I bought this book ... and lost it before I got to use it.

I was elated when I found it on this site, and at less than half the price I paid for it in the store!

I am the Ladies Day Chairman at my club, and I am planning our year around the games in this book. I love it, and so do my ladies.

It came sooner than they told me, as well. I am grateful. Thank you.

I have used this little golf game book for years. I first ordered it many years ago and sent it to a friend. I recently ordered another for myself as I play golf and we are always looking for new games to play.

This book also give many golf terms, rules, betting games and etiquette so it has many features that new women golfers can use.

I found this incredible interview regarding how the game of Golf has changed over the years. It focuses on how modern golf courses have become much easier than they were meant to be. You wouldn't believe the evolution! If you have any interest in the history of Golf, this is a must read. If you want to become even more knowledgeable on the subject, scroll to the bottom of the interview and get in touch with the author. After reading, I guarantee you will be able to lead the most interesting discussions and impress your friends!

Mike Hurdzan's Golf Greens is not an easy read straight through from cover to cover because it is highly technical. But I did it and I'm glad. It searches the subject in far greater depth of detail and pictorially than anyone has ever done before. Great coverage! And it doesn't always simply "sell the conventional line". I learned lots from it, though before thought I was already pretty well experienced in this important matter. I recommend this book to all golf course developers, contractors, maintenance superintendents and other golf course architects for learning much more about golf greens.

I was a novice golfer, got Golf Mag, watched some tv, you know the score. This book straightened out my swing, has a lot of useful stuff for the wannabe golfer. Cheaper than all those pros' books, this is a compilation of the best lessons.

I got lost in this book--in a good way. There's so much there: it is sometimes hilarious (1st Chapter-"Golf is From Stan" had me laughing out loud in the coffee shop); other times touching and profound (chapters--I forget which ones--on golf guru Whatney Woods and final chapter. This book is obscene, irreverent, deeply spiritual and, as I said, very funny. I'll probably go back to it often.

I found this book very enjoyable. The author takes you on a fun yet thought provoking journey. It is an interesting mixture of deep thought, spiritual conflict and pure mullarky. I especially enjoyed the golf sonnets that introduce each chapter. T.T. Patterson offers a creative, yet twisted perspective on the game so many of us love and hate. I highly recommend this book for golfers and non-golfers alike.

Excellent read -- not a single bogey on the scorecard.

Not only does the book have useful material, it's an amusing read. And the author is not afraid to butcher a sacred cow when the situation calls for it.

A pleasant surprise was all of the up-to-date information on lodging, restaurants, traffic shortcuts and Vegas protocol (i.e. when to tip and not to tip). Strong enough read that even a desultory golfer will find value in this book.

I recommend this book to anyone who plans on spending some coin to play golf in Las Vegas. And if you have played you know how expensive it can be. Well this ultimate guide book might save you some coin. The in depth reviews are witty and well written by someone who is a golfer. Great tips on everything from how to get to the course to where to stay and where to eat. Besides reviews of the courses , the Eagle to Snowman rating system is great too. The book is an "Eagle"!

Once you pick up this magnificent volume, whether merely desiring a beautiful coffee table conversation piece or to plan out that serious pilgramige you've always dreamed about taking, this book will become the centerpiece of your golf library.

Lovingly photographed, colorfully and painstakingly written and filled with every side piece of necessary information, this volume could really be titled, "All you need to know about American Public Golf."

No detail is omitted and every aspect of travel and vacation life (save airfare) is analyzed, from dining to sightseeing to lodging. Begger and king, cactus lover or flower power-ite can select a journey uniquely suited to their lifestyle, either by taking the book on the trip with them or curling up with it by the fire for those winter golf dreams.

No stone is left unturned and even golf shopping is explored, from the giant superstores of Myrtle Beach to the outlets in Scottsdale. Only Alaska escapes this volumes eye.

True conessieurs will cherish the detailed descriptions of all the great courses, from Troon North to Bethpage Black and Pebble Beach to Sawgrass, but also revel in the charm of the lesser known but equally enchanting tracks such as Pumpkin Ridge (Ghost Creek), Barton Creek, New Seabury (Blue), Ventana Canyon, Coeur D'Alene, and Bandon Dunes.

This is the standard by which all others golf travel books will be judged!

With breathtaking photographs and detailed descriptions of the best holes, I was able to relive the courses I have been lucky enough to play and plan for those that I haven't. The guide walks you through courses state-by-state, with pictures, ratings and descriptions of all. I was impressed that the editors chose to include some courses that didn't quite make the top 100, and even refrenced expansion plans at some of the country's great resorts.

Furthermore, dining, entertainment, lodging and shopping highlights are presented so that you may plan for your entire getaway.

Based on the accurate representation of the courses that I have played, I trust the editors recommendations to visit the other courses listed. An A-Plus for vivid descriptions and dazzling photography that makes me yearn for warmer weather.

I am a 5 handicap and have over 300 instruction books. I read this book and immediately improved my game. It is all about one simple move...how you use the left shoulder. I can't believe everyone doesn't teach this way. What a shame.

Well worth the time.

He de-mystifies all the complicated swing thoughts that swarm in one's head. Though it does take some time to groove the swing he prescribes, I can feel the positive effects already after one practice session. If nothing else, the backswing is a keeper.

I have a golf library -- much of it is too technical to read in the evening. And it seems every author their own technique -- that's about 100 techniques so far! If my body could do what the drawings illustrate, I would give up golf and become a male model! This book is different. It's simple. It's direct. It has pictures, not drawings! It's layout is totally unimaginative, making it easy to read and use. About every other page is a post it note to remind myself why I do what I do when I do it so I won't do it anymore. I guess I love this little book, after all, I have just written my fist Amazon review ever!

This is the greatest consciousness raising and clearest golf instructional book I've ever read. I couldn't put it down! It is written in the spirit of a Zen Master: clear, concise, to the point. It created vivid pictures for me to follow...I've spent thousands of dollars on lessons, books, and videos, but nothing compares to Golf Secrets for High Handicappers. Unquestionably, this is it!

Straight Down the Middle
Helpful Votes: 2 out of 2 total.
Review Date: 2001-07-05
This easy-reading golf guidebook offers advice that is "straight down the middle" and has long-lasting impact. Quite simply, this book is about "mind over mechanics". Similar to most beginning golfers, I was concentrating too hard on my stance, my grip, my backswing, the sweetspot, and my constant slice, to ever begin to enjoy the game. There was just too much to remember to ever get it right. I would concentrate on what was going wrong, which would only exaggerate the problem on the next swing! After reading this book, I stopped focusing on the 47 essentials of a perfect golf swing and started to get in the right mindset to actually enjoy the game. This book gave me the attitude adjustment I needed to approach the game with inner confidence and the self-management skills that are the building blocks for enjoyment of this sport. My game has improved exponentially by understanding and applying Levasseur's 10 basic principles of golf, rather than being concerned about the detailed mechanics of the swing. I have been playing now for over three years, and have yet to be on the course without the voice of Levasseur's golf secrets helping me through a tough situation. Golf is still the most humbling experience, and I remain a high handicapper. But I am now able to hit the ball straight down the middle, and I know I will soon be looking for Levasseur's secrets for middle handicappers.
