These cards are gorgeous and any Mutts fan would love to receive these. I gave them to my 7 year old daughter for her birthday and she loved them. Some of the designs are a little confusing, but most of them are just amazing...I almost wanted to frame them for art in her room, but she just wanted to start sending them!

This book is a wonderful collection for any Mutts fan. The Mutts comic strip is so refreshing with it's delightfully uncomplicated main characters, Earl and Mooch, who want nothing but to love and be loved, and perhaps get a handout from the Fatty Snax man. Their simple outlook on life is a welcome retreat from the hustle and bustle of today's world. Even the artwork is clean and uncluttered. Some of the "stories" in this collection are simple one-liners, and some cover several pages. Some are funny, and others are simply sweet and heartwarming. Mutts is the perfect comic for any cat or dog lover, as the loveable idiosyncracies of each are highlighted here in a way that's sure to bring a smile to the reader's face. This or any of the other Mutts comic books would make a perfect treat for yourself or gift for a cat/dog-loving friend.

WONDERFUL! Be prepared to laugh until the tears roll down your face. If possible start with this book and read the books in sequence to be introduced to each of the characters. Besides...the books are all wonderful so ENJOY!
If you appreciate animals you can't help but love Mutts. Patrick McDonnell has captured human and fuzzy characteristics to perfection. He obviously appreciates and delights in the special qualities of all the species that share this world and
recognizes our responsibilities to them as well as to ourselves.
And he shares all of that in a uniquely delightful way.

"Mutts" is off to the best start possible.

I will keep this short and simple. The first volume of "Mutts" by Patrick McDonnell is simply the best comic strip since "Bloom County." This book was touching, funny, and cute. It took me to that special place where life is cozy and beautiful. If Mr. McDonnell can keep this strip going at a high level of quality like this first volume, then I will plan on reading "Mutts" for the rest of my life.

Eris Stole My Sanity and Played Basketball With It

Review Date: 2002-07-24
A refreshing look of religion, beliefs and ethics formed from a giant collage of chaos. Malaclypse The Younger avoids running around his ideas and giving hints to the reader. Instead he forces a reader into a head dive sucking him into his world. A true work of poetic terrorism.

To some this might seem as an explanation for just another religion, to others a blasphemy and a selected few as a whole new way of approaching the world. This book is a must have for any chaos magician, a big giant sigil designed to awaken your mind.

CAUTION: After purchasing this book expect Eris to play head games with you and tasting chaos early in the morning.

NOTE: Principia Discordia and Principia Discordia or How I Found Goddess And What I did To Her When I Found Her are the same book except for a special afterword and a collage found at the end in the later book. Of course Eris did not inform me of this and I bought both. Twice the fun.

This is either one helluva pun or it's some divine knowledge or something... I laughed, cried, and hit myself in the eye. Taking a stand back from the hype: this book isn't a joke. It can lead to some very confronting issues such as: the ambiguity of belief, the need for dogma and many other "shattering" realizations. I don't feel that a proper review can be written for this book--it is too stupid, profound and obscure. Pegging this book down is like kicking a hyena in the face for laughing.

Scriptures of Chaos

Review Date: 2003-07-01
These profound scriptures come close to rivalling James Robinson's edition of the Nag Hammadi Library as the most important contribution to 20th century metaphysics. And not only for those who consider Discordianism as a form - albeit a weird one - of Gnosticism. Certain passages are more inspiring than others, like "The Enlightenment Of Zarathud" and Lord Omar's "Epistle To The Paranoids", although only the orthodox version of the latter appears here. According to the Samaritan Codex and the Octuagint there is an additional verse which reads: "Ye build high buildings, only to cast yeself from the roofs." The same Codex (but not the Octuagint) also contains "The Epistle To The Neurotics" by St. Euthanasius that sadly didn't make it into this edition. These minor gripes aside, I do recommend this work to all those who are searching for the meaning of life, the universe and everything. Eris, goddess of Chaos, is ready, willing and able to help you. For more information about spirituality and chaos, read Peter Carroll's Liber Kaos or Liber Null And Psychonaut. And if you appreciate this type of humour, you will love the work of Robert Anton Wilson.

I've had this book in Korean for quite some time now. I would routinely translate it for my friends to their great amusement. The Korean version is much more frank in the subject matter, though. The title is literally "Who pooped on my head?" with numerous explicit jokes as to the material at hand. When I saw the English title of "The Story of the Little Mole who went in Search of Whodunit" along with all the other euphemisms within the book itself that allude to poop, but won't outright say it, I was not only disappointed in the book, but also in the antiseptic American way of life.

At any rate, not the fault of the author. I'm sure the editors made him do it. Still a great book that my daughter has loved for a long time.

Softer Hero for A Murder Mystery

Review Date: 2008-02-21
Thor McGraw and the Ice Man Murder by T. Drennan presents the most unlikely of sleuths: a single father academic type with allergies to cats and perfume and is still love sick over his ex-wife. Oh yeah, and he happens to be the son of one of Boston's most famous police detectives.

The bulk of the excerpt introduces us to Thor and his life. His morning routine of breakfast with Bree (Sabrina), his 6-year-old daughter, is interrupted by an impossible next door neighbor. Thor's allergic reactions are detailed to Mrs. Plum's perfume and cat, and I except they'll play an important role later. Then a phone call from his ex, Molly, to apologize for a reference to Thor in Philip's ('Philip? Who was Philip?') article in today's paper. Unfortunately Thor can't read it because 'his' paper is covered in mud from Mrs. Plum's garden.

Once the interruptions are over, he moves on with his day. Thor drops Bree off at school and heads to his teaching job. When he goes for his jog after the first class, he is ruthlessly chased by a bald man in a Cutlass, who then unleashes a Rotweiller on Thor. What did he do to deserve this?

With Thor and most of the main characters introduced, the mystery is set to unfold. This excerpt was both an engaging example of 'regular guy' character development and intriguing murder mystery. I can't wait to see what happens next.

Sweet and Solid Main Character

The start of this excerpt highlights a fantastic family relationship. The easy connection between Thor and his daughter Bree is nice to read about, and I like the communication that passes between Thor and his dog, as well. This seems like a happy home, despite the hint of something amiss with Thor's wife.

The interaction between Thor and Mrs. Plum was interesting and infuriating. I like that Thor is completely baffled by the way she manages to work everything around to her advantage, and I am curious about the favors she will ask Thor to do in return for the ones she has done for him in this first meeting.

Molly's conversation with Thor is painful, especially as we realize that she is moving on with her life and leaving Thor pining after her. Some nice suspense is built up as I wondered what it was that would have landed Thor's name in the paper.

The scene of the bald man trying to run down Thor is exciting and tense, although the foreshadowing of it is a bit heavy-handed. Peter saying a big bald guy with a broken nose was looking for Thor and then announcing that he told the man that Thor always goes running in between classes meant I wasn't terribly surprised to find a car bearing down on Thor during his run.

This excerpt is intriguing. I'd be eager to learn more about Thor's mystery situation and to see if things work out between him and Molly.

The spiritual lessons available have life-altering capabilities. Long after one puts the book down, the truths remain as well as a smile from his escapades. Bravo! It will be given as Christmas gifts to my dearest friends.

Mark Steele's book is very funny with a lot of different life stories to keep you laughing and get a point across. His main goal is to let the reader see how he used to do things to gain popularity and for his own benefit, under the guise of working for God.

Instead we see how he learns to take changes and really give up himself for others. Most of these epiphanies come during mission trips where he's completely out of his comfort zone.

The book is very entertaining. The message is decent though I would have preferred more practical ways that we can change our own lives. Instead we see how his own life experiences have changed his life. It's much closer to an autobiography with a message of humility and taking chances.

Flashbang is a humorous look at life and Christianity. It is entertaining, but it also has substance.

The book consists of various situations in the author's life, a humorous look at them, and a spiritual application. It is pretty subtle at times, but the point is made. The writing style is a bit disjointed and is a bit of an acquired taste.

The common theme addressed is that Christians aren't and don't need to be perfect. They just need to trust the Lord more to do His work. It is good, but certainly not great.

Entertaining and Pursposeful

This book came highly recommended to me and it has exceeded my skeptical expectations. I love how Steele takes the lion share of the beginning of each chapter to recount hilarious personal stories and then takes the last few pages of each chapter to make challenging applications that I did NOT see coming. I have been so entertained and challenged- an unusual combination- by this book. The result is that I am now more challenged to live a life that will leave a lasting effect and NOT just a life that makes me FEEL like I am doing things that matter. Read it, you will love it!

This is by far the funniest book for children that I've read in a while-- and as the mother of a five-year-old, I read a lot of children's books. Reading this, I was reminded of the fun that I had when I first heard Shel Silverstein's "Where The Sidewalk Ends" when I was a child.

Probably the highest endorsement it can receive, though, comes from my son, who laughed so hard that he said, "It's so funny, I feel like I'm going to vomit."

The poetry is easy and unforced, funny and a wonderful experience. I hope Rex Adams writes and illustrates more and more and more. I'll be waiting!! 5 stars!!

I'm far from the level of alcoholic that Rich talks about, but alcohol is incorporated into my lifestyle, and I really enjoyed this book. The chapters are fairly short with short paragraphs, and the book altogether moves rather quickly and stays entertaining. As someone who usually gets bored by the end of a book, this was not a problem for me. I would recommend this to anyone who drinks even casually as a fun read.

This book is so good its scary. Its not just about drinking (though it is primarily about drinking) it's about a true "seize the day" mentality and damn the torpedoes! It's a "Dangerous Book for Boys" that may actually be dangerous.
Packed with useful tidbits about bar etiquette and what it means to be a drinker, as well as a clear love of the history of libations and those who choose to partake of them.
And joy to read over and over and share with friends.

This is an excellent book but I was a little disappointed to see that it was mostly recycled material. I am a subscriber to the Modern Drunkard magazine and it seems this paperback is a collection of their most amusing articles and such.

Nevertheless, it's absolutely worth purchasing, especially for those of you whom are not aware of the magazine's existance. It is laugh-out-loud funny, informative (believe-it-or-not) and encouraging for those of us who continue to lead a shameless life of debauchery.

Russell Fink seems to be going through the motions of life but
not really living it. He's got everything anyone could want - a good
job, a really beautiful fiancé, good family and lots of friends, but he feels empty. What is his mission? Russell wakes up one day to find his trust-worthy companion, Sonny, is dead. Yes, he was very old, but foul play is suspected. Russell is now on a mission to find Sonny's killer...even if it's the last thing he does. Things become clear to him as he searches for clues. Does he really love the woman that he is engaged to? He has been dating her so long it's just become a habit. Do they have anything in common? Russell goes to the doctors so much that he and his doctor know each other by their first names. His doctor asks him "Why don't you get a job you really like so you can see me less?" Russell didn't think his doctor was paying attention to how many times he was seeing him a week. After all, he was in there this time because he
thought a mole he had was changing color. Wouldn't his doctor be glad
that he was taking care of his body? Russell wakes up and starts
living his life instead of watching it go by. No one is ready for
that - not even Russell.

This book is funny, unpredictable and entertaining, while at the same time, about Russell looking at the serious things of life. You will never
look at life the same after reading this book. You will start looking for guys like Russell in your own life and try not to laugh!! There is a fun interview in the back of the book with author Michael Snyder that will crack you up! He explains that he really isn't Russell and other important questions you want to know about the author. Discussion questions follow the interview and you get a sneak peek into the next book that will be out by Michael entitled 'Return Policy" due out in December 2008. You'll want to check that out for more laugh-out-loud fun!!

Michael Snyder has just published my NEW Favorite "Christian" Novel.
I have a problem labeling anything as "Christian". I only do so here because you are going to want to read this book and it can only be found in the "Christian" section of your local bookstore.

This is the type of book you give to friends that don't like to read, because you know if they read this one, it will turn them into a bookworm!

"Russell Fink" is a ton of fun. It has everything you would want in a book... Mystery, Humor (and lots of it), a bit of Fear, a touch of Romance, and a clairvoyant dog.

From the Back Of The Book: "Russell Fink is twenty-six years old and determined to salvage a job he hates so he can finally move out of his parents' house for good. He's convinced he gave his twin sister cancer when they were nine years old. His crazy fiancee refuses to accept the fact that their engagement really is over.
Then Sonny, his allegedly clairvoyant basset hound, is found dead.
The ensuing amateur investigation forces Russell to confront several things at once-the enormity of his family's dysfunction, the guy stalking his family, and his long-buried feelings for a most peculiar love interest.
At it's heart, My Name Is Russell Fink is a comedy with sharp dialogue, characters steeped in authenticity, romance, suspense, and fresh humor. With a postmodern style similar to Nick Hornby and Douglas Copeland, Snyder explores reconciliation, forgiveness, and faith in the midst of tragedy. No amount of neurosis or dysfunction can derail God's redemptive purposes."

Snyder has a HUGE talent for writing and I can't wait for his next book!

I just finished reading My name is Russell Fink and I have to tell you this is one of the more bizarre novels I have read this year and Micheal Snyder has to be an amazingly interesting person to have written such a fun novel his first time out. I found this book refreshing and fun. The novel is packed with quirky characters and crazy twist. It is a little edgy at times for the Christian market but I truly enjoyed this Lad Lit and eagerly look forward for more wacky tales from this new author.

For a real treat be sure to read the Q&A with Micheal Snyder and the deleated scenes in the bonus section of the book.

Incredibly witty Christian fiction!

Michael Snyder's novel "My Name Is Russell Fink" is an eclectic mix of humor, mystery, pop-culture, suspense and God - not necessarily in that order. Russell Fink is a rather inept, but incredibly artistic, salesman and practiced hypochondriac with a really obnoxious girlfriend who refuses to let Russell break up with her, a crazy family and a completely wonderful, and supposedly clairvoyant, dog! When Sonny, his dog, is murdered, Russell must find Sonny's killer.

This incredibly witty novel is "The Office" meets Rene Gutteridge. I love the details put into this publication: from the rave reviews for the novel on the back cover written by several of the characters, to the page flip cartoon in the lower right corner of the text. The sense of humor of those responsible for putting this book together is evident - literally - from cover to cover. I am also a sucker for discussion questions, and these are incredibly fun. They almost make me want to start a discussion group!

I really enjoyed the book. It is rare to find a book in the "Christian" genre that doesn't have an agenda, other than to be entertaining. I was so happy to read a very funny, witty, sarcastic book about a truly squirly guy. If there was an agenda, it might have been to show that life is messy, but they Gospel is real. But it did so in a non-preachy way, that just seemed a little quirky like Northern Exposure or Pushing Daisies. Infinitely better than that silly little book on Amazon's top 10 - "The Shack"... You won't leave this book needing a detox.

The Strength of a Sparrow by Tim `Dr. Hope' Anders is based on the true story of his mother and father. Bouvette Sherwood, a successful producer and actress of New York Broadway, meets Hughie Hewitt, a Catholic priest. The two soon fall madly in love. There is just one problem though, Hughie, due to him being a Catholic priest, is unable to marry and start a family. Will Huighie and Bouvette be able to work things out?
This is a wonderful book. I enjoyed it immensly. The true story of the author's parents pulls you in and makes you wonder what will happen next. This book is inspiring, it sends the message that you should never give up on what you want the most. Included in the back of this book are pictures of his mother and father. The pictures really help you connect with the story.

This work of fiction is based on the love story of Bouvette Sherwood and Father Hughie Hewitt, parents of the author. She is a much younger, successful Broadway producer and actress and he, well, he is an alcoholic priest. Not exactly a match made in heaven. According to the Monsignor of Hewitt`s parish, it is an abomination against heaven and he does everything in his power to bring it to an end, including hiring a private detective for several years to record the activities of one woman and a priest. The sole motivation being he wants to be made a Bishop and Hewitt's activities would be most embarrassing to the church if discovered. If all of this is really based in truth, it is an incredible tale of Monsignor Smith's dispicable actions against Father Hughie and his beloved, seemingly without a care as to the consequences. Father Hughie is said to be a wonderful man who loved his vocation but he also loved Bouvette. This is where the soulful torment should enter the story.

Tim Anders is the author of several children's books but has been so captivated by his mother's story, that he finally decided to put it on paper. The "facts" come from what his mother told him in many conversations during his youth. It's a little stretch of the imagination that she actually described the steamy sex scenes. I guess no one will know if some of these remembrances are fully factual or fanciful. It would be most interesting to know if the church's actions were true but in the light of recent revelations, it very well could be possible. Who knows for sure?

Although Anders has a fluid style of writing with, at times, some wonderfully descriptive phrases, some of this struck me as akin to a Victorian melodrama. I feel that the characters could have been a little more fleshed out. More details as to Father Hughie's innermost thoughts and feelings during the time he and Bouvette were separated would have made for a better reading experience. It is a fast and easy read but somehow just misses the mark to being a great book. Rating: 3 ***

This was an amazingly good read, and I'm not a fan of love stories. OK, I did read "The Bridges of Madison County" and it was good. However, this book was better, and told a story that is more important in many ways. Tim Anders is a magnificent No Limit Texas Holdem poker player, who has taken all my chips on more than one occassion, but as an author, he has made me a richer man.

5 Stars, Bravo!!! I could not put the book down. It is a must read, a page turner. The story is a compelling love story between a very special lady that is full of life, love and her head on her shoulders kind of gal to a man of the church, Hughie. Their love conquered all time and forever lasts. The story is about the challenges of their love through the church and many obstacles that life throws at us. Thanks Tim for sharing your life with us.

If you love biographies as I do, this is an easy, fast read. It engages you from the beginning and entices you to keep turning pages and finish the story. Super passionate love story, peppered with the realities of life in the 40'sand 50's. Sobering to realize the prejudices against single motherhood and the lack of freedom that dedication to a religion can bring. Life is always about choice and consequence and how we handle all of it. Enjoyable read. Good book!
