This book is like your caddie on the history of the game. It takes you back to St. Andrews where it all started and then documents the birth and evolution of Golf in America--the game, the equipment, and the players. You get to meet all the great golf architects like C.B. Macdonald and all the great classic players like Gene Sarazen (who just passed away). Turns out Bobby Jones was worshipped in Scotland! The author wraps historical anecdotes in with some gorgeous color shots of courses from Augusta to Winged Foot. A must-read for true Golf fans!

A much sought after item (now out of print in any form), this book features over 200 pages of detailed text and photos (some rare) on the early history of the home of The Masters Tournament. The book covers the Augusta club history, the legendary course itself, and the Masters Tournament. A wonderful book that really should be part of any comprehesive personal golf reference library.

The author is tough where he needs to be, but fair and often funny in the way he talks about the facilities he has visited and played. Presented in a convenient, pocket-sized format, this book has it all. You get an insider's review of each golf facility in Nevada from the perspective of golfers of all abilities, as well as women, juniors, and seniors. There are also spot-on recommendations for aprés-golf activities in that famed land of sagebrush and sin. A top-to-bottom ranking of every Nevada course, plus fun specialty lists make this an indispensible resource and a very enjoyable read.

I wish we had something like this for the top U.S. courses

A superior guide to 25 of the top courses on the other side of the pond. Covering all the classic courses in the UK and Ireland -including St. Andrews (Old), Turnberry (Ailsa), Gleneagles (King's), Carnoustie, Royal County Down, K Club, Birkdale - it does include a couple of strange selections - notably Nick Faldo's Chart Hills and The Belfry (Brabazon). A welcome inclusion is Prestwick, not a Open course anymore, but still a wonderful links course in any age. Ballybunion is the glaring omission, as Strokesport haven't yet made it there to chart the course.

That minor gripe aside, each course is covered in loving detail - with wonderful graphics for each hole that clearly provide all you need to know before stepping out to play. Full yardages are provided; hazards, contouring and obstacles are clearly marked; and a brief but informative course overview advises the many options for playing each hole, depending on conditions, ability, etc. Each course is introduced with a few historical anecdotes as well as details of major tournaments played there. The well-chosen color photos simply entice you to jump on the nearest plane to any one of these wonderful destinations. From reading this, and observing each courses' design, it is clear that all are intriguing venues in their own right.

In sum, brilliant for course guidance and equally satisfying as an armchair reference for cold winter nights indoors.

The most read book of all in my bookshelf.

As a club racer this book has inspired me the most. The insight (as far as I know) of racing, the people and the stress of a racing driver alone in the car is exact. This book covers one racers career from racing school to a couple of pro Trans-Am races. And the chapter of the first race as a mechanic for a new Trans-Am team is a must to read for every aspiring race car owner (/driver). The chapter on the 'fair' test of the 70's musclecars is a good insight into how to bend rules. Reprint it, my copy is falling apart.

This book will help you improve your backstroke and technique, among other things. Get inside tips from some of the best pro-golfers around. It's really an easy read and it made me want to run out to the course to practice.

Not your typical golf instructor. This man has a way of explaing the golf swing that is pure genius. Nothing like the "modern" instructors that you see on the golf channel. Eddie Merrins can take one of the most complicated things in the world (the golf swing) and make it simple for you. He's beyond guru. This guy is in the mold of Harvey Penick, very calm and smart. If you hate tapes like "The 8 Step Swing", (which is also great), you'll love Eddie Merrins. I truely believe that your game will improve after watching this video series.

This is a wonderful collection of interesting stories and tidbits of information....kind of an "Everything you always wanted to know about the Masters but were afraid to ask." I was surprised--quite pleasantly--at the inclusion of so many quotes straight from the sources I wanted to hear from: Jones, Snead, Nicklaus, Watson, Palmer,Woods....It really seems like a peek into a secret society! And it's a lot of fun to re-tell these stories on the course on Saturday mornings.

Golf is best understood by the memories we have playing the game. I found the questions helped me remember the fond times playing golf. Enjoy the answers you will get when you present this book to your friends. After another season of golf passes by, the questions in this book helped me and my friends to put the season in perspective.

This book is a joy to read. I've been in these situations far to often and unfortunately never encountered the "TEAM". I'm afraid I'd wear out poor Sarge. The illustrator did a marvelous job bringing these characters to life. I found myself day dreaming during the read, imaging all kinds of situations I'd been in and how MacDuff and his team would have helped extracate me. I though I'd fall off my chair laughing when MacDuff said Jake looked like a zeppelin. There are a lot of great one liners in this book I'll certainly use. The author's sense of humor is as he says, "slightly off centered". He is obviously an avid golfer because he did a great job of describing these characters and the need most golfers have for them. I think golfers and non golfers alike will find this a great read. This story would make a great animated series for TV.
