The "Grammar Games" set of books is a must for transforming deadly dull grammar lessons into creative and fun activities. "More Grammar Games" is the second in the series. Each activity lists the grammar structure involved, level, preparation, materials and timing. A big bonus is that the Table of Contents lists the grammar point as well as the name of the activity--far too many other resources only give you the name of the activity, which makes it impossible to find anything easily. A great resource!

One of the easiest books I have seen for teacher use. The activities require little preparation and materials. Students become actively involed with various aspects of the English Language. I can find activities for all levels and age groups.

I often get stumped on new ideas for "game day" and this book has helped a great deal in regards to making game day different while learning important grammar in the process. I will never leave home without this book!
It has all different levels of games that you can change to meet the needs of your age group.

It is very easy to do all activities even if you are in a place without any resources. So now, instead of wondering what to do, I am now looking forward to game day along with my students.

I definately recommend this book for new ESL teachers who aren't creative enough (like me!) to come up with new ideas each week.

Happy Teaching!

Great puzzle book! - full of reworked classics, but with plenty of new twists and ideas - though you'll need to get plenty of paper and a pair of scissors to work many of the puzzles.

Let's hope for more puzzles from Serhiy!

If you're an afficianado of visual/logicial puzzles, you've probably shared my experience when browsing through so-called new puzzle books at your local bookstore-they all recycle the same old familiar chestnuts! There are a few places to find original puzzles-Games Magazine, the World Puzzle Championships, Scott Kim, Cliff Johnson, Think Fun-but not many. Happily, Grabarchuk's new book is a welcome departure from the norm. His puzzles are original and first rate, in a league far above your typical Mensa puzzle book. Highly recommended.

Play 1d4! (Batsford Chess Book)

At last!

At last, there is a comprehensive repertoire book for white, that totally lacks offbeat or inferior lines (to "surprise" or "stun" your opponents). This is a great book by Palliser, that is, along with the new "The Chess Advantage in Black and White" by Kaufman, for 1. e4, the best repertoire book I have ever seen.

An excellent repertoire book, no real weaknesses.

In a repertoire book, I look for three things:

1)Breadth of coverage. Does the author cover everything he should cover in the book?
2)Depth of coverage. Does the author provide sufficient research/theoretical material and games for the repertoire?
3)Prose. Does the author explain the ideas of the repertoire well?

Palliser does very well on all three parts. While I don't agree with all of his choices of systems, the coverage he provides is very, very good. This definitely is one of the best repertoire books out there. I would have to agree with a previous reviewer: this book and Kaufman's The Chess Advantage in Black and White (which I also have and like a lot) are the two best repertoire books out there right now.

A rare case of an objective repertoire book.

This is an excellent book. It provides white with a complete (unlike some other repertoire books I could mention...) set of systems with 1. d4 and usually 2. c4. The recommendations are sound and promise white at least an edge. Palliser gives detailed coverage of the lines he suggests and seems to me to give very objective and fair evaluations of the resulting positions. The book does not show the bias towards the author's side which some similar works do. The advice on plans is useful, sensible and always revealing. Palliser's flexibility is shown in the chapter on the Dutch where he is willing to suggest 2. Nc3, which departs from the 2. c4 rule. He covers 2. c4 as well to cope with 1. ... e6 move orders, and many authors would only have put in the 2. c4 material. Palliser goes the extra mile and offers the extra line. This is something always noticeable in this book; there are no obvious short cuts. Palliser's calm writing style helps to guide the reader through what are sometimes quite densely packed variations without losing sight of the most important points. I think anyone who plays 1. d4 and wants to play sound but promising lines would benefit from studying this book. A very fine effort.

I REALLY LOVED THE BOOK. IT GIVES ME PRACTICAL TOOLS TO APPLY TO MY GAME IN A VERY DIRECT MANNER. EACH TIME I RE-READ A CHAPTER OR A SECTION I GET MORE AND MORE OUT OF IT. I PLAYED THIS WEEK WITH SOME OF HIS POINTS IN MIND AND I PLAYED VERY WELL. HE SHOULD WRITE A SEQUEL (PERHAPS HE HAS)

I have read quite a few books on tennis, but this one is probably my favorite. I keep going back to it for reference everytime I play a big match. This book covers almost everything from strokes, to the mental game, to fitness. One thing I really like is the list of do's and don'ts that you can use as a quick reference.

I'm homeschooling and I could go on the road with the Spectrum books. After trying several different curriculums, I stumbled across these books in the bookstore. They were an answer to prayer. There is an answer key in the back, so I haven't had to haul around a huge teachers edition. These books, all of them (we homeschool a 1st grader and 3rd grader and we use Spectrum Spelling, Writing, Reading, Language Arts, Vocabulary, Phonics, and Math) are exactly what we needed. My first grader LOVES the reading books. We ordered both, the regular Spectrum, and the one written by Mercer Meyer with the Little Critter characters. Childrens books (especially the ones written at her level) are SO expensive, and these reading books come with so many stories, and they have exercises for reading comprehension. I REALLY can't say enough. One thing I'd like to see them do? Add science and social studies/ history and geography to their mix... art and music while we are at it!!

The "BestEver" Intro Book for a Overview of Hospitality!

Review Date: 2001-12-13
I have been teaching the college lever intro course for well over 20 years. I have used many text and supplemented same. John's book is succinct, well written and dosen't bore you with trivia. Students thinking about a career in hospitality are interested in finding out all they can in a short period of time what the hospitality industry has to offer. Walker's book, I have used as Department Chair at two colleges, is still the best book on the market. John quickly exposes the unsuspecting student
to a array of opportunities that many of them never thought that they could get to via a career in the hospitality industry. The stero typical notion of HRIM Majors being "Burger Flippers" is quickly dispelled when John's book is used along with supplemental material demonstrating further connections to many facets of the service industry.

I thank John Walker many times over for his diligence in keeping consistent the material with regular updates. Other books are good, but John's is the best. Afer more than 44 times of teaching this class, I will stick with John's text. It is an sperb read for those who are either beginning a career or who may be searching for a place to start. It also ties in nicely with other courses that often capture a readers interest to continue on and seek out more information. It is a great recruitment tool if used well.

Our family, like the rest of the world it seems, has become addicted to Suduko and my daughter is no exception. Being four she of course had to have "her own book" and we chose this one. The book, with it's larger grids and only one puzzle per page, is very kid-friendly. The difficulty level is right one the mark, the puzzles are challenging but not so difficult that a child would get discouraged. My daughter really enjoys playing Suduko and is very proud of the completed puzzles in her book, and I'm sure your child will be too. Now if she could just figure out how to tie her shoes......

Highly recommended

This is a good book on Sudoku for kids. The book includes 77 puzzles. The puzzles are of two sizes: 6x6, and 9x9. The solutions are at the end of the book. There are no categrories or levels of difficulty for the puzzles.

The first three pages in this book are dedicated for strategy, hints, rules, or tips. All the puzzles in the book are Classic Sudoku (with numbers). There are no Alphabet Sudoku (with letters) or Symbol Sudoku (with shapes and symbols) like the two books "Kindergarten Sudoku" and "Super Sudoku for Kids". Also, there are no simple 4x4 puzzles like some of the other books.

I totally LOVE this product. They are time consuming to make up BUT well worth it.Once the centers are made up, they are easy to maintain. I would highly suggest laminating the pieces. I did and they have held up very well. My students loved doing them. I would recommend for any teachers. Many times I used these as a reward for getting work done in class early. Students were able to pick what they wanted to do after completing their assignments.
