This book is awesome. Read it from cover to cover. Beautiful paper ideas. Glad I chose it. Making baby announcements,
and I was looking for the right envelope to enclose them. Mimi's Envelope Template on page 28, hit the spot. The Hand Card
on page 85, gave me excellent ideas for gift cards. Truly recommend this book to anyone looking for new paper ideas. Mimi

Spelling Rules Made Fun

I first ran across this workbook in a Barnes & Noble when I was looking for ways to help a 7th grade student I was tutoring
with spelling. I didn't get this book at the time, but I wish I had. So many workbooks out there teach spelling by giving
lists--which is all well and good in its way, but how much better to learn some of the fundamental rules that apply to _any_
word you might need to spell? The presentation is fun--with games and pictures to reinforce the rules. A few rules are given
in each lesson--enough to lay a good foundation for spelling, but never enough at one time to overwhelm the anxious speller.
This is a great resource, especially for those who, like me, work one-on-one with students at varying skill levels. Besides,
the best way to teach is to make learning fun.

This book covers the area of non-expected utility theory. One of the most prominent researchers writes this book very carefully.
So you can get enough knowledge to master choice theory. The history of utility theory is very long, so this book will be
a good help for economists, not only for graduate students.

You'll want to give this to your child's daycare provider

This is a great, easy read filled with illustrations and practical tips. It is useful for day care providers (even informal
ones) and parents of pre-school aged children. This book helps you build "print-rich" environments to help use the natural
curiosity children have in order to promote literacy. This, in turn, helps children come to school ready to succeed.
We can plug 'baby Einstein'-type tapes all we want, but in the end, children depend on adults who take an active role in helping children develop their natural curiosity. The ideas in this book are easy to implement. No daycare should be without a copy of this book.

press and reviews for Olympia

"Sinn (University of Wurzburg) has directed several important excavations at Olympia, and here he "tries to sketch [Olympia's]
develop-ment into the arguably most famous sanctuary in the Mediterranean." Sinn argues that Olympia was not always a place
for famous athletic games; and by the time written records appear at-testing its fame for athletics, the sanctuary was already
400 years old. In summarizing the extant records on Olympia, then, Sinn is particularly concerned to reveal details about
worship at the sanctuary in its earliest times. In thirteen succinct chapters, Sinn summarizes what is known about the origins
of Olympia, the struggles for power over it, worship at the oracle, the athletic games, how different philosophers reacted
to Olympia's image, particularly of the athletes, how festivals and games attracted tourists and what they did, and Olympia's
benefactors, such as Alexander the Great, Mummius, and Nero. Although Sinn focuses on primarily Greek Olympia, i.e., until
the Romans overtake it, he gives an overview and helpful chronological summary (through the sixth century CE) in the last
chapter. With glossa-ries of personalities in Greek and Roman history and mythology, this is probably the most accessi-ble
introduction to and overview of Greek Olympia.

"The following review appeared in the March 2001 issue of CHOICE:
This work of a German archaeologist (Univ. ofWurzburg) who has been active in excavations at the site of the ancient Olympic Games has relatively little to do with sport activities. The greater part of the book describes the history of various buildings and monuments and the role of the site in Greek religion, society, and politics. Olympia was important in Greek life and respected by all Greeks, as well as by Macedonians and Romans. Its oracle imparted war advice, cult activities at Olympia brought together Greeks widely separated geographically, a Pan Hellenic arbitration court was established there, Greeks occasionally battled for control of the sanctuary, the site expanded in size and complexity with time, and earthquakes and floods threatened its existence. Information not generally found in other books is presented, for example, assertions that the Olympic Games continued until early in the fifth century CE and that academic classes were conducted in the palaestra. The book should appeal to general readers interested in ancient history, but history specialists will be frustrated by its lack of notes and reference citations, and sport historians, by its minor emphasis on sporting events, athletes, and spectators."

Dr. LeRoy Walker has been referred to as an American Hero and after reading his story, I can fully agree. His story is about
overcoming politics, poverty, and racism to eventually become the President of the U.S. Olympic Committee. His Olympic Journey
was a remarkable triumph and one I'll always remember. Great book!

Sports in the Political Arena

While the bulk of history on the 1980 Summer Games is the United States boycott due to the Soviet Union's 1979 invasion of
Afghanistan, author Baruch A. Hazan explores an important - but oftentimes rarely mentioned angle - the merging of politics
into athletics to deliver a loud and controlled message on the world stage.
Moscow 1980, Hazan writes, was an excellent example of sport and politics being connected and that such major international competitions is politics being played out in athletic arenas.
Perhaps the watershed moment of politics and athletics was in the pole vault, when Poland's Wladyslaw Kozakiewicz gave what became known as "Kozakiewicz's gesture" to Soviet fans who were vociferously booing his efforts, which yielded a gold medal and world record.
Hazan adds a well-researched voice to the history of the Olympic Games that are played in a decathlon of politics and ideologies.
