I was raised in an Humble Oil camp in Monroe City, Texas as a
child.This book really hit home.You have the history of the oil
industry in Texas from the beginning.Of course Spindletop is
given coverage in this book.Another company that had it's beginnings in Texas was Texaco.This also makes for an interesting read.The biggest comany was of course Humble Oil and
Refining.This company was in turn bought by Standard Oil Company
of New Jersey.It is today Exxon-Mobil.This is an excellent story

of the oil industry in Texas.I was fascinated by this book.Buy it
and read it.

This wonderful book makes a compelling and thoughtful case for environmental care, but is never strident and is totally free of hyperbole. In addition, it is charming, interesting, informative - just a delightful read, one to be shared with friends who are concerned about our world and friends who should be.

Relevant, important information about the interconnection of everything that exists on our living planet, earth. Elegant in its presentation, enlightening with its content, non-partisan about why we should be concerned, inspiring in its simplicity. Informed and educated; I learned things I never would have even thought to ask about. Not to be ignored or overlooked. Everyone should have to read this book!

A wonderful book; I'd buy another like it in a heartbeat. For Mesoamerican/Aztec cultural arts fans, this is a "must buy" and makes a SUPER gift!

Anyone serious about understanding the Aztec mind and social order should read both "Time and Sacrifice in the Aztec Cosmos" (K. A. Read) and also, "THE JADE STEPS" by Burr Cartwright Brundage (University of Utah Press; (c)1985; ISBN# 0-87480-247-4). FYI, Dr. Brundage has authored nearly a dozen extraordinarily well written and researched books on Aztec civilization; most are (sadly) tough to find.

This is just a great book . Fantastic photograghy and great writing. It made feel like I was there ! This book is just great!!! If your wanting a good book on Egypt you should get this one . This book you get more than your moneys worth !!!!

Highly recommended. As a former student of Ketner's, and having used this book coupled with a class, this book paints an easy, easy fundamental understanding of Peirce's Existential Graphing, and that understanding provides a whole world of insight into the limitations of traditional logic diagramming systems. Highly recommended.

Truly this book is one of the clearest introductions to logic on the market today. For those who struggle with the confusion of symbolic logic this book wipes the table clean using a method of logic rather unheard-of among laypeople. It is highly understandable. Anyone who can read can learn logic from it. Its visual graphs of reasoning make it perfect for those who think with their eyes. I would recommend it above all other book of logic with which I have had experience.

I happened on to this book by just browsing through ..., a great way to find books I would not ordinarily run across. Unfortunately most of the Elvis books I find are very disappointing such as that recent (2001) travesty of a bibliography on Elvis that basically imparts very little information about each entry. Then again, I sometimes luck out and run into a book so fabulous and well done, I want to tell the world. Such a book is Aaron Webster's Elvis: A Radio History from 1945 to 1955. I would have thought that Mr. Guralnick's exhaustive works on Elvis would have covered just about everything but Mr. Webster proves otherwise. This book is detailed, accurate and features much new information, especially on the radio interviews Elvis did in his first full professional year, 1955. The information on Elvis at the Louisiana Hayride is equally as exhaustive. In my opinion, this book shows what a natural communicator Elvis was and how fascinating he would have been, and probably very happy as well, had he been able to interview, visit radio stations, put on live shows, and more, throughout the sixties, instead of being stuck away making some interesting but not too exciting films. Not only is the writing very incisive and to the point, the charts at the end of the book are well constructed and very informative, allowing me to fully understand much of what Elvis did in detail that year plus before he moved on to record for RCA Records. Congratulations Mr. Webster, on a fresh new look at early Elvis and a book truly worthy of ranking up there with the classic works on Elvis such as those done by Mr. Guralnick and Mr. Jorgensen.

I compare this book to my two favorites; ELVIS & GLADYS by Elaine Dundy and AROUND ELVIS by Thorne Peters. Those books and this one show us that there are so many layers left of Elvis' life yet to be discovered. Like his music, we have barely scratched the surface of his being and the best is yet to come. These books show us what we've already seen in such a new light that it is fresh and vibrant each time you read it. These books reveal that Elvis' life was as multi faceted as he was multi talented. To this short list I would add IF I CAN DREAM by Larry Geller and LAST TRAIN TO MEMPHIS, by Peter Guralnick. In these books Elvis is shown to be a multi dimesnsional human and not the second coming. The more you humanize Elvis and see him for the man he was the more incredible he becomes and the more you realize just how phenomenal his acheivements are. In life and in death, Elvis is forever 2nd to NONE!

There are many great examples of basic image processing techniques in this book. Topics like Image Filtering, Edge Detection and also some Wavelets. There is both theory and detailed examples which really helps when trying to get the DSP in a symbiotic relationship with Matlab, CodeComposer Studio and MS Visual Studio.

There is a logical flow in how information is presented. First a basic description of the algorithm. Second some Matlab or pseudo-code. Then third he describes exactly how to implement it on the c6x dsp. Not only are there implementation details but also interfacing explanation for both Matlab and Visual Studio.

Overall this is an excellent book for getting a project up and running in a timely fashion.

This is an extremely well laid out and understandable text. The coding examples are easy to understand and can be easily demonstrated on the TI DSK's. As a current TI employee with little experience with the C6x line of DSP's, Qureshi's book allowed me to learn a large amount of image processing background in a short time while becoming familiar with the workings of Code Composer Studio and the DSP. The book starts very simply and has clear instructions on how to obtain the tools to run all of the code samples on real DSPs.

Starting with an overview of the tools involved and the C6x architecture, Qureshi moves into simple image processing concepts, such as contrast stretching and window/level processing. After clearly explaining the concept and the implementation, the reader is led through the process of optimizing the code for the DSP environment. Later topics, such as edge detection and wavelets leave the reader with a clear understanding of the fundamentals of image processing, as well as code examples that make implementation a breeze.

Overall, an excellently written book and a must for anyone interested in image processing, whether on TI DSPs or not.

David has a baby left on his doorstep and when he goes to the local department store to buy baby supplies, he meets shy-moussy Marissa who is dressed in a story book costume. David needs a nanny and thinks Marissa would be perfect,he offers her a lot of money and she takes the position. Soon David sees the sexy woman under the shy exterior and before long sparks are flying. Of course, his reputation as a womanizer doesn't help his suit. This is one of my favorites in the Texas Cattleman's series.

Another installment in the Texas Cattleman's Club series - Silhouette Desire #1547 (November 2003) - "Entangled With A Texan" by Sara Orwig. Book summary from back cover:

I thought this would be the perfect book since I have eleven grandchildren and would love showing them (one at a time, I don't lack ALL my senses) our great state! And I was, the book was everything I expected and more. Only thing is, I always have to hunt it down and find who borrowed it last. From my own kids to my brothers and sisters, I never know exactly where it is. Guess I need to order everyone their own copy!! Keep that in mind when you get yours. It's a wonderful guide to all the places you know about and so SO many you don't. If you're planning on traveling Texas with your lil' rugrats, you need this book! It'll will guarantee a good time for all.

A travel guide for families that hits the highlights of Texas without complicating the trip planning with too many details. Only problem is that phone numbers (at least area codes) keep changing, but this book lists web pages to help a family get more information on the part of the state they want to see.

Luckily, I live in Austin and get to see more of this genius' work than many do. He is a hidden wonder. He should be King. His works are funny, both funny ha ha and funny peculiar. They are word smart. They are bursting with story, that for which we are so hungry. And they are so satisfying on these levels that one begins to take their beauty for granted. When I get bored, I look at a Sam Hurt, and see the world afresh and afunny, and beautiful again.

I picked up a copy of this book a long time ago from the kansas university bookstore. I couldn't believe how much better it was than anything in the paper. Why wasn't it in the paper?!! of course! It was too good to be next to those cheap hacked out cookie cutters. it was sam hurt that inspired me to start my own career as an underground cartoonist . And it was sam hurt that I ultimately blame for getting thrown out of kansas university art school. Curse your damn cartoon!--chris burn
