If you are a teacher and teach using Jan Brett books this is an excellent resource to add to your library. It has many creative
activities to compliment some of her most popular book titles. With writing being one of the critical components of the new
standardized tests, this book is a fresh approach to working with those skills. This teaching guide can be supplemented with
some of the many activities that Ms. Brett has available on her web site.

Always Pleasure with Soltis' bookds

Soltis talks to you. He understands the club player's mind. When I read his books I feel he is setting close answering my
questions. He wants you to understand chess not memorize it.
Why this book is considered so important to me. If you read other opening books they dump the firt, say, 10 moves of a variation then they start analysing from there relying on their collection of games in their database. But What happens before those 10 moves. what if my opponent play this move, what if he ignores that one. Unfortunately that's what usually happens in my games.
Then this book takes you before you reach a known position to IMs and GMs and let's you know why they get to where they are. Then Gives you some Ideas to divert your opponent from reaching their comfort zone. I'm sure he would have explained many more Ideas specific to each opening if he hasn't to cover all openings in one book.
Actually I wish he would write a book on complex openings such as King's Indian or ruy lopez using same style of talking to the club player.
I wish every opening book author will adopt this style of writing because most of the readers are on the level A class or less.

I am not aware of any other book handling the subject of transpositions in chess openings, I suppose Soltis is a pioneer on
the subject. The author covers the topic very thoroughly, going through the transpositions in all major openings, KP (Ruy
Lopez, King's Gambit etc.), QP (Queen's Gambit, Indian defences), as well as the tricky English, Reti, etc. Whatever opening
you use, you will probably find it covered in the book. A very useful work, can save you tons of study time.

This book kept my kids -- 3 1/2 and 5 years old -- entertained for hours. This book includes all the numbers at the bottom
of each page, so it is easy to use for kids still learning how to count. There are many dot-to-dot pictures on each page,
so there are plenty of pictures to complete. I highly recommend it.

This book offers a range of skill levels that allowed my 5YO tobuild his confidence, while giving him challenges as he progressed. He
loved the colorful pictures and was excited to discover the next puzzle. He likes to color with markers, and we found the
paper used in the book doesn't "bleed" like many other books we've tried. I would highly recommend this book to any parent
who is trying to teach their child numbers.

After spending thousands of dollars on homeschool materials, I think it's funny that a $15 book should be my favorite! This
book is awesome. The BEST part is that is in color on glossy paper!!! Now we can actually see what we are supposed to be
doing. I'm only buying color, glossy art books from now on.
We, 7, 9 and 39, created every project in this book and we were all pleased with our results. Basic paint supplies are needed, and I'd recommend good quality papers. The drawing is kept to a minumum so even the littlest can do it. I mounted all the projects on black construction paper and turned our hallway into a gallery. I'm keeping this book and doing it all over again in a few years, so we can see our progress.

as 2nd or 1st and be too difficult or easy. These would have pleased Goldilocks.

This has been a great resource to me as a First Grade Teacher. The book is mostly ready to copy printables. Each week, you
make photocopies for the students of the two pages of homework. One page is a short story with illustrations, and the other
page has questions or a quick activity, along with a note to parents. I have found these to be very helpful in building comprehension
and fluency skills. I also think that it has been good for the parents of my students because they have more direction, as
far as what they can do to help their child read. Each assignment focuses on a different skill (cause and effect, punctuation,
sequence of events, etc.), and the parent note really helps to inform and guide parents through the homework as they help
their child. I also like that the homework is due at the end of the week, so parents can pick which night is more convenient
to help their child with the homework.
Overall I am very pleased with this resource.

This is an excellent, non-threatening way to introduce math in the real world to children. Cal's adventures are short, and
require problem solving skills that everyone needs to practice. This book is not just for the mathematically inclined. It
is for children of all ages looking for a riddle to solve.

My son likes math puzzles, so when he saw that this book was available, he purchased it through the scholastic books program
at his school. He enjoyed it and so did I. It consists of 22 problems presented in the form of math puzzles. Each puzzle is
roughly four pages in length and solutions to all are in the back of the book. The writing is well done and the problems posed
are at the middle school level.
Most of the problems involve crimes and what is nice about the stories is that the problems blend so well with the situations. One of the main and valid criticisms of textbook problems is that they are so artificial. There is none of that here. The problems are fresh, interesting and present mathematics in a realistic light. If your children have an interest in math, then you should buy them this book.

Author and accomplished hunter Berdette Zastrow addresses all aspects of hunting from a female perspective. She starts with
the "need to know" basics of hunting with chapters on women's outdoor programs, firearms, ammunition and safety, hunting clothing,
finding places to hunt, ethics and conservation. Drawing from personal experiences and backing her information up with facts,
Zastrow explains the different types of game, the proper way to hunt that game and all the gear needed. Learn to hunt antelope,
deer, wild turkeys, upland game birds and waterfowl. The book transcends gender--men will learn from this information, also.
Woman's Guide to Hunting will not only educate you and help you teach others about hunting, but will inspire you to go afield
as well.
Exactly what I needed!

Like the author, I didn't start hunting until I was an adult. I have half a shelf of books on hunting and shooting, some written
by and for women, but none of them are even half as useful as this book. Unlike other experts, who often seem to have forgotten
that there was ever a time when they didn't know the basics, Berdette Zastrow tells you everything you need to know to get
started hunting. I can't praise this book highly enough. I wish it had been available 3 or 4 years ago when I started hunting.

Who can resist a beautifully wrapped gift? One that lets you know as soon as you see it that it is special! Marie Browning's
Book "Wonderful Wrap" is the consumate guide to gift wrapping. Not as simple as it sounds, wrapping must take into account
the size, shape and occasion. Marie's book gives great direction for making and decorating packages, materials (like fabric
paint, glass beads, raffia and wire clips) finishing touches, ideas for embellishing gifts and over a dozen gift box/container
patterns. Plus, just seeing the beautiful samples are an inspiration to create wonderful wraps for all your gifts. (Marie
Browning has several other creative and inspiring books - but this one is especially gorgeous!)

We have a 9th grader and a 6th grader. Over the years, we have purchased numerous academic study guides. Vocabulary is a
dry topic for most people. We have many vocab books in the house. This is one of the very best.
2.5 years years ago, I bought this book for my daughter who was in 7th grade at the time. I just bought another copy of this book for my son who is in 6th grade. The title says 7-12 grade, but I think the book is appropriate for 6-9th graders who are strong students.
The book contains 30 units, each chapter starts with a list of well chosen list of related words, and then the unit provides exercises to reinforce the unit's words. The activities include crosswrod puzzles, matching columns, jumbles, word finds, complete the sentence, etc.
It is clear that the author put a great deal of thought into word selection and the activities. The activities force students to pick the most appropriate word in context, which is far better than dry memorization. We have many vocab books, most of them are boring. This book makes vocab about as fun as it is possible for vocab to be. Our kids almost like doing the exercises in this book.

is a second edition, because I would use it.

My 8 year old niece borrowed this book from the library and loved it. She put on a magic show for my kids ages 6 and 3.
They then wanted me to do some of the tricks for them as well. So I borrowed it. Then I decided to buy it so when my 6 year
old son is ready to try the tricks on his own he can. It is a very easy to follow book and uses everyday items you have around
your house. And the book is inexpensive.
