I'm in agreement with Dr. Papa, drugging our kids to control their behavior is missing the bigger picture. Changing the diet of my kids made a huge difference in their behavior. The books makes this very easy. I would recommend this book to anyone who is faced with behavioral problems with their kids.

I've already leant more chapters of this book to students and colleagues than I can remember. Clearly written, concise and comprehensive, it is the best introduction to human behavioural quantitative genetics available. I'd recommend it to everyone with an interest in the genetic basis of behaviour.

Thousands of self-help books are on the market. This one was not written as self-help. It was written for those in recovery from alcohol.
However, anyone practicing its guidelines and suggestions can find a life of peace, joy and freedom from fear.
It must be read daily, like prescription medicine that must be taken everyday. It is life changing. Others will see the positive changes before you do.

If you're ready to stop drinking...

This is an awesome book. Well written in a non-judgemental, compassionate manner I found real-life help to stop drinking. It's fairly small and easy to tuck-away in a bag or desk. Even if you're just thinking about quitting alcohol, pick-up this book. I love the "banned from my hand" technique to resist temptation -- it really works. Lot's of other great information about AA (what meetings are like, etc.), ways to curb cravings (drink a couple glasses of water -- you might be thirsty!), and other real-life ways to make the internal committment a reality from a professional with years of experience with alcoholics. Would also pick-up The Big Book from Alcoholics Anonymous as well, even if AA is not for you. If you're serious about addressing your drinking problem, this book is the way to help you get through the first 30 days. Highly recommended.

After reading Chris's book, "Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death," I was finally able to quit smoking within 5 days of completing the book. I have been a smoker for over 20 years and have tried everything on the market to quit, but was unable to do so, but this time was different for me. Using Chris's simple TCM method, I got down to 7 cigarettes, and then decided that I was never going to buy another pack. I quit cold turkey. I never missed it, and only had the cravings for a few days. Chris gave me the courage to conquer something I possibly never could have.

This is truly a heartfelt and courageous story about one of America's #1 nightmares, namely, drug abuse. It strikes one out of every three families and has been proven fatal in many cases. However, rarily do we hear of people going public with their personal trauma and degradation in order to help others. After having read this book, it will give you a totally different insight about the effects of drugs and addiction. It is an act of God that a person can sustain and live to tell about such a tragedy of events.

An Excellent Resource Applying Scripture to the Twelve Steps

God Help me Stop is an excellent book. It takes the reader through the twelve steps and gives Scripture for each step. I have used this book personally in counselling with those who are struggling with addictions. When the steps are followed it is an effective tool in helping people to find freedom from addictions.
The book contains the reading material. It gives the twelve steps and the scripture verses from the Bible which apply to each step. The workbook which is seperate is an added tool to allow the reader to write down thoughts about each of the twelve steps and apply them to his or her own life.

Honest struggle of an eloquent man

This book describes all aspects of a sensitive and intelligent man's struggle against alcoholism. Despite all the relapses in the past and possibly the future, the only sensible thing to do is to keep searching for a way to release the self of this constant preoccupation. This man is always questioning and evaluating, choosing his words carefully and always aware of the consequences his addiction has on the people around him and of course on his own life.
Very useful account for people struggling with addiction and everyone interested in them, out of professional or personal interest.

Simplistic answers are no longer useful in addiction treatment --we might argue that they even set up patients for failure and discouragement -- and it is time that both treatment adminstrators and clinicians recognize the importance of moving beyond gender sensitivity to gender competence. Without sacrificing depth or range, this book also addresses the importance of the relational theory that has attracted interest among progressive treatment professionals while also offering practical ideas and suggestions for veteran clinicians and newcomers alike. It is also a valuable text for students and educators.
