Very handy guideReview Date: 2007-11-16
Thanks to this guide, Arc the Lad: End of Darkness is now one of my favorite games.
The Bradygames guide provides lots of helpful information. The lists of monsters and Counter Tasks were especially valuable since nothing in the game really tells you what's out there. The chapters on spells, accessories, and store lists helped me a lot in figuring out what to buy and what capabilities were available.
The book is filled with beautiful illustrations and screenshots. There were a few typos, and one of the pictures in the Monster guide was incorrect. Also, I found the layout of the maps a bit confusing.
Overall, though, there was enough good information in this guide to make it worth having around.

The Review of Armored Core 3 Prima`s Oficcial Strategy GuideReview Date: 2003-05-30
AC3 is a tough game where only the big ones stand up above the rest of AC`s. You can accomplish this by dedicating long and numerous hours: customizing, improving and testing your AC, buying new parts, etc. This is the only way to win (not that it`s unpleasant, AC fans love it!.) But if you want to open up new missions and acquire new parts or simply beating the game with less time, then you`ve got to get this guide!
First of all, the guide begins with a warm introduction, followed by all the general and basic aspects of AC3. It explains quickly yet deeply how to maneuver an AC, all the parameters displayed at the gameplay screen, etc.
After this, is where half of the guide is dedicated for: The 50 missions. It explains when they appear, what to do to make them appear (in case of a secret one), the best way to beat them and much more, all of this for each single mission. Sometimes, the guide briefs too quick the mission, but it shows the essential. Also, the guide recommends a "Required Raven Rank", showing us how difficult the mission will be (it also happens with the "Succes Rate".)
After this huge section, you come across the "Inventory". This explains what kind of mech you have to build for XYZ kind of mission (the guide even give us two mechs built already: one light weight and one heavy weight), shows optional parts, several comparison tables for every AC part, (I really like this section because for example I can give myself an idea of what AC part I`ll change later and such.)
In the decoration department, it doesn`t outstand a lot. You`ll see lots of repetitive pictures throughout the entire guide, especially those taken from a popular CG movie within the game. Overall, it has an orange darkish metallic look and makes you feel like your in the right place. Something that left me like:"What happened?" was that all the way from the "Inventory" to the end of the guide was black and white! It has no colors! Weird? Yeah. Does it make it cheaper for Prima to produce this guide? Another Yeah. Or at least, that`s the way I see it best. But it`s not a Major drawback. Other interesting and honorable extra sections are multiplayer tips, all secrets, all of the arena opponents revealed and a large table with the definitions of all the parts legends.
Last but not the least, I haven`t seen any of those irritating orthographic or photographic mistakes in the guide. They are so common and sooooo irritating, I must say.
Overall, with this guide you won`t have much trouble seeing everything the game has to offer and that`s a lot of funny, interesting, entertaining and super-action-and-adrenaline-packed levels, bosses and missions with lots of replay value, superb graphics and intense music.

Very helpful strategy guide for Army Men Air Combat!Review Date: 2000-10-09
I played through the game, and when I got up to Mission 8, I would have been very frustrated without the strategy guide's recommendations. Army Men Air Combat for the N64 is a very challenging game!
I think one of the best things about this game is that you can play the same 1-player campaigns in two-player co-operative mode. So while I was busy trying to solve the mission objectives, my kid brother was having a blast blowing up stuff with his helicopter! This is a very good multi-player game!
On top of that, there are several 4-player multiplayer modes! I would have thought that playing a 4-player multiplayer game with helicopters would be lame, but it turned out to be quite fun! (The strategy guide was also very helpful in giving strategies on this mode!)
I would definitely recommend picking up this strategy guide if you've bought the game!

A Brilliant Pioneering Work of Depth and Breadth!Review Date: 2005-01-15
Following the Vietnam War, a major rethinking about the type of education and skills needed to fight a modern-day war resulted in many reforms that led to the U.S. military's swift victory in "Operation Desert Storm" in 1991. Building on those successes, the United States Marine Corps undertook a search for new discoveries with the potential to influence the military's thinking about and readiness for future conficts. Through this effort they learned about the emerging new field of nonlinear studies, also known as chaos theory and complexity science.
In 1995, under the direction of Lt. General Paul K. Van Riper (now retired) an "Office of New Sciences" was established within the Marine Corps Combat Development Command--a sort of futures think tank for the Marine Corps--to explore the possible applications of complexity to the Marine Corps' strategic thinking about the future of combat.
In the Forward to this book General Van Riper writes, "In an initial discussion Dr. Ilachinski (employed by the Center for Naval Analysis and invited by Gen. Van Riper to meet with him to discuss these ideas) suggested we focus our research on the relevance of complexity theory to land combat because of its unique characteristics, these being hierarchically organized units engaged in multifaceted interactions with each other and the enemy over complicated terrain." This book is the story of the project, insights and models that resulted from those early conversations.
Despite (I write with a laugh) his math and physics background, Ilachinski is a wonderful writer, taking his time with each subject and thus making this book accessible to the nonscientist with a basic understanding of complexity. It's also fun to work with the basic model (described here in detail) and explore some of the more abstract ideas from complexity and their applications to many domains beyond those for which it was originally developed (namely, combat). There is also within this book a self-contained primer on complexity. I was so impressed with the clarity of this section that I asked the book's publisher to make this section available as a separate publication (to which they agreed) for my workshops and seminars on complexity. This book is a valued reference that I have used over and over. As an aside, Andy is also an accomplished photographer (visit his photography website) whose stunning photographs capture nature's elegance, simplicity, beauty and complexity.
As a final tribute to Ilachinski's incredible pioneering work, General Van Riper writes in the book's Forward, "When histories of this era are written Dr. Andrew Ilachinski is likely to emerge as the 'Father of Military Complexity Research'...Those in positions with responsibility for planning and conducting the Nation's defense today and into the foreseeable future ignore this book at great peril for it offers deep and meaningful insights into war on land." You won't be disappointed with this book. It's worth every penny!
