Addictions Books

This book is an OUTSTANDING and entertaining guide to to consumer brands, popular culture, and of course, practical advice in quitting smoking. I am not a smoker myself (I've dabbled in cigars a few times) but I found this to be an awesome and enlightening read.

"Cigarette Seduction" is every bit as good as, and in many ways better than, books regarding popular culture such as "Fast Food Nation", "Edge Cities" and "Populuxe". Most importantly, the book gives practical tips for tangible self-actualization regarding tranforming smoking and similar "bad habits" into sustainable, positive action.

Highly recommended!

I have been sober for over twenty years, and for every person I meet in AA, I know ten who should be members but are put off by the slogans, seemingly religious orientation, etc. This is the first book I ever read about other paths to sobriety; a world wide survey of what works and what does not. (For instance, in Poland, far from being anonymous, if you are long term sober, they put you on TV. Why should our often illiterate amd overpaid athletes and rock stars be our only culture heros?)
A first class, helpful book, authoratative - the author is a professor of psychiatry at Stanford -- and very easy to read-- no jargon. Bill Manville

I am ana B. Arguello ("Star"). I spent the better part of the last decade with Dr. Stannard-Friel (the Doc) and Tammi ("City Baby") working on this book, working on TLU, working on becoming a better person, working on my life. I have been to the torture chambers of sexual and human abuse called prisons in the State of California, I have been strung out on heroine, I have been everywhere that people in their "right mind" wouldn't go. I have been a burr in the a$$ of society and have spent a 11 years reconciling with my famil and that society. But I have never been to this side of "me".

It is one thing to tell your story (12-steppers do it every day all day...or die). It is another thing to write your story and read it aloud. But it is an unexplainable experience to read your life, written and analyzed (and true) by someone else.

The trilogies read like a gripping science fiction, fiction, novel...and they are all true...I know, it is my life. And now I advocate to uplift prisoner's rights to preserve human rights...because everything that I have lived, recorded in this book stills goes on...it still haunts me...in there...and out here!

One of the best books I've read for dealing with any addiction. It hits at the root of the cause rather than trying to cover up the symptoms, and then offers a way out. Adapting the 12 step program to LDS beliefs and using the author's own experiences with his addictions, you receive a well-thought out plan on how to deal with these difficult issues.

Really great book,I would say a manual for everybody,who wants to live according to catholic true.Very helpfull to cope with sexuality.I recommend this book even to noncatholics.

I appreciate these short cuts for treatment planning. These are complicated issues and the planner gives me great ideas and makes my job easy............

In doing a report on cocaine for a class I took I read a number of books of cocaine. This book was the most comprehensive and yet understandable book on not only the drug but its effect on every part of the human body. I never thought it would be possible to get this good an understanding of a drug and the addiction without knowing a lot of medical stuff. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to know more, especially if you know someone dealing with this addiction.

This book includes very practical guidelines and charts and record forms for the therapist to apply to the patients with substance abuse. The format of the book is clear, precise and very readable !

This is a handbook which I believe is needed in our community. With so many suffering from various forms of addiction, this book seems to be an important tool to complete healing for victims and their families. It really opened my eyes to the lies and truth behind this addiction. If you or someone close to you is struggling, this is a MUST READ book.
