió (ni buscaban) premio Nobel algúno. Quizá para merecer ciertos galardónes hay que cambiar de estilo y privilegiar a las palabras soeces, a la violencia, o al desarrollo de historias sicalípticas.

It's such a relief to have the Siete Partidas available in this attractive, reasonably priced set. The venerable Robert I. No more ploughing through paragraph after paragraph of Old Spanish, in 19th-century print, to get to the enlightening and even entertaining ideas that so well characterize the 13th century and give sociological background to any kind of medieval research.
