While the PnP (Pen and Paper)and the online computer game version of Everquest is unknown to me. I do know Dungeons and Dragons D20 system.
From the first thing I looked at you could tell someone had to put alot of time into the planning of these monsters. Being a epic book in scope, this planar location/adventure sourcebook is very informative and original. It will be a very awesome addition to my regular gaming group. Frankly, I'm suprised something Everquest caught my attention like this. If your a Dungeon Master with some high level players this is a nice addition.

Congradulations to the writers and to White Wolf for a quality product.

The character Malocchio Aderre was intrigueing, I found, being a son of two beings of magic. His ability to infinately use a number of spells gives him powers any DM would enjoy to play, because it can give the players a tough time, which is where plot design comes into play. Malocchio cannot be defeated easily in combat, but the adventurers should still be able to accomplish their task and drive him off. The scene with the lycanthrope fighting pit was, I found, quite difficult to pull off, and the virtual reality Vistani boothe was stupid (I went around it).

This book continues White Wolf's line of "splatbooks", smaller sourcebooks which take a subdivision of playable characters and expand upon them. Ideally for the player, this means they have new insight into a character type. Ideally for White Wolf, this means people will buy the book. All cynicism aside, though, this one actually IS quite good. A small note beforehand makes it clear why worship of Mela, the Air dragon, is most widespread among those who worship the five immaculate dragons. And the characters themselves are largely interesting. Medalus is something of an exception, mind, but he has an interesting family background. The others, though, manage to have interesting personalities or plot hooks: Kes is a gateway (read: chess) master, super-spy, and idle noble with the best of intentions. Arada is a general who once could have become emperor after the empress disappeared, soured on the Realm. Elana and Kasif are likewise workable characters, with plot developments in the near future that would be fascinating, if they were actual player characters.

I highly suggest this book, if you want to look at the Exalted Splats. The game as a whole, though, comes highly recommended from me, so I may be biased.

Exalted is my favorite setting from White Wolf, and after years of waiting and wondering what the First Age truly had to offer its inhabitants, now we get a glimpse of the grandeur and power that existed before the Usurpation. The ideas this accessory spawned for my own games as innumerable and I can't wait to put some of these ideas in motion for my players! I highly recommend this boxed set to Exalted fans everywhere, it's got just what you've been looking for!

Lots of cool stuff in here

There's a lot of neat stuff in here. I've always thought Halta was a pretty cool place, and this book really fleshes it out and brings it to life (no surprise there).

There's information on the ruling government, judicial system, military (Haltan commandos rock), and also just plain old daily life. There's info on local spirits, and Fair Folk.

The usual extra Manses, Demesnes, artifacts and items.

But here's the real kicker. It tells you just how the Bull of the North crushed the Tepet Legions. If you want to know that, you're going to need to at least read through this book, but the whole of it is pretty damn good, so you may as well just buy it!

Story Kit for Exalted
Helpful Votes: 10 out of 10 total.

While Time of Tumult was released prior to the creation of large swathes of the Exalted world, it still stands up to these new pieces. The book is designed for use by Storytellers (GMs, DMs, whatever you want to call them.), and shows off four adventures that are very different in genre.

The first and second adventure deal with a location called The Invisible Fortress, getting there and discovering its secrets. It combines elements of exploration with a ghost story, and accomplishes both.

The third adventure deals with the kidnapping of a powerful spirit's lover, and his request is that the players get her back alive. Along the way, you see the underbelly of Exalted's Celestial Bureaucracy and haggle with spirits. It's a classic tale of saving the damsel in distress.

The fourth and final story can only be described as a war epic. Invaders from beyond Creation are conducting a crusade in the name of the Machine God (they live inside it). It introduces a new kind of Exalted, the Alchemicals, and provides a timeline that goes on for years in the game world.

While Exalted is designed to be modular, Time of Tumult stands as a sampling of the adventures that can be had in the Exalted game world. I would heartily recommend it to any Storyteller wanting to run Exalted.

More Weird and Wacky Stuff
Helpful Votes: 7 out of 7 total.
Review Date: 2003-09-24
And I thought Arsenal was wonderful...Factory surpasses even that by offering more of the same in a different venue. Whereas Arsenal came out before d20 Modern, Factory has suggestions on integrating itself with d20 Modern to make a more complete settings as well as give even more options for say an Urban Arcana game. If you combine Arsenal and Factory you essentially have Shadowrun d20 and that's not a bad thing. Factory gives us examples of robots as well as some idea of making your own. Technomagic is the buzz word with this book even moreso than its elder brother Arsenal. Computers get a similar treatment with dizzying ideas on hacking. Enchanted cyberware is also included with a tongue-twisting name but some good ideas here. Quite similar in some respects to Dragonstar's spellware but this is more convergent evolution I'm sure. All in all there is a lot here to like and play with. Good ideas and their integration with d20 Modern is a plus which gives adequate cause to recommend this book quite highly.
