Unfortunately, I found this book to be NOT very authentic as to the Balinese experience either from the native or tourist side. The plotline and dialogue are laughable and the characters very unlikeable and too broadly drawn.

Sorry, it just seemed like a second rate screenplay. For how bad it was, it was suprisingly stonger on its coverage of Bali than you would expect, but in the end, it indulged in a tone too much like Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure.

A must read for travelers (real and armchair) to Bali

An insightful look at Bali and the Balinese people before thetourist boom. Anyone who has been to Bali or who plans to travelthere should read this book to begin to understand the culture of Bali and how the Balinese balance their their beautiful, unique culture with the demands placed on them by tourism on their island. This is a novel, yes, but anyone who reads it will recognize the realities.

What a ride this book goes on. She is so descriptive you feel like you are part of the group. Sometimes perhaps a bit to descriptive, but all in all you just have to know what happens next.

This book must have been written by a 5 year old because it was wretched. I couldn't even get past the middle. How does crap like this get published? I borrowed this book from a friend and threw it out in the trash. no stars!

My interest in NN/GA started 3 years ago and I found this book. It covers some advanced methods for trading. But I am not sure whether they are really better than the traditional technical analysis. The results in this book could not prove it. And some authors didn't disclose their methods clearly. It seems to be very common among people who are using NN/GA/fuzzy logic in trading. So it is hard to know the reliability and accuracy of their results. And we cannot repeat their experiments. Personally, I won't use them in trading. I also gradually lose the interest in this area. I would like to know anyone really made profit by using them.

What good is this book withut tradestation code. Eventually you will not use it and will set on your book shelf collecting dust. I suspect the author knows how to program and all other author like him. Topics studied in MS computer science software courses leave it to programers to write, since they are qualified than those who don't know how, But can do research ans sell a book to excited hope to be traders.

Covers a lot.

Discusses financial applications of neural networks, genetic algorithms and fuzzy logic. Is aimed at the beginner to intermediate level. Focuses more on data processing and application than on the actual building of neural nets. Several useful examples are given. Sections are written by experts in that particular field. This is usually advantageous except ocassionally where terminology may not always be consistent between sections. Overall a good book if you know how to write your own NN/GA/FUZZY program or have access to one.

Review Date: 1998-09-20
I was interested in purchasing a book about hiking the Juan de Fuca trail. Certainly, I thought a book with the name of the trail in the title would be a fountain of information. I didn't even get a drinking fountain of facts. Basically, the hikers were too tired and the weather was too stormy to do anything but hike a few miles of the 29 mile trail. LAME! Either hike the trail and give information on it or leave the trail name off the title of the book. If you are looking for information on the Juan de Fuca trail DO NOT buy this book!

P.S. Selling slightly used book, CHEAP!

Poor Misrepresentation

This book travels through many a philosophy with a complacent and simple view intact. This is well and good for instruction, but not for a proper challenge of such philosophies. If one would wish to challenge the philosophy, one would first be requisited to note that with every major philosophical perspective refering to morality a man may find many facets and dimentions. This book seems to take the perspective that everything falls into dualistic definition based on proper negation of the logical converse. This is the poster-book of the fallacious strawman argument.

This book is a good start for students and teens looking to find help in challenging days with challenging questions. It takes a unique approach with each chapter. They start with a chatroom experience; and then moves on to the daily life of a particular individual; reflections from that person; and then personal challenges. Anyway, I think it's a good approach and will be helpful to a lot of students.

No tips on how to avoid embarrasing skid marks!
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2005-12-22
Hard to believe this book on grooming contains no tips on how young men can avoid embarassing skid marks. Nothing turns a woman off faster than seeing those brown marks on a man's underwear just before getting it on! The problem? It is impossible to clean your ass with just paper. Paper leaves a residue that allows bacteria or fungus to flourish. This can result in undesired itching, odor and the possibility of inflammation or infection. And skid marks! No matter how much shampoo, hair cream, deodorant, toothpaste, after shave, manicure a man uses, the only way to avoid this most embarrasing and unhygienic of scourges is to wash one's ass after toilet use with a bidet.

I really want to write a good review of this book. Unfortunately, I can't. This book is simply a reprint of the grooming articles from the publisher's website, sharpman.com. The only advantage I can see to getting the book is that you have all the articles in one place, with no need to boot up your computer. That's what saved it from getting only 1 star.

Another Sean Dillon story

Review Date: 2005-05-02
This is a fast moving story, with lots of action and superficial details. It is not great literature, but provides some light brain candy. Lots of bodies are left lying around as people are killed by various means (shooting, drowning, incineration, torture, falling off a roof).

An Arab fanatic, annoyed by U.S. and Russian oil interests exploiting his country, decides on a high profile assassination. Nothing seems to work out for the bad guys, but some of the British ended up wounded.

The story has an interesting ending with a very rich woman with a grudge, biding her time, and planning to spend portions of her wealth to get revenge. It brings to mind Matilda of Flanders (wife of King William I) who, spurned by a Saxon nobleman when she was a teenager, waited 20 years until William conquered England, then tracked down the Saxon and had him thrown into a dungeon.

I don't know who is worse- Higgins or Macnee. The plot is so tranparent you can guess what is coming next. Completely implausible. Macnee's narration is so overdone it is laughable. Most of the time the characters do little more than quaff enormous amounts of Bushmills Irish Whisky. A real stinker. Wayne Schwartz, Los Angeles, CA

Look. I can't really disagree with the other reviews. However, I enjoyed this book. If you, as have I, read every Sean Dillon book in the series you will enjoy spending a few hours with these characters who have become so familiar after so many years. Great literature? Not a chance. A good read for fans of Jack Higgins? Definitely!!!!

Horrible

This is my first Jack Higgins book and it will certainly be my last. Especially if, as the reviews state, it is the best Higgins book in a long time.

The characters are never developed. The way the book begins, you think that the Rashid's are the good guys, and Dillin is the bad guy. Then all the sudden, without developing the characters, the roles are switched. You end up not caring who dies (and 6 billion people die in this book...a little overkill) and who lives.

The "adventures" are similar to Dora the Explorer in how boring they are. They are very predictable, and of course, Dillin is killing 50 people and no one can kill him. Just ridiculous scenes.

Don't get this book, despite the "reliablity" of the author.

Worst of theYear...or, maybe the decade

Where did the real Jack Higgins go? This is not only Higgin's worst effort to date, it is probably the worst book I've read in the past 5 years. (Can you say 'lazy', Jack?)

I can't believe I actually finished it, and one star is a generous rating. Unbelievable chapter after unbelievable chapter, no character or plot development, written like a 5th grader.

The end of the book foretells a sequel...a book that I will immediately pass on. Probably my last Higgins book without reading the reviews first.

Don't buy it -- don't borrow it -- don't read it.

The plot setup takes too long to get a good mystery or combat scenario (which is part mystery, as in _Hunt for Red October_) going. What results then is a sick daytime TV-style romp through the lives and drama of these characters, but it's halfhearted, as are the few combat scenes. The technique of using multiple characters to tell a story falls flat. I would not recommend this book to anyone.

Quite possibly the worst book I've ever read. The only reason I read it was a twenty hour flight with no other options. The french quotes are the worst though, they make no sense and are misspelled and grammatically abysmal. Stay away at all cost!

This is one of the worst books I have ever read. I enjoy reading Tom Clancy and perhaps that is why I saw the book all the way to the end. The book starts off slow and then ends way to quickly. I had gotten 2/3 through the book when I read the back cover and discovered that none of that had happened yet.
I would not recommend this book to anyone. It is poorly written and is comparable to an extremely low budget film.

Very boring book. It almost went in the trash.

This book is definitely one of the two worst Clancy books I have ever read, maybe even of all of the books I have ever read. It takes about half of the book to get to any real action except for the starting material. About the first half of the book is worthless material that almost makes you forget whether the starst of the book was really in this book or not.
As another reviewer said, the kidnapping of Gordian's daughter (mentioned on the back cover of the book) Does not happen until near the end of the book. In fact, I checked and it happens at almost exactly the 4/5 point.
At one point in the book, there is a long section about the group in Africa, yet after that the people are almost never mentioned.
Also, once the kidnapping takes place, the kidnappers are found rather quickly. You would think that they would take some precautions to at least delay being found. But really, what smart criminal would let the dog breeder/seller come right to his hideout? Give me a break!
I would definitely not recommend this book. It is trash and not worth your time. Try "Power Plays; Cold War" it is not to bad of a book.

One of the best is that Cassidy points out that the difference between the individual stock vs. the overal market and the sector are important. This may seem simplistic but I know many who do not buy best in their group and ignore this message that is droned in thru IBD and others. Here Cassidy shows how the volume should be corresponding, ie. porportional as most of the indices are made of the individuals on a percentage basis but when it's not, it hints that true buyers and sellers, not the ETFs and such are buying and selling...the invdividual stock not the index but I think more and more the ETF is getting the nod as more and more people are scared of inidivudla stock action...Cassidy helps there. Good luck, Remy.
