A wealth of inspiration and instruction!

The photographs alone will send you to your sewing room. Kate Mathews offers over 200 photos of finished products plus the how-to instructions to produce them. The gist of her message is that you can take a dress pattern (she doesn't specify brand or number) and, with some planning and creativity, make it truly your own one-of-a-kind designer original. Her techniques are fun and trendy and she provides something for almost every sort of taste.

The book offers something to dressmakers of all levels of expertise. To be sure, the more experienced will have less difficulty in mastering and adapting the suggestions. But the novice can be equally entranced by many of the techniques.

This book is a joyful addition to a sewing library!

The inventive ideas explode in this book.

This is a must have book, for those of you having a hard time being inventive, like I am. I like to sit down and get going on a project, without having to think of something new on my own. I picked this book up at the library and now I need to own it. It gets the creative juices flowing and makes you want to stop everything to make time for sewing that original outfit. It's well written with shortcut ideas and encourages those of us who find so little time to actually sew these days. The week is outlined with steps for each project so after the weekend ends your project is done. I'm only hoping that Ms. Mathews continues with this line of books and ideas.

Excellent examples with great direction. It is not the author's fault that I can't produce similar paintings. Maybe one day?

A mini-art appreciation course on the work of Piccaso

The goal of this series from The Metropolitan Museum of Art is provide an understanding of what makes an artist unique. Consequently, you will not find a large number of Picasso's paintings in this volume, but you will find over a dozen key works looked at in some detail. For example, "Guernica," which is probably his most famous painting, is presented as not only a two-page spread, but with five enlarged details. Other paintings looked at in detail are "Family of Saltimbanques," "Daniel-Enry Kahnweiler," and "Three Musicians," three paintings done in totally different styles, which, of course, is the essence of Picasso Richard Muhlberger tries to look at key facets of Picasso's long career, from the Blue Period (1902-05) to the playful abstraction of his later years.

Muhlberger focuses on how Picasso invented new ways of picturing things, even as he worked in a number of styles. We learn that Picasso showed objects from many viewpoints at a time, distorted shapes and colors to convey emotion, while also simplifying things into basic shapes. The strength of this series is that it gets down to the essentials for each artist, so that you get the sense their style is as recognizable as their signature. These books are not really intended as introductions to artist like Picasso, Monet and Degas, but as more advanced art appreciation lessons.

This book is the result of extremely thorough research by the best authors and scholars in the business. It contains masses of detailed information not previouly brought to light, and helps both serious researchers and the general reader alike due to its easy-reading style and interesting coverage. There is an excellent timeline, with superb illustrations and revelations of all those designers whose names and works had not yet been recorded. A must for all teachers of any of the areas of design in the book, such as Interior Design, Jewellery, Ceramics, Film, Textiles, Fashion, or Furniture. A superlative addition to the Design History world. I just wish I could see the accompanying exhibition.

Only a few designs for NARROW lots
Helpful Votes: 17 out of 17 total.

There were only a few designs for the truly narrow lot (ie. houses around 24' wide). Designing a home for a narrow lot is not necessarily the same as building on a small lot. I expected to see some creative designs - building up, angling out, bump outs, lofts, etc. The title of this book is a misnomer. It should be 200 SMALL Lot Home Plans (and I'm not sure that even works with very many of the designs - unless one wishes to fill the entire lot!).

Rebels Capture an Airship in the Ozarks

In this exciting "Twilight 2000" module, the players learn that a radical group living in the Ozark region of the United States have captured an airship and are using it to wreac havoc on the countryside. This entertaining module provides information about the Ozarks region, the bandits, and several different encounters. As a GM, I used this module with my gaming group, and it was very entertaining. I highly recommend this module for T-2000 players and GMs. There is enough encounters to create an entire campaign within the Ozarks region. Will the bandits succeed? Play this module and let your gaming group decide.
