I bought this voodoo doll for a friend who needed a little spicing up in her love life. She brought the doll home and immediately cast a *love* spell on her particular obsession and attached it to a personal effect of her subject. She came home the very next day and found that her cat had managed to remove the doll from the personal effect and drug the doll off to some unknown death. Rather than find the doll and try it again, she didn't do anything. Two weeks later.....her romantic interest has been null and void. Coincidence? Or voodoo? You do the math.

Great!

If you're looking at the reviews on this page/info on the book to just quietly think to yourself, "This is such crud, who could waste their money? You people need the power of Jesus!" then just leave. Subconciously, however, you are interested in the subject. Why else would you be here? Anyways, I bought this kit and was fairly impressed! My spells, no matter how simple they were, always worked. I also found that the doll can be used for more things than love+relationships, I cured my migraines. Believe it or not, I stand my ground.

I first picked this up as a gift for my niece--now I've bought them for all the kids I know. They're perfect little presents. The press really does work, even though it is tiny. You can't go wrong with this one.

Enjoyable gems

This is a necklace of fine gems. It contains over 400 problems composed with 7 pieces or less. Even though the problems are small, they have been selected on the basis of their technical merit and beauty. This remains one of the finest collections of its kind. Solutions are well explained and accurate. This is the perfect airport companion for the chess player. Does not require batteries.

Outstanding: hardcover too!

If you find this book, buy it and keep it. Hard to find a chess composition book on-line, much less in hard cover.

Conformation Information for Horses

I truely enjoyed this book on Conformation. At first, the book seemed to be on the small side. After reading it, I was better informed about all the things to watch for in horse confirmation.

Okay, so I'm related to the author (I'm her daughter, specifically). BFD.

Doesn't change the fact that the book is extraordinarily written, and obviously done by someone with a large volume of knowledge in miniature horses.

These horses are her life, and she brings that, in it's entirety, into this book. There are lots of pictures, there's a CD included, and descriptive analysis of conformation traits - but in layman's terms, so everyone, even those new to the miniature horse world, can understand.

You'd be short selling yourself to not buy this book if you're interested in miniatures.

Excellent Resource

This is an excellent resource for the miniature horse for both the experienced horeman and the owner new to miniatures. Miniatures do present some veterinary issues unique to the breed and this book addresses them thoroughly and well. Information is clear and easy to understand and the drawings and pictures are very helpful. The breeding section is filled with helpful information for the mini mare owner who may be considering breeding and should be read before breeding your mare.

a MUST for Miniature Horse Owners
Helpful Votes: 1 out of 1 total.
Review Date: 2008-06-23
Maintaining good equine health, and prompt diagnosis and treatment of illness or injury are Number One concerns for any horse owner. In the case of Miniatures, having the right information at your fingertips can often make the difference between having a positive result or a tragic one. This veterinary guide addresses the special medical concerns of the Miniature Horse, as they pertain to small size and the attendant unique physiological and metabolic demands.

Dr. Rebecca Frankeny approaches Miniature Horses from both a veterinary standpoint and that of an owner, and her fondness and appreciation for the breed gives her advice a nice personal touch. Dr. Frankeny holds the position of surgeon at Comstock Large Animal Hospital in Reno, Nevada, and also teaches equine medicine to pre-veterinary students and animal science majors.

This guide is organized by systems: Musculoskeletal (in-depth discussion of feet and legs), Respiratory, Teeth and Jaws, Liver (including hyperlipemia and hepatic lipidosis), Gastrointestinal (colic including causes, diagnosis, treatment, prognosis, and when to call a veterinarian), Endocrine (diseases as they relate to treatment in Miniatures), and Reproduction (extensive information on special needs of Miniature mares). A brief, but informative chapter on dwarfism outlines what it is, how and why it appears, and how to care for dwarf Miniatures.

Contributing author Stephen Duren, Ph.D. discusses nutrition in Miniatures, with special emphasis on balanced nutrients in feed, and nutritional needs of various stages in the Miniature's life. He also discusses feeding the overweight or underweight horse, needs of older horses, stallions, broodmares, growing horses, and performance horses. This information is of great value to any owner, new or seasoned.

Several appendices enhance the text: Normal Physiological Parameters and a list of Poisonous Plants are good information to have. A chart of Clinical Signs of Disease is one of the outstanding features in this book-a quick look-up for a symptom has the corresponding page number next to it. The final appendix is a list of resources for Miniature Horses; the only disadvantage to such information is that as the book ages, so does the contact information.

This book is well-written and understandable, for both laypersons with no equine experience, and established owners. The author is careful to explain new words and, in many cases, veterinary terms are in boldface type with extended explanation in the glossary. The text is nicely enhanced with color photos and good diagrams. A comprehensive index rounds out this excellent book, which should be part of any Miniature Horse owner's reference bookshelf.

Charming historical dollhouses

Review Date: 2008-05-02
This book presents a charming look at some important historical dollhouses in the Rockefeller Folk Art Center. Good pictures and texts. Not useful if you are looking for realistic projects for your own dollhouse crafting hobby, but for the historian, this is a wonderful look at historical dolls, dollhouses, and furnishings that were used over generations as toys and learning devices for girls. For extravagant historical dollhouse rooms created by and for an adult collector (that you would perhaps want to emulate in your own hobby), see another book, Miniature Rooms, about the Thorne Rooms at the Art Institute of Chicago.

An Invaluable Research Tool!

I consider this book to be one of the best dollhouse references out there. Every page has color photos. Many of the furniture pieces are photographed individually. Each photograph is clear and detailed. The author is careful to note when a piece is original, antique, or modern. Everything in this book is well-researched and documented. You could carve replica furniture pieces from the photographs in here, they are that good!

Needless to say, the houses featured in here are gorgeous in their own right. My favorite part of this book are the great photos of the Grodnertal peg-wooden dolls. This book contains some of the best Grodnertal photos I've ever seen!

Modeler's insight

Review Date: 2000-06-18
For advanced modelers, this book details the construction of 1/1200 scale ship models. Items covered include tools, choice of materials, construction techniques and detailing. While the numerous plans are mostly merchant ships, two warships (HMS Hood) and a destroyer have been included for naval enthusiasts.

Well worth the effort, this book will launch you on the basics of building of your 1/1200 scale fleet. You need only the time, tools, material and the patience.

A beautifully published and enthusiastically recommended collection of poetry by Rebecca Dunham, "The Miniature Room" showcases a true poetic talent and skilled wordsmith able to lyrically evoke detailed images that include an impressive diversity of concepts and a full range of emotional responses. 'The Tempest': Clouds orchard the sky, dangle/flush globes overhead. The storm/has not passed. There is no/rest, I know, just my son's cry//splintering the silence. A flash/both serpentine & bright./If sleep's slick waters could slip/their banks & cover me//like a sheet. If the telephones, tea/kettle, even the raspong green/sofa's slipcovered twill could be/quieted. Below the water's purled//surface, a stillness pours. Please./This, the uninhabited moment.

I am not a blurbist, so my comments won't be book-jacket worthy, but I will try to give you a sense of this book. One of the central devices that holds this collection together is that of the fine art miniature (think pages in illuminated manuscripts or the Thorne Rooms at the Art Institute of Chicago), but it would be a mistake to expect quaint little lyrics. Although there is a focus on the domestic, the voice is very much in touch with the vast darkness that lies on either side of life. In "Yard Elegy," there is "Everywhere, death," and this preoccupation infuses even the otherwise suburban picturesque of a toddler on a swing or trying to place fallen petals back on a branch. An ekphrastic that starts from Leonardo's "Madonna and Saint Anne," tells of Mary's birth and her mother's immediate feeling that loss would now forever hang over her, the infant's "fingers tipped with blue."

One of my favorite single poems is "In which I am the Serpent in the Garden," which ends with the following lines:

I pluck an apple from the fruit bowl & slice it,
luminous, a fan of moons flowering his plate.

The constant tension of death with the everyday makes such moments more beautiful and feel earned.

This reads much more like a second or third book than a first. Based on this book, Rebecca Dunham has the potential to become a major talent.
