Definitely not for 9 year-olds! This is a book of lists and word games - trivia games, fill in the blanks, etc. Not stand-up-and-run-around games, but sit-down-and-write-the-answer games. For adults, might be fun, especially if you were into Trivial Pursuit. As a teaching tool or brain-teaser, OK. For a kids party, un-fun.

Cute, but better for older kids

I bought this to look for ideas for a 3 year old birthday party. A lot of the games are really adorable and I'm sure they're a lot of fun. Not too many of them are original ideas - just old ideas compiled in a book. This book will help me in the future...I'd say 5 year old to maybe 10 year old parties.

Since this book did not have any reviews, I was hesitant to buy it. Instead, I got the book from the library. I'm glad I did not buy this book. Many of the party ideas are so-so (a bit boring, if you ask me). The cakes are neat, but seem like they would be very labor intensive & probably would not end up looking as nice, as many of the recipes use fondant icing. I've never used fondant, so I'm sure any cakes I made using these recipes would be a recipe for disaster! I'm going to stick with some of the other books that have gotten higher reviews, including the Family Fun book, which has a ton of fun ideas.

Search and find

My kids and I have enjoyed the Young Puzzle Adventures books (like Chocolate Island, Dragon in the Cupboard and Land of the Lost Teddies) I was disappointed in this one, however, as it is pretty much a search and find book. The other books really make young kids use their minds. They may be using the process of elimination, or using clues to find a certain path. Spooks Surprise is comprised mostly of looking for ghosts. The story is OK, but doesn't warrant purchasing the book.

This book is a great tool for parents who worry they won't have enough activities to keep a bunch of crazy kids busy. If you're planning a birthday party, BUY THIS BOOK!!!

There a great many other party game books out there that have more content, more fun, and are a better deal than this ill-conceived title. I would recommend passing this book by and choosing something that gives you more for your money.

This is an aweful book and a waste of the paper it is printed on. The few pages that it has is duplicated for tear out sheets, and it has only 3 games in it. It is not the Best and I regret spending my money on it.

Nintendo has done a great job in reflecting and making a great status for the Mario Party game series. Yet, it is just a shame that they haven't made any strategy guide for these games, and let the third-party companies try their luck with these guides. Unfortunately, that is just a mixed grab bag. Prima's Mario Party 5 startegy guide a great display of all the different kinds of games there are to unlock for the Nintendo Gamecube classic. Although it does give a great job at portraying each game, it sometimes gripes about the use of turbo functions on third-party controllers other than Nintendo, and how you can makr and break so many different records. Which is unfortunate and constantly annoying, considering some third-party controller devices don't work very well for the Gamecube. Still, Prima's Mario Party 5 strategy guide gives a good sense of the game, when you don't have instructions for the game.

This book would be better sold as a book of jumbles, not shower games. I just don't think the game suggestions are useful at all.

This is a pretty good book for a resource for games. It isn't very thick, but it has a lot of pen-and-pencil activites. Some are old favorites, some are new ideas. It's a very nice, older book (the cover is quite 70s) but there are some good games in here! All it contains, though, is game ideas, 37 in all, about 1/2 baby and 1/2 bridal. If activity ideas are what you need, this would be a good book to check out

This book provides you with four pencil and paper games and they have duplicate copies provided for you, but they aren't very inventive. If I would have known what this book had, I would not have purchased it.

of paper. There are some good tips, but it is not fair to characterize this as a "full color book," and I am pretty irritated about it! Also, the "Boys' Book" and the "Girls' Book" are word for word identical in most places, only a couple of the suggested games are different. If you're just looking for a handy quick tips guide on throwing a kid's party, this would be great for you, but if you're looking for something more comprehensive, move on to another book!

Nothing Special

I bought several books for my daughters fairy party and I was very dissapointed with this one. For the most part, there is only one page for each section and then a full page picture. The illustrations look like children's drawings. Nothing wrong with that, just not my cup of tea. The sections are:

Intro
Fairies and Parties
Planning a Party
Party Themes
Food and Drink
Games
Music and Dancing
Decorations
Dressing Up
Fairy Tea Party
Evening Fairy Party

I was looking for specific ideas. There were a few sprinkled through out. However, there was very little I could actually use and most of it is just broad descriptions and ideas that I had seen elsewhere. There is one recipe, a fairy party cake. It's ok, but nothing that spectacular. It is easy to make though and does look good. It's just not something I would make.

The author sort of trying to weave in a story, but they didn't do a very good job. It seems like it was done as an afterthought and it all seems very childish.

The only section I really got anything out of was the games. There are five games, and they at least looked fun. They are Pass the Party Parcel, Fairy Godmother's Footsteps, Feathers, Dizzy Pixie and Musical Mushrooms. I do have to say that they seem more appropriate for younger children, and are perfect for my daughters second birthday. But the rest of this book was a waste of my time and money. I'll probably be returning it.

I reccomend these books instead ~
Fairy Cooking by Rebecca Gilpin, An Usborne Book;
Sweet Pea's Garden: Special Things to Make and Do by Cicely Mary Barker;
How to Host a Flower Fairy Tea Party by Cicely Mary Barker;
Fairy Crafts: 23 Enchanting Toys, Gifts, Costumes, and Party Decorations by Heidi Boyd

These books give you almost everything needed; costume ideas, food ideas, decorations, invitations, etc.
