Game Studies Books

This book kept my kids -- 3 1/2 and 5 years old -- entertained for hours. This book includes all the numbers at the bottom of each page, so it is easy to use for kids still learning how to count. There are many dot-to-dot pictures on each page, so there are plenty of pictures to complete. I highly recommend it.

This book offers a range of skill levels that allowed my 5YO tobuild his confidence, while giving him challenges as he progressed.He loved the colorful pictures and was excited to discover the next puzzle. He likes to color with markers, and we found the paper used in the book doesn't "bleed" like many other books we've tried. I would highly recommend this book to any parent who is trying to teach their child numbers.

I actually received this entire series from my brother, who although he couldn't get into the Sudoku mode himself appreciated my passion for it.

I enjoy all levels of Sudoku, and tend to select the difficulty of the puzzle I do on the basis of how I'm feeling rather than on what I believe my ability to be. One of the benefits is that the easier puzzles provide one with a sense of accomplishment that can help neutralize a blue spell or a negative life experience. (I wouldn't be surprised to find out that the seretonin level of the brain is significantly effected by this process which may be what gives these puzzles their reputation for "addiction.") I therefore return to simpler puzzles from time to time. One outcome is that one gains a more thorough insight into the logic and methodology of the game while occasionally finding a new method by which to approach it. The White Belt Sudoku book is a wonderful example of this.

I am totally addicted to Sudoku and have worked many puzzles in many books, but I especially like the martial arts series. Their difficulty ratings are "right on." These puzzles are very user-friendly and I highly recommend this series to all players!

This is an excellent, non-threatening way to introduce math in the real world to children. Cal's adventures are short, and require problem solving skills that everyone needs to practice. This book is not just for the mathematically inclined. It is for children of all ages looking for a riddle to solve.

My son likes math puzzles, so when he saw that this book was available, he purchased it through the scholastic books program at his school. He enjoyed it and so did I. It consists of 22 problems presented in the form of math puzzles. Each puzzle is roughly four pages in length and solutions to all are in the back of the book. The writing is well done and the problems posed are at the middle school level.
Most of the problems involve crimes and what is nice about the stories is that the problems blend so well with the situations. One of the main and valid criticisms of textbook problems is that they are so artificial. There is none of that here. The problems are fresh, interesting and present mathematics in a realistic light. If your children have an interest in math, then you should buy them this book.

Author and accomplished hunter Berdette Zastrow addresses all aspects of hunting from a female perspective. She starts with the "need to know" basics of hunting with chapters on women's outdoor programs, firearms, ammunition and safety, hunting clothing, finding places to hunt, ethics and conservation. Drawing from personal experiences and backing her information up with facts, Zastrow explains the different types of game, the proper way to hunt that game and all the gear needed. Learn to hunt antelope, deer, wild turkeys, upland game birds and waterfowl. The book transcends gender--men will learn from this information, also. Woman's Guide to Hunting will not only educate you and help you teach others about hunting, but will inspire you to go afield as well.

Like the author, I didn't start hunting until I was an adult. I have half a shelf of books on hunting and shooting, some written by and for women, but none of them are even half as useful as this book. Unlike other experts, who often seem to have forgotten that there was ever a time when they didn't know the basics, Berdette Zastrow tells you everything you need to know to get started hunting. I can't praise this book highly enough. I wish it had been available 3 or 4 years ago when I started hunting.

This is a great book for young kids to learn their first magic tricks. It's fun and easy to read, and the illustrations are great!

My 8 year old niece borrowed this book from the library and loved it. She put on a magic show for my kids ages 6 and 3. They then wanted me to do some of the tricks for them as well. So I borrowed it. Then I decided to buy it so when my 6 year old son is ready to try the tricks on his own he can. It is a very easy to follow book and uses everyday items you have around your house. And the book is inexpensive.

This is a book of drills to help your student master single digit addition and subtraction. There are many master pages which can be written on or copied for use (permission to photocopy is granted on the copyright page).

Once all the games were made and placed into plastic bags that were labeled, the management was simple. Students love playing them when they're finished their work. Well-worth the money and investment!!

I didn't want this book to end - it's been a while since I've had such fun while tackling a challenge.
My favorites had to be the rectangular 5 and 6 starred puzzles.

I will definitely be checking out more of his books.

100 Games and Activities for the Introductory Foreign Language Classroom offers a wealth of stimulating, enchanting and effective games and activities that students of a foreign language can engage in rather than learning by rote or performing drills. All exercises can be adapted to classes of any foreign language. Each activity lists its central topic for quick reference, the required materials (which are always inexpensive), the lesson objective, instructions, and spare notes. Individual activities range from simulating a catwalk from a fashion show to have students practice the names of articles of clothing, to a silent pantomime game for reviewing vocabulary, to a "total body ball" game for reviewing different body parts by calling out which parts of the body a student is allowed to receive the rubber playground ball with. Especially recommended as a shake-'em-up supplement for teachers of grade school and high school foreign language classes.

...to get reluctant writers to write. The pieces in this book are thought-provoking and beautiful, and students will want to echo the power behind this writing. Bravo.
