A bunch of robot superheroes, in the 2000AD 'we shoot stuff, a lot' sense, vs a planetary entity (Mars), that has gone insane.

Bad things happen. The ABC Warriors are more human than the humans, except they don't bleed, and if you shoot them with a death ray, they will survive, rather than vaporize.

Bad puns, too, 'nano-nano' coating.
'Shazbot!' etc.

Plus a lot of pop culture references that will leave you chortling, better than 'John Cartier of Mars', although that is in there.

What an odd book...

I got this book for free while at a convention. The Black Library was there and I purchaced a number of their books and in doing so was told to take a free book from the bin. Having seen the Judge Dredd movie I was intreagued by the ABC warriors so I picked it up. The book starts off strange and then takes a left turn into wierd. It assumes that you not only already know the characters but that you know of their entire history and the world in which they live. This seems odd as there is only one other book available and it can't possibly relate all the information needed to segue into this one. Setting that asside I continued to read and was periodically confused by a number of things. Robots that need to eat and want to engage in sex? Robots casting magic spells? Seemly unlimited ammo and weapons? A planet attacking its inhabitants *literaly*? Any of these could have been ok if only there was a bit more explanation involved. The redeeming factor is the characters themselves. They're a typical "band of brothers" hodge podge with quirks and idiosyncracies that make them highly entertaining. Combined with the ludicrous number of pop-culture references interspersed thoughout the dialogue made for an enjoyable (if somewhat surreal) read.

I agree that people are annoying. However, this book is just a rant based on the kindle sample. Keep your stress level low and avoid this book. No advice is given, just emotional baggage unneeded by a sane reader.

Great book! This was the authors first book and I gave her 5 stars because for a first book, she really made an impact. The whole book was a REALITY. The first chapter talks about annoying coworkers. While reading about them, you almost feel as if you know them and you can certainly picture the author's facial expressions as she writes about them. Another chapter is about Dunkin Donuts inability to get her order right. She says that the only thing consistent at Dunkin Donuts is the tip jar that is always displayed on the counter. Other chapters include: *Cell Phone users, *Parents LACK OF parenting skills causing kids to be out of control, *Road Rage, *Technology that should be undone because of how lazy it has made us, *disgusting people (from nose pickers to women peeing on public toilet seats!)*the horrors of grocery shopping.

It was a great first book and I can't wait to read her next one!

When I checked out this book from the library, I was very excited about reading it. When I actualy read it, I was very sorry that I even wasted my time trying to track this book down. First of all, He spends too much time talking about his childhood, that simply has no meaning. It is also some confusing parts about his exit of the Black Panthers. In his comrade Elaine Brown's "Taste of Power", Brown states that Bobby Seale was kicked out of the Black Panther Party, but Bobby Seale ends the book, that he left instead of being thrown out. This is just one of the most dreadful books that I have read in a long time.

Written in 1978 after bobby had left the party, this account fills in all the gaps in bobby's life. His childhood experiances that shape his life into who he would later become are so essential in understanding seale. His stories will not be given away by me cause this story speaks very well for itself. Sorry but there is not to much to say if you dug sieze the time, or even if you didn't. If you are interested in african americans who fought hard for social justice, this book is key. Seale is a great story teller, you wont just find ideological essay's here,...Great book, needs to be back in print.

while it has a great idea this is easily among the worst books I've read.

the art is decent but not manga-like, it's much more western in style. the characters are shallow and undeveloped along with the many short stories that take place as they aimlessly wander from place to place with seemingly no purpose other than to enforce bad cliche justice.

the art is hard to follow from panel to panel and the story seems as though it's been written by a fourth grader.

Color of Rage has a nice cover and compelling premise. African man meets Japanese renegade and they go traipsing off together in search of their destiny. The stories reveal little backstory, and not much future either. The stories are pretty intriguing but never fully develop their potential. The lack of real character development leaves these rebel samurais a little hollow and hinders interest. While there's lots of action, this reads like the dime westerns of the fifties and readers today may crave a more spicy sojourn than a PG 13 tale. If there had been a stronger plot instead of just the wandering short story format, this might have worked better. Pick up an old Conan comic for more impact, or watch a samurai film for the true flavour of Japanese adventure...

A good Samurai story...

If you like Lone Wolf & Cub or Path of the Assassin, you should like this series. It's a one-volume story.

Without going into the specifics of the story, the artwork is sketchy but drawn well, just like Lone Wolf & Cub although the words aren't as small as Lone Wolf and Cub which was a plus.

What's unusual about this manga is that it has a black man in the story living & fighting along with a Japanese man. The Japanese man teaches the black man how to live in Japan and about their culture as they go through towns to survive.

I thought it was real interesting and a great read. Bit different than most Samurai mangas I've read.

I rated it 4 stars because I thought it was a great series to read, although not the best manga I've read. In my opinion the best Samurai mangas are: Vagabond, Blade Of the Immortal, Lone Wolf & Cub and so forth. This series rates behind them, still a great read!

Dentist Kenneth Taylor murders his wife Teresa 4 months after she gives birth to their first child and then drives for several days with her body in the trunk. This author had Taylor's cooperation and tries to give the story from the father's point of view. Even though Taylor cooperated with the author it couldn't dredge any sympathy for him. The real trouble starts when Taylor, after he is convicted, has his parents take the child back to their home and illegally adopt him to keep him from his wife's sister. It was almost two books in one book. I have also read In a Child's name by Peter Maas for the same story and found that book compelling also.

A good read, however, there are many references to other criminal cases for comparison. A crime buff would enjoy this, but the casual reader may not. More pictures for reference would have been interesting, but again, all in all, a good read. I would recommend it.

Perhaps I bought a beta version of this novel (After all, the cover fell off before I started reading, and the teaser page breaks off mid-sentence). That would explain the preponderance of rookie mistakes in a veteran writer's novel.

This book is phenomenally bad. It is weak writing like this which gives science fiction a bad image. The worst is Philip Jose Farmer has written many good books and stories. Where did he go wrong?

To begin, the story centers on a form of psychology that uses Farmer's World of Tiers series to resolve personality problems in teenagers (This is apparently based on an actual test study). But Farmer's first misstep is in letting his characters slavishly praise his literary genius--over and over. Second, the dialogue is unbelievable. When father and son are arguing, they take time to list as many nasty names as they can come up with (e.g. "you drunken bum, hopeless welfare case, parasite, loafer, loser"). This doesn't display anger. It displays bizarre and casual forethought. Third, while the pocket universes are a fascinating concept the description is awkwardly done. Too many things in Anathema, the first of several worlds explored by Orc, smell and taste "like rotten potatoes," and having Orc rhapsodise (aka explain to the reader) that the kamanbur are a genetically engineered mix of dog, monkey, spider, and termite should be unnecessary.

Then there is the overall confusing sensation of whether or not _Red Orc's Rage_ is in fact supposed to be the long-awaited WOT book that every character seems to wonder about while seething irony. It is very disconcerting to read about Farmer writing about a character thinking about Farmer himself. As with much of this book, it could be clever, but it hasn't quite gotten there.

This book was previously released years ago as "Wild Thunder". The only thing new here is the dull looking cover and the new "Savage Rage" title. The actual book cover mentions this fact in tiny print at the bottom. I'm writing this so others won't make the same mistake I did, thinking this is a new Cassie book. It's Not! Unless you're collecting Cassie's books for the title alone, save your money and skip this book. Wild Thunder gets 5 stars. This rip-off retitled copy would get zero if I could only do it...

All the Rage is a collection of early reviews from William Logan, 'the most hated man in poetry.' Though with this collection it is tough to see why. Most of the reviews are fair and pretty accurate reviews. He doesn't get too rough on the poets, though you can see in some of the later reviews where his reputation as a tough reviewer begins. Over all most of the reviews were done in an uninteresting way, but then Logan himself admits that this is all the apprentice reviews that he wants to save. The collection starts off with an essay "The Prejudices of Aesthetics" which is interesting. The center essay is a poorly written essay on Auden ("Auden's Images"). One of the more interesting pieces of the collection is the interview with Logan at the end of the book. Otherwise there are reviews, some written poorly and others well written. As to his reputation as the most hated man in poetry, I'll have to read his later reviews to see where it comes from. This book is interesting as a history of William Logan, but nothing that demands to be on your shelf.

Good, Not as Strong as "Brilliant in Chrome"
Helpful Votes: 3 out of 3 total.

This is the third collection of short science-fiction stories from Phobos, and they have a good eye for emerging talent, but this collection underscores the need for more writers producing more good ideas. They essentially admit as much in the afterword.

The stories in this collection are mostly strong, but none of them really light up the place like some in the earlier collection, "Absolutely Brilliant in Chrome".

I recommend this to anyone who wants to invest in supporting new voices in SF, but if you just want a quick thrill, read the first two books instead.
