The book Summer Party is by Cynthia Rylant. A quick summary of Summer Party is that three girls named Tess, Rosie, and Lily live in their Aunt Lucy's attic for the summer. At the end of the summer, the three girls plan a party for their family. They're at the party with Japanese Lanterns, entertainment, and fortunes. After the party, Michael, Aunt Lucy's boyfriend asks, "Aunt Lucy will you marry me?" I would give this book to my friend Renee because she loves the summer.

I purchase iron-on transfer books for the Comfort Blanket Ministry of St. Ferdinand Church. It is a blessing that such books are still available - we use these iron-ons for painting and marker coloring which ultimately become squares in our ministry's beautiful blankets. Keep selling these kinds of books, we'll keep buying them! This book is one of our very favorites!

What a great party we had. We made 1 cookie of each cookie cutter for each child to make. We read the story. The kids were on the edge of their seats the whole time we read the story. After that each child was able to eat 1 cookie and take the other 5 home. Everyone had a blast. I think next time we will do a scavanger hunt like the recommend. The whole party the way I did it only took about 1 hour to do.

What a fun and original book!
The ideas are great and it was not at all what I expected by the title. There are really creative and original ideas for everyday celebration and fun. This book is really creative and you can branch off to your own ideas. You will use this book often so keep it close at hand! :)

This is a great party book for folks with kids 10 and under. There are some games that can be adapted for older kids as well, but the crafts and themes would not work for most kids over the age of 11. Parent participation is a big part of making these partys work, so be plan your event accordingly. There are ideas here for block partys, olympics, and all kinds of holiday events.

for kids of all ages. There is a nice selection of recipes from
"junk food " to healthier selections that are still appealing to kids. I hosted the tea party for my 3 year old,s birthday .It went smoothly and was loads of fun!

I love this book. I borrowed this book from a friend and did not want to give it back--so I had to buy my own. I used the barnyard bash and everyone there thought I was so creative. I am very limited in time, being a working mom, and I pulled this party off the night before. Great book, creative ideas, highly motivational pictures. Great book altogether--backyard parties are now new and different!!

As far as the writing goes, I am not in the position to judge, as is (mrs?) Maya Blend Champion. I was responding to the persona of poor Peurto Rican Jew, and the pain that a parent must feel to find tha he/she has been written out of the family history in favor of an adopted identity. It made me think of Mary Austin, the subject of my own published writing, and how she reconciled with her mother only shortly before her death, then went on to spend the rest of her life as a self-styled desert woman who continued to try to work out her issues with her mother in her writing.

Dave Blend is a master writer. Funny, side-splitting and a hell of a guy, Dave makes me want to pack it up and move back home to Texas with his savory words about yummy BBQ! I can tell you that his book has also pleased many Alabamians. They take their tailgating mighty seriously down there, and his book has entertained my family and their friends. He has successfully pulled together the South and the Lone Star State into BBQ solidarity. We need to all go in on an RV, grab a little Salt Lick sauce, and watch some football. Thanks for this tome to BBQ and inspiring me to watch more Crimson Tide (and of course my Longhorns). If one can get me to watch football and like it... then that ONE is a great writer who should be showered with publishers, wanting all his novels.

This is a great book to use if your having a sleepover. It gives you tons of ideas for yummy treats, fun games, and cool decorations. I would buy this book right away if your going to have a sleep-over. For my 10th birthday I used this, and it was really helpful. Everyone really enjoyed making to treats. The only thing bad about this book is that it's not long enough!!!

First of all, i just want to say that i enjoy most of the American Girl library, and that this one is no different. The food sounds great[read the book and you'll understand TOTALLY what i mean]but i have not found much time to make any of it.
Still, they could have been abit more detailed. And i will admit some of the games were EXTREMELY pointless and immature for my agegroup.

Overall, reccomended for ages 8-11

this book is a must-read before and while planning any bachelor party. there are many books out there w/ sound advice on how to plan a bachelor party, but none w/ this kind of insight and humor. just like the title reads, from simple to sinful, all levels of bachelor gatherings are covered. and the approach and delivery of the material from playboy is unexpectedly mild-mannered and mature, even when advising on sinful extravaganzas. it is also very informative and full of helpful (and essential) information. this was my handbook throughout the planning process of my brother's bachelor party and i can say w/out a doubt that it paid off. i will consult this book again...

Extremely helpful

Exceptional!!! I'm in the process of planning a bachelor party for my son's best friend. My son can't email and despite being in a fraternity in college doesn't know much about beer and strippers. This book has helped tremendously. It has made my son look "hip" as well as articulate (we really like the part about making sure the grooms friends are divisble by four) The form emails are also helpful. The idea for giving each room a "theme" is also neat.

I highly recommend this book.

I picked this up after being asked to plan a bachelor party on only two days notice. They said they had so much fun that they'll never forget it. The book gives great tips on what works and what doesn't as well as giving strategies for planning a party on short notice and within a budget. It even goes into great depth about planning a party so that so everyone is happy including the bride-to be. The book taught me that a bachelor party is a rite of passage, so a party that would jeopardize that passage is not a good party. Also, a bachelor party is not just about strippers and naked women; there are plenty of activities that won't jeopardize relationships or morals. The book highly recommends learning the interests of the bachelor and working within his interests and the comfort of his fiance.

If I hadn't found this book, I wouldn't have been able to create such a wonderful time for my friends.

Not too bad but I found something better!!!

These books are ok, but if you want to take the hasle out of planning the night & do it all for less than doing it yourself just go to Armcandygirls.com they planned it all, we didnt have to negotiate or stand in lines, they did it all, for less than if we planned it all out ourselves ,just tell em what you want to do and they take care of it all and it was hastle free..check them out and use the money you would have paid for this book on tips for the strippers...

I read this at a bookstore and couldn't believe it was actually placed in the wedding planning section. This book should really be titled, "How to Destroy Your Marriage Before It even Begins" or "How To Get Your Best Friend's Wedding Called Off". Even: "How To Make a Complete Farce Out Of Your Wedding" would be a more accurate title.

Sure, this book had some good basic party planning advice, and also advice on PG rated bachelor parties, but I found it pretty disturbing when I saw the listings of brothels, tips on how to negotiate with hookers for specific "services", negotiate with strippers for "extras" (Hmmm, I think there's a name for strippers who do extras-they're called hookers), bachelor party "games" that involve cheating on your future wife, and tips on how to lie to her about it the next day.

Boy, what a great way to start off a marriage....cheating on, lying to, and hurting the person you asked to spend the rest of their life with you! What better way to celebrate one of the most important commitments you make in life....by demonstrating how uncommited you really are in front of all your buddies! Bet the bride will be thrilled to marry you, and will have no problem looking the best man in the face after that.

I realize this is not what all bachelor parties are about, but even according to the book, they are way more common than you think. Why encourage guys to engage in this disgusting behavior even more? This is what we are being expected to swallow and accept as "normal guy stuff."

"Men" who need to read this for tips on how to throw these raunchfests have no business getting engaged, or even being in a relationship at all. Yet, they voluntarily proposed. Not dragged at knifepoint by their significant other to the jewelry store. If you want to be an obnoxious frat boy for the rest of your life, do yourself and others a favor and stay single.

Team Challenges: 170+ Group Activities to Build Cooperation, Communication, and Creativity
It is a very thorough set of games for many purposes. Creative use of very common materials make it a treasure for facilitators, educators and managers conducting training and or meetings. I found very useful games regarding team building, communication, energizing physical activities and the like.

I am a therapist at a child and adolescent day treatment for kids with emotional and behavioral issues. It can be difficult to find activities that seem to motivate and energize the kids. They enjoyed many of the activities in this book. The activities are very hands-on and involve a lot of working together to build things out of all kinds of everyday materials. I highly recommend this book.

This book offers all kinds of great activities that will help foster cooperation, communication and creativity within whatever group of people you're using it for. The tasks range from mental activities to physical ones and are easy to understand, fun to execute and can be completed with objects that you usually have around the house. The book is a great tool for your own children, birthday parties, classrooms and it's also a perfect teacher gift!

3 activities with 1001 variations
Helpful Votes: 7 out of 12 total.
Review Date: 2006-11-22
Essentially, this is a book for people with little-to-no experience with group games or team building. All of the activities listed were ones I already knew, and the large number in the title comes from the number of variations for each of 3 activities: building things out of everyday items (see how high you can build a tower with the given items), common physical challenges (get the group from one side of the room to another using various props), and improv/word games. If you have a small imagination and very limited knowlegde of common team building activities, you might like this book, but if you're already in the field and looking for a book of new ideas, keep on looking. This isn't it.
