Just finished reading Payne at Pinehurst--couldn't put it down.

I'm a big golf fan and that U.S. Open ranks as the best I've seen. The detail Chastain goes into was fascinating in describing Payne Stewart's path toward claiming golf's ultimate prize Chastain obviously knows his subject well and has a way with words. I'd highly recommend this book to anyone, and not just golfers.

Performance Golf: Developing And Perfecting Your Golf Game is a thorough, systematic guide to improving one's golf game. Written by a professional golf player and a licensed specialist in school psychology, Performance Golf covers everything from the physics and biomechanics of golf swings and golf equipment, to the uses of vision, imagery, reflexes, and neuro-linguistic programming as it affects one's golf swing. Physical and mental strategies of golf are broken down in elaborate detail, and an appendix reminds the reader of the rules of golf - namely, what one is and is not allowed to do on the quest to the final hole. Performance Golf is a superbly well-rounded reference, highly recommended for golf enthusiasts of all levels of expertise who are actively seeking to perfect their game, or who have aspirations of turning their golfing pastime into a profession level sports performance.

Dick Durrance has come through with a spectacular follow up to his first book, "Golfers." In "The PGA Tour," Durrance combines his beautiful and evocative photos to give you a real inside view of life on the tour. From the incredible Tiger Woods image early in the book to the rows of early morning mowers preparing a fairway for the coming event, the book makes you feel like you are a part of the tour. A great gift for any golf player or fan of the tour. I highly recommend it.

I was rummaging through a book store on vacation and saw this one on the shelf. It looked interesting and I figured it would at least give me something to read for a few days. I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it and have now re-read it several times.

Bottom line: This is a very good book for the more analytical student of the game. It is a great choice for the intermediate or advanced golfer looking to refine his or her swing without risking yet another swing change by going to a pro. If you have a video camera and want to look at details of your swing, this book will be a terrific support tool. What is demonstrated looks to be a so-called "modern swing" with two-plane technique as is used by the vast majority of golfers.

Best features: There are 176 photos as counted by the author and publisher. The format makes for fast reading and easy understanding yet it is not a simplistic book aimed at beginners.

All aspects of the setup and swing are described in text and demonstrated in photographs. In areas where there is room for misinterpretation or where errors are common, typical mistakes in setup or swing are also clearly demonstrated. While you will get maximum benefit from the book if you do have a video camera, the latter is not necessary to get plenty of help and ideas from the material.

If you are analytical and have played the game for awhile, you might want to give Michael Breed's book a try. My only reservation for beginners is that I think the material might overwhelm the novice though the photos would be of benefit. Best wishes.

I had a serious back spasm after too much golf and exercise. My golf instructor recommended Pilates. I bought this book and one other about pilates for golf. I read and started the exercises in the proper sequence and in less than 2 weeks was amazed by my new core strength and stability. After a month my golf game and endurance were really improving and my back soreness was gone. It's been over 3 months now and I'm hooked on Pilates for life. This book progressively takes you from the basics to the advanced. All exercises are thoroughly explained and illustrated. I highly recommend it to any golfer of any age. I wish I'd have found it years ago.

For those that love the The Sandhills of North Carolina, this is a must have for any golf history buff's library! It is an exhaustive and thorough history of the Sandhills region. It has tons of pictures (many of them full-color) and diagrams. It is full of all types of surprising details - so I would advise you to actually read it rather than make it just a coffee-table book. This is huge, heavy book and worth the price once you get it in hand.

Planning the Ultimate Golf Vacation should be on every golfer's book shelf. It will save you hundreds if not thousands of dollars in disappointment, enabling you to be an "insider," with invaluable information about how to plan and enjoy a golf vacation. Don't even think about going on a golf vacation without first reading this book!

Dr. Jaffee's "Play Golf Forever", is one of the best books I have read about golf and the body. We are avid golfers that plan on playing for along time. This book contains a wealth of information that is so important to the body and a successful fun game of golf! The way it is written made it easy to understand. My wife and I feel that any golfer would really enjoy this book!
