Booby-Trap Books

I went to to Catholic high school in Chicago where we were required to take a class solely on the topic of marriage. During my 21 year marriage my wife (now former) kept asking me where I learned all these good things about marriage. I told her I took a marriage class in high school, and I had two partnes who loved each other and showed it every day. I wish I read your book as a refresher 6 years after high school.

High schools should purchase this book by the truck-load and teach a class focused solely on this book. I have a different spiritual system than the author, but no reasonable, mature person can disagree with his highly effective examples, clear writing style and the wealth of first-hand experience he provides. You can tell he is a gifted person who cares for people and society. This book will dramatically reduce teen pregnancy, depression, abortion, crime, violence, poverty, and other societal problems caused by divorce, broken homes and single-parent homes. We need to buy this book in bulk and give it out to the people we care about, especially teens and young adults.

The author did a lot of information search. I found this book to be more of how and why to avoid abusive relationships. It will be a plus to add to your library as a reference guide.

Why People Choose the Wrong Mate is a best seller! It clearly defines the boundaries of God and society's relationship. The book illuminated my mind to the not so obvious pit-fall that so many fall prey to.

When I began reading. I could hardly put the book down. Anyone looking for a mate will definitely get this book recommended to them by me.

Triplett, you have out done yourself. The Holy Spirit was definitely talking to you. I can see that you have a sensative ear and relationship with the Lord. This book will go down as one in history for the ages to read.

This is a powerful book full of powerful truths and everyday examples. I will not share my copy of this book. I'll buy one for others, but they cannot have my book. It is like a handbook and should be reviewed at the beginning of every relationship. The bottom line is this: Through examples and Biblical references, the book teaches that "Obedience is better than sacrafice." I thank God for Gillis Triplett. I was married for 24 years. My husband had a bad accident involving a head injury. The counselor said that the accident exacerbated the deteriorating condidtions in our marriage. The last six years of our marriage were living hell for me and my children. We were always afraid. As I looked back over the years, some of the abuse was there from the beginning, but I thought I could make the marriage work. If I had read this book earlier, I would have seen the signs even before we got married.

This book is the truth and nothing but the truth!Everyone should have this book.It is a true reference to life as we live it.Before starting any relationship,one should read it.It touches so close to home,you wont be able to put it down.My Advice to you 'GET YOUR OWN COPY"

The book is filled with anecdotal booby trap incidents, giving information about a variety of mines and especially explosive booby traps. Beginning with WWI, he covers various types of explosive traps utilized by the retreating German army. The reading can be technically "dry" at times, but the stories of real booby traps and some of the men who set them will certainly get your attention! I only wish there was more detail about Viet Nam era traps and explosive devices. Recommended reading for anyone who enjoys military literature in any form.

I bought this product in the CD version and received the BBC Audio edition rather than the one from Audio Partners. The first story, "Not Quite Dead Enough" was incomplete. The whole first chapter and beginning of the second were omitted. I opted for a refund from Amazon rather than a replacement since every copy of the BBC Audio edition is likely to be similarly defective.

A welcome distraction for Wolfe fans. While worthy of the Wolfe name, neither of these stories has the amount of plot and character depth as most of Stout's other novels. But that by no means, means that these stories aren't an interesting listen.
Prichard of course delivers the subtle differences of every character in his inimitable way.
Not Quite Dead Enough is the best of the two, and is in my opinion, one of Stout's best short stories.
Booby Trap shows a bit of a 'dark side' of Wolfe, wherein, ***spoiler*** he persuades a murderer to commit suicide near the end. But overall this collection is a must-read for Wolfe fanatics, as is pretty much every other Wolfe novel.

Just got this CD set, so now I have, let's see, 27 Nero Wolfe books on tape or CD.

There's no help for it.

Now, bear in mind that while Michael Pritchard read most of these, he did not read all of these, and that is not satisfactory. An actor from the A&E series read one or two of them and while I admite his chutzpah, he's no Pritchard.

I hope that, eventually, Pritchard records ALL of the Wolfe stories.

Michael Pritchard jumps into these two stories with his usual enthusiam. I love the way he does Wolfe - not exaggerating or overplaying, but clearly conveying that Wolfe is a big guy with a commanding voice. Maury Chaykin comments on the A&E DVDs that "no one talks like Nero Wolfe." Well, I know one guy who does...

And when Pritchard speaks with Archie's voice [and Archie's "inner voice"], he captures Archie's special combination of earnestness and cynicism that makes him so appealing.

These two stories are logically grouped as among Stout's World War II efforts. Some have derided the first one as too implausible, and recommend jumping right into "Booby Trap." With the CD set, it's pretty easy to do that: the tracks are clearly labelled. But if you do, you actually miss some of the "setup material" since, it appears, "Not Quite..." is set at a time frame preceding "Booby Trap."

Suit yourself. Since I cannot get enough of Nero Wolfe, I just let the good times roll...

An adequate text for the untrained law enforcement officer (LEO), but an insufficient reference for the experienced LEO. Dark and shaded black and white photographs poorly highlight the details of some mechanisms discussed . There is little insight and discussion about the substances used to create explosive mixtures, as well, as their toxicity and volatility. The book mainly focuses on military munitions and field tactics, and it provides a minimal reference to civilian-urban applications. I was disappointed when I paid $18.00; I expected a more in-depth presentation of the art and science of booby traps.

Although this book has detailed plans for lots of booby traps,they all require the use of explosives and the aurther assumes that the reader has a thorough working knowledge of explosives. For someone wanting to learn how to make snares and deadfalls,this is not the apropriate book.
