good summary of Picasso's career
Helpful Votes: 0 out of 0 total.
Review Date: 2007-07-19
This book was very helpful as I was preparing to present Picasso's art to elementary school children. It takes a long, prolific career, and organizes the different periods of Picasso's art so that it is more succinct. The wording is very understandable yet not condescending for older readers. This is a great series for adults, like myself, trying to help children understand why an artist was so great.

Endless fun for girls!

This is a beautifully packaged (as only American Girl can do) kit containing a 52 page sketchbook, 3 paper dolls, 4 stencil sheets, 3 sticker sheets, 20 "jewels," 3 grams of sequins, 12" silk cord, 20 fabric sheets, 6 paper sheets, 1 sheet removable adhesive dots and 1 sheet of "doll handles." In other words, there is enough here to begin your child on a "career" as a paper doll creator! (Ladies, remember how much fun that was for us!)

With adult assistance, the is no doubt that girls will begin to go beyond what is contained here and utilize other materials purchased or around the house to engage in a wonderful new hobby!

Great hands-on introduction to art
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 1999-12-03
Does excellent job of introducing young children to different medias of art along with a few famous artists. Encourages hands-on without a lot of words. Good pictures and all in color. Short, only 32 pages so not overwelming to a child. Probably best for a 5-9 year old.

I took a perspective drawing class and was totally lost. After the semester ended, I purchased several books to gain a better understanding of the concept. Of all the books I purchased (6 to be exact) this was by far the best! The author clearly explains and illustrates each idea and concept step by step. It does not get any better than that. I Love this book!

Best Book On Philip L. Rhodes

Review Date: 2008-08-07
This is a deliciously informative book about one of the great giants of yacht design.

The book is well organized into periods and families of designs with a fine discussion of the origins of the design, how Rhodes came to be involved, how successful the boats were, and lots of information about their sailing characteristics, etc.

Interspersed is a detailed biography of the man and his career.

It is also accompanied by some of the drawings as well as specifications and lots of glorious pictures.

If you have a Rhodes yacht, or are interested in yacht design, this is a great book to own. Truly informative and fascinating, yet a great "coffee table" book as well.

Illustrated with black-and-white photographs and sketches throughout, Photographing Greatness: The Story of Karsh is the hardcover biography of Yousuf Karsh (1908-2002), an ethnic Armenian who immigrated to North America in the 1920s and settled in Ottawa, Canada. His fascination with and talent for photography led him to open his own studio; he eventually earned a reputation as the world's finest portrait photographer. He took immortal images of the world's most famous musicians, artists, actors, and politicians, and also dedicated himself to humanitarian work, particularly on behalf of sick children. Part of the "Stories of Canada" series, Photographing Greatness is an informed and informative biography detailing the life and times of successful career man and positive role model. Enthusiastically recommended for children's public and school library collections.

A "must read" for people who are interested in today's fashion. I am a fan of Mr. Cardin. Having worked with Mr. Cardin and his amazing crew for more than 3 years as house model in Paris before going to college, it's easy for me to understand why he is always a leader in fashion. This book documents his powerful journey so wonderfully!
