This book has it all. Everything from co-dependency to nutrition, relationships to support systems. It's easily read and being a paperback makes it ideal as a handout. I use it a lot in my work as a therapist and my clients have all appreciated the coverage it provides of the subject. This is a must have in the library of anyone who works with addicted persons or their families.

As the director of a gay and lesbian treatment center we have made this book our "basic text". Every new admit is given this book to read and the workbook format is excellent for working the steps. It replaces the traditional 12 Step Big Books and our own written step materials. We now have a book that puts it all into one: how sexual identity issues affect compulsive and addictive behaviors with concrete ways to recover from this destructive behavior.

I pick up a copy when I first got sober over 12 years ago. I think for the LBGT communty it's one of best books out there for the new comer as well as the old timer. I pick up copies where ever I find them and give them to others in recovery. It's Fantastic

Ibogaine--a anti addictive drug, but use with caution

This article reads as though Ibogaine is somewhat of a novelty. It is not. They worked with it down at the Univ of Florida or Univ of Miami for awhile til some legal issues came out. Ibogaine has been around for over 100 years..and there is no doubt that it does IN FACT help those with addictions to heroin, cocaine, alcohol. However, there are risks, that are mostly cardiac. It decreases the cravings of addictions according to those who have used it. Atrial fibrillations and flutters must be watched for, so those with any cardiac problems probably should not take IBO. In Ibogaine clinics you need a sitter, that is, someone with you AT ALL times. I know personally two people who went to clinics and the IBO did eliminate their addiction, but the costs at the clinics were around $5000--one was in Canada and one at St. Kitts. Also, this article is incorrect-- as there are at present about 12 ibogaine clinics including the ones in Europe that are in operation. I don't know what the FDA has against this drug, seeing as they allowed about 60,000 to die before they pulled Enkaid and Tambocor from the market for cardiac problems during the early 89-90s season. Ibogaine is considered a psychodelic drug from their point of view, and the FDA remains hard lined against it. Ibogaine's 12 or 18 hydroxy isomer is the one most effective in the studies so far. Also, the "millions" (see article) spent by the NIDA in the 90s for research on ibogaine was mostly corrupted and mismanaged, so very little of the money went for research. From my studies about 70% of the "recovered" addicts, go back to addiction in some other form sometimes a year or two later. So, support groups are needed. However, we have other drugs that work for addicts now, so we should be trying those as well. In this country, addiction recovery is not exactly a priority item listed on the walls of law enforecement. There is too much search and seizure incentive to have that. guyairey

Seeburger shows how people get lured into addictive behaviors by actually wanting control over their lives through the predictable outcomes from abusing a substance or activity, and how they can take responsibility for fleeing the slavery of addiction. People become disowned by addiction and can find their way out by taking charge, not by a victim-mentality. A wonderfully insightful book which should be read by everyone.

This audio, taped live at a Common Boundary conference, gives the listener a different perspective of Addiction as a kind of spiritual crisis that, when met with understanding and grace, can lead to the most profound kind of spiritual and personal transformation. A great tape for people in recovery and the counselors who work with them.

This book was very well written. It is good for anyone to read who is interested in learning more about addiction. The author takes an approach on addiction and sheds a whole new light on the disease. There are great illustrations. This could be a great book for any addict or for anyone that knows and addict. It has made me understand addiction with a new view on the disease state. I recommend this to everyone. It will be money well spent!!
