1. Book is for new complex computer systems. However I use in support of an aging Naval Aviation Aircraft ( A/C ). I am no
mathematician, however with my trusty ERA books on Calculus, Statistics, and Vector Calculus, I was able to " tread the waters
". I have performed many, many Reliability & Support Analysis, and CARMS provides another very usefull tool. Math majors should
have no difficulty with the subject matter, however applying this is the high light of the book;
2. I have been very unsucessfull in trying to reach the authors to make recommendations on the next revision. I request assistance, and will leave my employment phone number below. Thanks.

I'm an instructional designer and I've chosen to use this book as both for a text in classes I instruct and as a handbook
for working with faculty members at my university. The book focuses on ways to help students think better using technology
tools, many of which are commonly available (such as spreadsheets). Many such books focus on ways to use technology first,
with practical applications for teaching and learning second. Not so in this case. If you have to buy just one book on
instructional technology, this is the one.
Excellent book that looks at technology use in education in very new ways

I think that every teacher would be wise to read this book. It does an excellent job of demonstrating the constructionist
principle, and its suggestions for using technology to help students think for themselves and develop new ways of thinking,
is very good.
I've read many books on technology and education, and I have taught educators about technology. This has so far been the most intriguing book on the subject, and a book that got me to "think outside the box" (in a good way), more than any other book on the subject, other than the Problem Solving with Technology book in the same series.

As it's name implies this book covers only elementary methods, and this makes it extremely useful for beginners. Particularly
higher undergraduate and graduate students with no previous knowledge of computer simulation methods. It is very kind with
the reader, being very explicit on many topics other books take for granted. The sections on hard sphere simulation are
particularly long compared with other books on the subject. The code included is very well organized and helpful, every
book should have it documented this way!. If you program in fortran it's very useful, but if you program in C I recommend
Rapaport's book instead, altough it's a little more difficult. I particularly liked the introduction about simulation
and some phylosophical aspects of it.

If you're just getting started in molecular dynamics, especially if it's not really where you wanted to be in the first place,
this may be the book for you.
The pace is brisk. Readers unsure of their calculus or Newtonian physics may struggle. The brief first chapter addresses the basics: what are the questions, which ones can computation address, and with what result. Chapters two to five develop successively more refined models up through Lennard-Jones soft-sphere models. That puts the reader about half-way through the book, to the point where it becomes less about physics and more about real chemistry. The next two chapters deal with the basics of thermodynamics and a bit on evaluating stability of the computed results.
The last third of the book is mostly appendices. The first three are decidedly of interest to the chemistry beginner, but the next dozen or so could have been dropped with no harm to the book's main content. "A Random-Number Generator" and "Conventions for Naming Variables in Fortran" are redundant and irrelevant (respectively) in most contemporary computing environments. If someone needs computing advice at that level, they're probably not ready for the load this book presents.
What's good is very good, though. The introduction material is sensible and adequately rigorous, with many and varied references at the end of each chapter. My interest in computational chemistry is mostly in the computation, not in the chemistry. Given that computational chemistry is a huge field, Haile has done a good job of keeping a sharp focus on one range of techniques and on a specific level of reader.

This book contains the MODOFC software package and associated documentation that implements many of the methods described
in the book. Very worthwhile.
I especially appreciated that each chapter ended with a summary of selected references and brief histories of the methodologies presented in the book.

Drs. Ahlfeld and Mulligan bring the art of optimal groundwater remediation and management to the practitioner in this well
thought out and written book. It contains the descriptions of the mathematics that describe the management challenges, application
advice as well as the code on a CD. The book is a must read to anyone in the field of environmental remediation where the
optimal use of groundwater resources or cost minimization of remediation is of value.

you to laugh out loud, and you will see yourself and so many others within the pages. It`s just for fun, but packed with true-isms,
and half true-isms! Good to pull out on those rainy days, while waiting at the 19th hole, or at golf parties !!!!

So far I have only road tested the "Roman Emperor Simulation", but in the several days since we played the game, I have been
asked each day whether we can play another round! More importantly, in our post-game debriefing students were quite articulate
in explaining why each of the major social groups from the game would have had incentives to overthrow an uppity or weakly
dominant emperor, and in our continuing study of the decline and fall of the Romans, students have referred back to game-making
decisions as ways of understanding the internal and external challenges Roman emperors faced in the waning days of the Empire.
I am a considerable fan of the "What If" counterfactual questions at the end of the book. End-of-semester finals approach
quickly, and I plan on trying a few of these questions out as a way of encouraging a more entertaining but still historically-grounded
review process. One final word -- as I was preparing to use this book in class, I had a few questions about the game. I
emailed the author, and he responded quickly and with very complete answers. Student recommendations, the What-If extras,
and good customer service (!) make this a quality product.

"Rich Di Giacomo has developed a dozen simulation games covering issues and events in world and US History...All have their
foundation in the serious history which they address. Added to this are dramatics, color, and flexibility which readily entice
students into the thorny issues raised. Each game can be used on its own, and each contains all you need to play, though
many teachers will naturally add still more information, costumes, and other play aids. Debriefing questions and conversations
are included for each activity." June 2003
