MY BEST FRIEND GOT THE BOOK AND SHE LENDED IT TO ME I COULDNT PUT IT DOWN FOR A SECOND. I FINISHED THE BOOK IN FIVE HOURS IT WAS THE BEST BOOK I EVER READ IT KEEPS YOU IN SUSPENSE THE WHOLE TIME.

I read this book back in my 20's and have reread it several times since then. I can only say that it put so many things into perspective. It has also helped me understand people around me and gave me the courage to take a lot of risks in my life. It's not a quick fix to make you happy, but the philosophy of this book does instruct on how to live with unhappiness and make better choices that can lead to happiness.

I used this book a great deal when I was a practicum student with little knowledge about substance abuse. It provides an extensive glossary/dictionary of both medical and slang terms for thousands of entries. I strongly recommend this book for anyone who would like to develop thier understanding of substance abuse.

I was one of the Assistant Editors for this set of Encyclopedias so I read a good percentage of the articles. This set covers a good range of topics, and is written primarily for non-experts. The list of contributing authors reads like a Who's Who of the field. It's a great starting resource for High School and College Students interested in various research topics. It carries a pretty hefty price tag, however, so buying this is probably not a good idea for the average consumer. Definitely recommend it to your local libraries though!

For anyone who is interested in the impact of outside social influences on the way writers write, this is a must read. This book is thoughtful, provocative, and interesting, with enough scholarly insight for the expert and lively and engaging commentary for the lay reader.

This is a work that focuses on ethical issues in a narrow but important area of behavioral and clinical science: substance misuse. It draws on a wide range of talented scholars from areas as diverse as law, medicine, psychology, and social work to address ethical issues in substance misuser treatment, research, and public policy. The topics are not obtuse but rather critical to how individuals with substance use disorders are treated or mistreated in the clinical, legal, and research setting. This is not a work for those whose interest in the ethics of this subject is only casual or whose wiliness to devote study and effort to the subject is minimal. However, for those who work in this area as clinicians, researchers, teachers, public safety personnel, or public policy makers the work is central and indispensable.

Concise, easy to understand, much in the manor of "A Time For Healing", which helped me greatly as an ACA, and is in my opinion the best book on the subject of alcoholism/ACA issues

This book was exactly what I was looking for. It came in perfect condition and in a timely manner.

There's an awful lot of books out there purporting to be written by "the experts" regarding alcoholism and drug addiciton. Very few of them provide any useful insights into how the families of those suffering from Chemical Dependency can find the help they so badly need. In this book Stephanie Brown and her colleagues put their many years of research and experience together in a format that is easily understood and more perhaps more importantly that can be put into practice. She demystifies and gives language to concepts and ideas that can be baffling and overwhelming to families in crisis. The stages of recovery from active use through early recovery and the trauma that involves, moving through to ongoing recovery issues, are explained clearly, highlighting how the family "system" is affected and tools the family can use to navigate each stage.
I loved this book, it helped me make sense of my own alcoholic family in a way no other book has been able to.
