Fighting Books

As a Vietnam-era US cavalry officer who commanded a Sheridan unit, I am all too familar with the operational problems during the M551's service life (ammunition, drive train, and missile system). It was a bear to keep the Sheridan going, but if we had gone to war, it was all we had in The Cav. I think Mr. Hunnicutt has done a very admirable job in detailing how this country went from an excellent recon tank (the M-41) to the miserable Sheridan. Let future generations of soldiers learn from the mistakes of my generation.P.S. This book is very heavy on detail - only those who love the smell of diesel and creaking tracks will totally comprehend the work that went into completing this research masterpiece.

Shintaido is martial arts from Japan. Hiroyuki Aoki is founder. It is based karate and aikido. If you have interested in martial arts, body movement, healing and meditation, you can enjoy to read it.

Originally a 2-volume set in 1968, Volume 1 ("major warhips") has been updated up to 2006, and apparently includes some minor vessels that are "warships" - - with the original author deceased, it apppears the remainding co-author is left to carry on (w/ 40 years of naval service) and has evolved Vol. 1 into a single, prime title.
Basically, it is a list in a book -- ships names are in alphabetical order, with abbreviated info of type ("aircraft carrier"), light displacement (e.g. 22,000 tons), 2 dimensions (l & w, no draft), original armament (no cal lengths), builder (e.g. Cammell Laird), launch date, disposition (e.g. sunk 14.11.41 by U.81 off Gibraltar).
The list is arranged in 2 columns per page - - - the book is a medium format (9.5" x 6.5") hard cover -- there are NO photos, drawings or illustrations except for the cover.
For pre-20th RN navy lists, you should consider the David Lyon 2-book references (large format), but they are (very) expensive and also have no illustrations.
As a list book, "Ships" is as complete as they come and reasonable priced (when discounted), but you will have to refer to other books to get anything other than abbrev. data.

This book gives specific recommendations on how to help your child adopt healthy lifestyles to prevent and treat obesity. At a time when the number of overweight children is greatly increasing, this book provides timely advice. The book is easy to read and is not full of medical jargon even though it is written by a medical doctor. The advice echoes what my pediatrician had recommended for my child, only that it is much more specific in its recommendations. I greatly recommend it to any parent battling with the difficult problem of childhood obesity.

I read this book in one go. I highly recommend it to people suffering from either bulimia or anorexia and to their familiy as well. It gives hope to those going through this nightmare showing that it is possible to overcome an eating disorder.

Loved this book, I remember reading it years ago. It was my introduction to the realm of fantasy. Even rereading it now was great. A simple combat system that was fun and a very unique magic system. This is highly reccomended to anyone that wants a fun read or wants to introduce someone to basic fantasy gaming. Hope you all get a chance to read it and revel in the nostalgia. :D

This is a benchmark book on the subject by the late Charles Gruzanski. The use of a short chain with weighted ends employed by a trained practitioner can be deadly effective against an unarmed opponent, which this book will show.

This book covers the art and science of the Japanese weapons fighting forms and employment of the short-chain and Shuriken. In the book the vital spots of the body are meticulously delineated, and the basic combat use of the chain is taught in graphic, easy to understand photographs and text. The proper methods of perforating your target with throwing darts/Shurikens are explained in detail. As well as how to construct your own "tools" of the trade. For the practicality of these techniques for the combatant is were these techniques fall short. As both methods require time, training and experience to get skilled, to be of any practical use in the short term. But it is somewhat entertaining training.

Overall this book has limited information of value for the combatant. But is ideal for the novice and advanced pupil of martial arts.

I'm am a die hard Cleveland Browns fan and this era of the Browns was very emotional for Cleveland and i could understand why after reading this article in this sports illustrated issue. I am 100% against what art ''satan'' modell did, taking away our beloved Browns team. This issue talks about what that bad man did to such a storied franchise. Its a must have if your a Browns fan reading up on the Brownies past.

This book by Tegner, along with ANY of his books on self-defense is well worth aquiring for those looking to learn how to use a stick for real self-defense usage, not flashy, dojo use.Covers cane, yawara, police club and so on.

Stifled Laughter was Brilliant! The subject of Censorship was the theme interwoven with details of the authors personal life! A very frank funny book that leads you through the trials of fighting the narrow minded while trying to balance life and marriage with two small children. The threat of censorship to both our classic literature and the continued freedom to practice critical thinking make this a book everyone must read!
