I purchased this score years ago before Dover published the full ballet score, and though I wished I had the full ballet at the time, this sufficed as a convenient set of selections from the ballet that form the Suite. Please, do realize that this is the SUITE and not the full ballet. It does say it in the title, but I've read a few reviews from people upset by the fact that it wasn't the full ballet. The title says "Suite" so please realize this before purchasing this product.

Nutcracker Suite a classic.

I thought that this book was moving. It was not the conventinal moving but a more enlightening one. The depth and the detail that the auther goes in to are so rare to find that it is in deed a tribute to a classic. I have loved the Nutcracker sence I was a baby and this book brought it in to a whole new light. It was simply wonderful.

Not Exactly What I Expected

I was slightly disappointed when I received this score. While the contents of the book are exceptional - as is always the case with Dover - and the binding of the book is unusually strong - sewn, not glued - I found it disturbingly thin. Much to my dismay, I discovered that this book did not contain every piece I had expected. Perhaps I am unfamiliar with the exact contents of the "Nutcracker Suite," but all the pieces on my Nutcracker CD were NOT in this score.

99.9% of the time, Dover produces the best score available to the average consumer. This is the .1%. While it might be the best score on the market today, I found that it was not what I had wanted. Don't get me wrong - everything in the book is fantastic - I had just expected more.

This book went into great detail on how to paint a civil war miniatuer. There are many photograhs (color) with instructions on what is happening in the photo. It takes you through the whole process. So if you know how to paint one you should know how to paint others. Good how to book.

Very detailed book!

This book goes into exact details of painting a historically accurate figure. Great book! The photos give a lot of details that most books would gloss over.

This book is a ripoff.

This book is a $14.95 disappointment. Davidson coversonly ONE figure, a resin one, and never bothers evento tell us the scale. What you get is numerous colorphotos of the SAME figure, from different angles. Youend up learning about ONE figure, ONE technique, ONEstyle of painting. How much can anyone learn from that?Schiffler has pulled this stunt before. I figure thatit is just a ripoff. Find any of the older books onpainting miniatures. You will be happier

Review Date: 2005-08-05
This little book measures approximately two and a half inches across by three inches high, and contains a series of heart-warming quotations and pictures of teddy bears. It would make an ideal small gift for a child or for someone who collects bears and soft toys as it's beautifully produced and well photographed.

The bears photographed are a mixture of modern and older toys, and have been set up in a variety of scenes such as hanging up the washing or decorating a vase of flowers.

The quotes include the usual one from Evelyn Waugh's "Brideshead Revisited" and other sources and the book will make an enjoyable addition to the bear lover's bookshelf.

This product is exactly what it says it is: the complete score to the most commonly performed version of Mozart's Requiem, the one finished by his pupil, Franz Xaver Sussmayr. My favorite thing about this score is that it includes notes on who wrote what! We're not positive who did how much precisely, but these sound to me reasonably accurate.

Unbelievable writing, this piece.

Includes translation of Latin.

Definitely a miniature score!

I bought this score from Amazon and had to send it back as soon as it arrived. I had tried to find out more about it before purchasing it but couldn't find a description anywhere so I'm writing this review to help others in the same situation.

Firstly this is a score of Mozart's Requiem, surely one of the most beautiful and profound pieces of music there is. A fantastic piece of art by an amazing composer.

This particular score is part of the Dover Miniatures series and, believe me, these things are miniature! They seem barely larger than an A5 page and consequently the notes are absolutely tiny. I found it hard enough reading the Novello score of Requiem that my library stocked - and this is much harder. If your eyesight isn't absolutely spot on then give this one a miss.

And the other big problem with this score - I hadn't realised that it's the full score which means a line of music for each instrument and no separate piano score. The version I had previously used had SATB and the piano part - this had the strings and woodwind and brass and stuff like that so wasn't what I needed. If you need to buy a score of Requiem as you're playing it in a concert then you're probably going to find this too small again. I suppose it's really aimed at those singing as they need less concentration on the notes once knowing them and the book is nice and small to hold during practises but I don't think it's suitable for musicians and, for a pianist like me, it was the wrong buy altogether.

Not bad

Mozart's Requiem, is probably the most moving work in the history of music. This score is very simple because it is unabridged. This score also contains the intrumentation, the movements, and the parts in which Sussymar (the person who completed the requiem) and the score is very good. I would rate this about 3 out of the requiem scores I have seen.

Don't get me wrong, I love the game system. It's just with the Explorers Edition now out, this book is kind of obselete. All of the rules in this book are now in the new cheaper Explorers Edition, with updates, erratas, and new edges and hinderances.
I would only recommend getting this if you have to have all the books.

Good "Generic" game

For a game that is as generic as this one. It does pretty good. The dice rolling and task resolution is simple and easy. For people who like a bit more details in their characters it might not be the game you are looking for. Some of our players seem to want a bit more "depth" to their characters. But I think this can be got around with a little work on the GM's part.

The best money I've spent on a gaming book in 23 years.

Simple, easy to set up and easy to run - yet still with enough "crunchy rules" to satisfy the 'roll' player in me.

If you want a *system* you're going to enjoy *playing*, rather than a *book* you're going to enjoy *reading*, then buy Savage Worlds.

The ships look great... really great in some cases. Thats why I went and picked up this set and a couple boosters from a local comic store. If you are a star wars fan and want some miniature ships, or if you are a scifi wargamer and need more space fodder, then go ahead and buy the boosters over this -- although the inclusion of the two large capitol ships could be useful too.

However, as a game, this product falls a little flat. The rules are fairly simple (too simple in my estimation), and offers few interesting tactical options. I'd recommend buying this game to play only if you want to introduce a younger person into miniatures wargaming.

Great figures, fair game

Reviewer's note: I wrote a similar review for the booster set, so please excuse me if you see it twice. However, since I didn't know where most buyers would start, I figured it was best to provide the review under both the boosters and the starters to be safe. That said...

I'm a big fan of Star Wars minis (especially Rebel Storm), and I couldn't wait to get my starter and boosters for the new Star Wars Starship Battles minis game. The game/set includes 60 different ships (30 "light side" and 30 "dark side" -- approximately 1/2 are from the original trilogy, and the other half are from the prequel). I have to admit, the ships look pretty cool (especially the smaller ones like the Millennium Falcon, Salve 1, TIE Fighters, TIE Interceptor, TIE Bomber, B-Wings, X-Wings, Y-Wings, etc.), and as I first read the instructions and looked at the ship stats cards, I was looking very forward to playing. In the end (after playing several games with a friend), however, I was largely disappointed with the game itself. Though there are a few interesting twists (like the command effects),the game is pretty basic, and unfortunately does not allow much room for strategy and/or creativity.

The best advice I can give you is to begin with the starter set, which comes with everything you'll need to play (including two exclusive rare ships -- the big guns in the set, eight randomized common and uncommon ships, map, instructions, command cards, damage counters, D20, etc.). You MIGHT also want to buy a couple of boosters (each booster includes seven randomized ships -- one rare, two uncommon, and four common). This way your buy-in isn't too bad; otherwise, it can get very expensive very quickly. You'll definitely get at least a few good games out of it, and if you like the game more than I did, you can easily buy more boosters (that is much better than the alternative of buying a ton of boosters and not being very happy with the game). Also, if you are interested the minis themselves (i.e., to collect them, for use with the D20 role playing game, or to use with some other Star Wars game/scenario), you'll probably be mostly happy with what Wizards of the Coast came up with.

In sum, the game/rules gets 3 stars, and the minis get 4-5 stars (rounded up to a 4 star rating overall). Hope this helps!

Simplicity often breeds strategy

I first bought this game so that I could use the ships for the roleplaying game, which is no doubt part of why the game was released in the first place. In terms of their use in that respect, they are fantastic but I *wish* there were more ships. Luckily, I hear that a new product may be on the way in 2008.

At any rate, I started playing the game because I was kind of curious what I could do with these ships that I'd bought. I started playing with a few of my friends at my college, and we agreed that the game is fantastic. The rules are pretty simple, as other reviewers have noted, but this helps to avoid ambiguity and prevent loopholes that could lead to game-breaking situations. Instead, the way that you deploy your fleet, choose to order and target your attacks, and how you use your command options really determines the flow of a game. After every game, I can usually point to the critical moment when my strategy either succeeded or failed because of a set of lynchpin moves. That's how a game should be. Simple enough to keep itself from crashing down around you when a weird combo is made, complex enough to keep it interesting. I think this game is a lot of fun, especially once you've explored the finer points of its rules.

Worth it for the maps

The scenarios, while movie specific, never really seem worth the effort here. But the maps and tiles are always exceptional, and the book is worth it for that alone.

This book is worth it for the maps alone (and if you like any of the scenarios, that is an added bonus)

Review Date: 2008-02-29
Though I am a huge fan of the Star Wars Minis game, I am not a big fan of the scenarios in this book (some are pretty good, but most are not). However, there are several things I liked about this item that I thought worth sharing. The best thing about this book are the two maps at the end:

Map 1: Coruscant -- A very good to great map that is legal for 100 and 150 point tournament play. Works best with shooters, but melee characters also stand a good chance on this map.

Map 2: Geonosis Arena-- A very good to great map that is legal for 100 and 150 point tournament play. Shooters have a moderate advantage on this map.

A couple of other nice things about this item is that there are several terrain tiles of various sizes, as well as Appendix with special rules for how to use some of them at the end of the book.

In sum, I would not necessarily buy this book for the missions (which make up 75% of this book), but this item is definitely/still worth getting for the maps, terrain tiles, and the special rules that make up the rest of the book.

A perfect story for children as they learn about life

This book will delight children. There is a great deal of bright, contrasting colors and the pop-ups have a great deal of detail. The tabs also allow the reader to generate a little bit of animation, further adding to the level of interest. Of course, the story is a timeless one of despair, aid and assistance, battles between good and evil, more despair and then triumph, as Snow White, the prince and the Seven Dwarfs all live happily ever after. A perfect story for children as they begin their journey to understand what life is all about.

This is a faithful recapitulation of the Disney animated movie of the same name, featuring colorful scenes from the film. As a rehash of the movie, it is okay, but the picture book format highlights the dated qualities of the film. Characters are often shown in Victorian dramatic poses, mouth agape, which diminishes, rather than enlivens the text. Also, I miss the comical scene of Snow White, who, due to her relative height, must stretch out across several of the dwarfs` beds lined up next to each other, in order to take a nap. There are other, better versions of this fairy tale for small children, so don`t go out of your way for this one.

A delightfully colorful and electrifying book!

This book captures all of the magic of Walt Disney's Snow White and transfers it to the pop-ups and pull tabs that children as young as two can joyfully discover for themselves. As a mother of a two year old who loves nothing more than parking himself in front of Walt Disney's treasury of videos, this book provides a welcome change from the glassy eyed gaze of a video transfixed toddler, to an eager, hands-on explorer of one of Disney's best loved films. Kids will love how the images come alive as they work their way through the book. It is very interactive and it provides hours of entertainment. This is a must buy for any young fan of Disney and any parent who would like to vary their children's intake of pop culture. A great stocking stuffer or Hanukkah gift for a young person. If you are looking for something different, give this book a try and prepare to be very pleased with your purchase

I've bought Harbinger, Dragon Eye, Giants and now Aberrations, and I find that the quality of the miniatures in Aberration seems to be much better than the previous series. The cards are in color compared to the older series, but that's not really a big deal. If you're like me and hate to paint miniatures, this could be useful to your D&D games or even for use with the Skirmish rules.

The abberations booster pack is an average pack. It has several nice miniatures such as the wyvern, ice troll, mindflayer, and a few others. However, it has a lot of creatures that are seldom used such as taer, chuul, and the mongrelfolk. It has it's perks but I wouldn't expect anything great to come from 1 of these packs. - Zen

I loved this book! This is the latest in my collection books by Timothy Alberts. From beginning to end the author captivates you with attention to detail. Although this book does not delve deeply into the more intricate aspects of how to make the designs shown, most are not for the beginner anyway. The designs featured in this book are some of the finest that I have seen. I would recommend this book to anyone interested in millinery, and eagerly await future works.

I was unhappy to see that this book did not contain explicit hat making instructions. The best example was chapter 5 on straw hats. In the instructions you are told to sew the straw braid together either by hand or machine but did not tell you if you should butt the straw braid together or over lap the braid. No help was given for hand sewing the braid either... what stitch to use? Nothing was mentioned about machine settings either. For example, if you use a straight stitch how long should the stitch be? If you use a machine zigzag stitch what is the best length and width. I was also surprised at the how to pictures in the book. I expected better close-ups. This was my first book about millinery so my expectations may be too high but I still feel the book left out a lot of very important information.
