Miniatures Books

I am a fan of the author. I had even ranked his "Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire" and "Fresh Faith: What Happens When Real Faith Ignites God's People" to be the first and the third in my Books for Christians" Listmania list here on Amazon. Dont know whether he had tried too hard to write this for new believers or to edit it as a gift book, the output fails to "move" and/or "attracts" me as his other books did. No matter whether you had read his books or not, or you want to buy a gift book for your new believer friend, I strongly recommend you to start with or to buy the aforesaid instead of this.

Pastor Cymbala reminds us that the Holy Spirit is greater than our shortcomings and failures and that He intends to do through us what only He can do. That's a promise from the Bible, that He will complete that which concerns us.

Throughout this book, Scripture is coupled with person experience and teaching to show what God has done and how He works. Pastor Cymbala talks about hearing God when he writes, "Then quietly but forcefully, in words heard not with my ear but deep within my spirit I sensed God speaking..."

You will be encouraged and blessed by this book. It will help you to grow spiritually.

Star Wars is a great setting for a miniatures game, and this new game system from Wizards of the works pretty well to exploit that opportunity. Now you can fight out some of those skirmishes from the movies and catch all that action with Luke, Leia, Han, Vader with some decently sculpted and painted plastic miniatures. (I, for one, find it great to not have to paint the minis before playing.)

This is miniatures gaming for the masses, so those looking for a lot of detail will be disappointed. On the other hand, it's pretty easy to get playing quickly, with only the line of sight and cover rules taking a bit to get used to, but there aren't a lot of fiddly rules to remember during game play. You can certainly get some of the feel of the cinematic battle without much effort. Combat can pretty much be intuited just from looking at the stat cards. A fair number of the figures have special abilities; these are pretty important in adding some flavor and tactics to the game, and do a nice job of making the main characters seem something like their movie counterparts. And Force powers make Obi-wan, Luke and especially Vader, powerful characters indeed.

This is a starter in name only - it is necessary to play the game, since it contains the rules, map, terrain tiles, 20-sided die and accessories you will need, but hardly sufficient to do any more than get a feel for how it plays. A couple of extra boosters sets of figures are almost mandatory to provide for some interesting battles or to allow you to create 100 point squads for both sides. The rulebook lists only the basic 100 pt squad match up setup and the more imaginative "Rescue the Princess" scenario drawn from the A New Hope film. Of course, you'd need to have the necessary figures to make that work. More scenarios would have been nice, especially ones that were playable with only a starter and a booster. The single map, depicting a section of the Deathstar interior, is well done, but will get old after a while, even with the terrain tiles.. The recently released Rebel Storm Ultimate Missions book helps out a lot by providing many more scenarios, a double-sided map and some special rules, but it of course, is "sold separately".

My biggest complaint about the game (which cost it a star in my rating) is that it is sold in a collectible format. That is, some of the figures are rare, some common and some uncommon, and you buy boxes of figures without knowing what you'll be getting. This is a poor fit for a miniatures game, and quite frankly, seems to me to just be a way to shake the maximum amount of coinage out of a gamer's pocket. It's certainly no help that all of the unique, named characters from the movies, the figures you would most want to play with, are all rare or very rare, and thus acquired rather arduously one per booster (with the exceptions of the Luke and Darth Vader figures that come fixed in this starter). And really, who wants to play out Star Wars battles without Han Solo, Leia or Chewy? Trying to get the figures you want can be wasteful and expensive.

But if you really like Star Wars...

Star Wars "Rebel Storm" is the very first set for the Star Wars miniatures game. There are 60 different pre-painted figures in the set, and each Starter Set gets you off to a good start with eight random figures, plus two EXCLUSIVE rare figures (Obi-Wan Kenobi and Darth Vader). Starter set also includes the instruction booklet, a battle map (Death Star), 8 terrain tiles, damage counters, a D20, and full color stats cards for the 10 figures that come in your starter set (basically everything two people need to play a basic game, but if you'll like the game, you'll probably want to get a few boosters, too). The best thing about this set is that it the figures are based almost exclusively on the original trilogy. Thus, you will have seen all but a couple of them in those movies.

The game itself very fun (definitely one of my favorites). It is similar to the D&D minis game in many ways, so if you like that game, you are sure to like this game as well. But there are also enough differences to the two games to keep it interesting. Further, there are enough different figures in this set (each with its own special abilities, commander effects, and/or force points) that you will never have to play the same game twice (unless you want to). Several expansion sets have also been released to add even more variety to the game. Finally, the minis can also be used with the Star Wars RPG (though Unlike the D&D minis game, the stats cards for the Star Wars minis game do not include info for the RPG version of the game -- but many of these stats are available elsewhere).

In sum, I love this game, and if you love Star Wars and/or gaming, I think it's definitely worth a try. Hope this helps!

This book is good. Simple scenarios using a few figures in almost a role-play style. Featherstone gives a brief scenario story, a set of rules and a list of the men needed for the battle. Some illustrations make the battles vivid. One may fight battles in WW1, WW2, Zululand,as Vikings, Cowboys, Pirates, etc. Each figure may have a specific weapon or task. It is great fun for all ages.

This is a good book. It is simple and fun. The battles are fought with a few figures in a role-play style. Featherstone gives a short scenario story, a list of the men involved, and some rules. Illustrations make the scenario vivid. Battles are of WW1,WW2, Vikings, Cowboys, Pirates, Napoleonics, Zulus, etc.

Not my favourite Beatrix Potter but its O.K., much prefer, Peter Rabbit, Tale of the Flopsy bunnies and Benjamin Bunny.

Beatrix Potter is my favorite children's author. Her use of language is incredible, and her story lines are just dark enough to be interesting, and not so dark that they are truly terrifying.
Samuel Whiskers is the story of how Tom Kitten is almost made into a pudding dumpling. Highlights include an argument between Samuel Whiskers and his wife, Anna Maria, on the proper way to make a pudding, and Tom Kitten who, at the height of his regret about climbing the chimney, finds delight in how he's sweeping the chimney with his clothes.
Those who are heavily PC may not appreciate Potter's references to snuff, and whipping, but for the rest of us, those references add real color and interest to the story.

Tiny book, tea lover's delight. Would go great in a little basket made just for a special friend. I love Debbie Mumm books and the art work in this little guy is up to pare with her large books.

It is a beautiful small book.I do love the style,images and phrases.It is a wonderful inspiration for me .If you love Debbie and tea you will love this book.

As a collector of martini glasses, i recently received this little charm as a gift. I was VERY surprised! I never knew such a thing existed. It's SO cute! The little acryllic glasses are so tiny and the stir sticks are a perfect addition to this little gem. Get one for all your martini lovin' friends. An truly inexpensive and unique gift they're certain to love!!

Being a bartender who works for a manager who can't drink much, I bought this as a Christmas present to make light of his intolerance. It's funny for what it is, because it includes a mini-ice tray, two thick plastic glasses and a plastic (metal-colored) shaker. We made mini espresso martinis in them! Don't expect it to be useful, though. The book the box includes is helpful, but for the price of whole thing, you could buy a better bar book. It's funny as a novelty gift, but not much more than that.

As a fairly new collector of toy machines I found this book and the companion volume to be very beneficial to me. An excellent source for info.

This book has a lot of info for just about any collector of toy sewing machines. I found it very useful many times already and i've only had it a short time.

I used this little book as part of an engagement gift basket and it was a big hit.

There is a reason why this book is such a bargain, it's a minature pocket book. Its cute as a gift or a little something extra but it is not designed for helping you write your vows. The information is more about vows and not how to write them. It is small but sweet.

Although this book is a wealth of information, it is most useful to someone who has access to an overhead projector. If you are a "regular" person who would like to do shadow puppets in your home for their kids and grandkids, this may not be the book for you. The one good thing about the book is that there are some good patterns for shadow puppets. The book is advertised as a teaching aid, but I was unaware that the only projection system they recommend and explain in detail is the overhead projector.

AFTER SEEING DAVID WISNIEWSKI GIVE A PRESENTATION ON BOOK TV/C-SPAN 2, I JUST HAD TO HAVE THIS BOOK. HIS PRESENTATION INCLUDED A BRIEF EXAMPLE OF HIS SHADOW PUPPETRY SKILLS. TRUELY AWESOME. EVEN IF I NEVER TRY TO DO IT, I HAVE ALL THE INFORMATION I NEED TO PUT ON A QUALITY SHADOW PUPPET SHOW. WHILE THIS BOOK IS GEARED TOWARD INCORPORATING IT INTO A SCHOOL CURRICULUM, THE KNOWLEDGE IS HERE TO USE IT IN ANY SETTING. A WONDERFUL REFERENCE BOOK TO HAVE ON HAND.

These have been a lot of fun to try out. while the book is small (portable ;) this has been worth it. my friends and I have had tons of fun with this.

I was under the impression that the book was bigger. I received the book, and was suprised to see that it was so small. I guess I didn't read the specs. This book would be good to throw in your pocket or purse to go to a party.
