This book was given as a corporate gift to the executives in leui of a bonus. Golly...thanks boss. But seriously, if I wasn't going to get ten grand in cash, I'm very happy I at least got this book.

I have lots of country club friends, or guys who I really only have talking about golf in common with, but I'm not going to buy them a titleist shirt and they have all the gimmicks or gear they'll ever need. This book is perfect for them - the person who has everything, but definitely not this! Anyone would love this book, not just golf lovers, and I have one on both my coffee tables - the beach house and the main one. Mostly, its something unique. Can't miss.

The combination of the best courses and the best golf artists is oustanding. this collection will be wanted by both golfers and artists alike. The presentation is superb. Buy this book for someone you love. they'll love you even more!

The finest collection of the history of American golf courses. Of all the art history books in my collection, "Fine Art of America's Fairways" is the most often opened and admired. Looking forward to another addition.

Lots of great (and courteous) insider stories about the the Club; the creek, the community power fights about the creek; about great golfers, the caddies; the role of women; the founders of the club; the author's learning golf; rubbing elbows with Washington big whigs.

I know the author personally; I never dreamed her book would be interesting; I certainly never expected to be glued to her book, but it is a gem. I've got a couple of golfing buddies in mind who will want to read this book.

The story about the golfer who would "never" play with a woman was great...he parted with a dollar of two.

The "ownership" of the caddies, the nicknames of caddies and the nicknames given by caddies to their "horses" was fascinating.

The stories about the club president show a man "bigger than life."

Perhaps some of you know what trunk bangers are...now I know.

This is a terrific book written by a member's wife and their daughter. I am a big golf fan and have read several books about Augusta National and the Masters in recent years, but this one has an entirely different angle--a woman's perspective, and an insider-woman at that. The authors are respectful of the club, but they also are open in offering dozens of refreshing anecdotes that are funny and border on irreverent. There are also a bunch of photos in the book depicting the golf course from a candid viewpoint.

It's full of real inside stories of the Club, its founders, the grounds, the caddies, the famous players.

I know the author personally and figured her book would be interesting but did not expected to be glued to it. The wording contained many of the unique phrases used at the National and un golfing. I could not put the book down.

I am not a golfer, but my dad was and I have heard him day dream about golf; I've seen him high on 72 and down on 90; it seems the author got to the point she day dreamed about sandtraps, the rough, the fairways, how she would handle different shots.

Stories about personal encounters with famous golfers and politicians were great. The stories about the caddies and their betting, "ownership" of golfers, their nicknames were fascinating.

The stories about how one gets into the club gives the Augusta National a sense of intrigue.

The stories about the president of the club presented a man bigger than life, who put fear into the hearts of the wealthy and powerful.

Fishing stories, access to the club during the Masters, access to the club during off season were all highly readable and clearly inside, non-public, unpublished views into a closed society.

That only a few people were there at a time off season was amazing; there is/or was a wonderful wine cellar; there were no socials unrelated to golf and no 5 somes.

This is a wonderful book of private information that every golfer will enjoy, buy 2 of (one to keep and one to give away).

This is "the" source for a begining golfer. Foreget the mags, videos, instant fixs, etc. Study the book, take 5 lessons, practice ... save a lot of time getting up to speed

This book is helping me with all golf's topics (swing, clubs and strategies). I love this book and I return to it every time that I need look for "the way..." I use it to put my comments.
It necessary to mention that Amazon have made a mistake with the author's name, because the book is by Vivien Saunders, and Peter Allis is who wrote the introduction.

If you could only buy one book on golf this should be the one. This book is well-written with easy to understand illustrations and explanations. Perfect to get the beginner up and running or for the advanced golfer to get back on track. Every golfer should have a copy, I highly recommend it.

Easily the best golf guide I've ever read. As a horrible golfer myself, this guide helped improved my game incredibly. It contains everything from bad lines, history of the game, club types ... you name it. The only guide you'll ever need

I've been playing golf for about 3 years now. This book helped my golf game come together and I review it before I play or practice. It is like a pocket-size dictionary for golf. I even carry it in my golf bag in case I get into trouble on the course. If you want to start shooting lower scores, you must practice, practice, practice. This book will be a valuable guide to keep you focused. I read this book for the physical aspect of the game and Golf Is Not A Game Of Perfect for the mental aspect.

Here is a coffee table book that is worthy of reading as well as enjoying the pictures and illustrations. Well conceived with wit and wisdom of the players, peripheral personalities, and the low down on the Low country courses.
Written with an obvious love of the game, and a way with words, the author entertains us with interesting profiles as well as incisive reviews of the courses. Who knows ...... it may even take a few strokes off your score as you are forewarned about the hazards that will be encountered.
Great book for the local Low landers and those who may visit the area.

Fabulous and funny essays about golf and golfers, coupled with insightful reviews of the area's courses. A must read for anyone planning to partake of the Low Country's golf course treasures.

I was given this book as a birthday gift, and thought it would just be a pretty picture book about the fine courses of Hilton Head Island and Savannah. That element is definitely present, but what surprised me were the funny essays about the game of golf the author intersperses with the course reviews and area personality profiles. It's really a nice read--entertaining and informative in the same breath.

Having never played golf in that neck of the country, I am sorely tempted to head down that way when I'm next on vacation. Zuckerman does a great job in making these courses come alive and his style of writing is breezy and fun --and with great insight into the sport of golf.

I've been playing golf in the Hilton Head-Savannah area for several years, and this is a truly excellent representation of the courses, people and situations any visitor will encounter there.
The photos and drawings are really nice, and the text is both funny and compelling. I would recommend this book to any fan of golf in this area.

This is much ado about nutting, and it is fun, relevant readers to golfers. We can relate maybe not so much to all of the eccentricies, but boy can we relate to the golf fever illustrated.

From the search for the secret, to aids, to collecting, to playing in all conditions at all times, et al, this is certainly an entertaining collection, and one to add to one's book addiction, I mean collection.

The Head Nut certainly is deserving, and the array of famous and not-so is highlighted for me by several nut incidents which make my "nut all of fame" -- E.M. Vanderweghe who literally had his magic grip frozen to the club in the auto drive from the range to the course (talk about losing it from the range to the first tee) and the guy who mistakenly locks his rental car keys in his bag in the trunk with only ten minutes before tourney teeoff, then prying open a path to his clubs, removing them one-by-one in a bloody mess. You'd wouldn't believe in any of this if you haven't already gotten the bug.

Nuts to all of you! This is good stuff!

"Golf Nuts" is a book about people who share a common passion. Head Nut #0001 - Ronald Garland goes into grave detail about how he established the "Golf Nuts Society" and some of the unique characters that belong to this growing organization. This is a great book if you know someone who is obssessed with the game of golf. Its very easy to read. The sample test in the back of the book to see if you should be committed is hysterical, the glossary and world records will leave the reader in stitches because only those searching for the "secret" will understand. I loved the book so much that I joined the "Golf Nuts Society" -- #3177.

Great book. Very funny. These guys love the game and are good at it. Very entertaining read. Can't wait to give it as a stocking stuffer this year.

This is an excellent book. Very enjoyable. I am so glad this book came out in time to give as Christmas presents. Ron Garland and Brian Hewitt are terrific!! I recommend this book to anyone who loves golf!

the glossary is worth the price of the book. absolutely pure golf slang.

This book is an incredible resource for those of us play golf 'by-the-book'. I just cringe when I see another golfer in my group teeing up a ball on a clump of grass in the fairway or kicking a ball out of a bad lie. I generally try to avoid playing with people who can't seem to play by the rules. So if you're one of those people, buy a copy of this book and learn the rules. Pickard's book is probably the easiest way to get that done.

While the game of golf can be quite difficult to play, applying the rules correctly to any given situation can be even more difficult.
Mr. Pickard's book covers an infinate number of situations and lets the golfer know where to find the correct rule that would al]pply.

I highly recommend this book to anyone serious about learning how to correctly play the game of golf.

Want to try to understand golf rules from the USGA fine print book? Good luck! This book allows easy lookup of the most complicated rules. If you read Golf Magazine, they have a rules article every month. Use this book, and you'll always get the right answer.

After reading and reviewing Golf Rules Finder, my first reaction was "WOW" to the number of rules I've dismissed over the years...and I've been playing golf for a while. I feel that this book can be a very helpful tool to any level golfer, whether they are beginners or scratch golfers. This book was written in a way that makes it easy to navigate through the rules and quickly answer your question. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking to learn and/or review the rules of golf the easiest and quickest way possible.

I felt somewhat apprehensive about using this book on the golf course. I found out it wasn't like any other rule book I had tried to use in the past. It was very easy to find the ruling for my situation. The concept behind Golf Rules Finder seems almost too simple. It amazes me that I haven't run across a rule book like this before.

Even though the reader is not an avid golfer, she does like to watch golf. What really impressed me about Dorsel's book is that it has techniques that one can apply to any sport, job or setting goals.

The main point from this book is that one should pay attention to their thinking, emotions and actions. Usually if something goes wrong it is related to one of the above. In the first chapter, "the nine R's of golf" are discussed, some of them being: realism; responsibility; relaxation and reinforcement. Regardless of what your goal is, to be a better golfer or better on your job, the nine R's can help you.

The book is written in a fashion that it is easy to read and understand. You can take points from each chapter and apply them immediately. In addition, each chapter gives specific examples of the principles discussed.

I would recommend "Golf: The Mental Game" to beginning golfers, as well as other individuals who want to make positive changes.

I just read this book Golf The Mental Game on the thinking side of your golf game. Tom Dorsel has written an helpful guide to improving your golf game from every angle. Using your brain to think your way around the course, not to make crazy impossible shots. Every age golfers will be able to find something that will help them in their golf game.

I have been playing golf for over 50 years and am always looking for more ways to stay active and my golf game enjoyable. Tom Dorsel is a psycologist and a golfer so he know the importance of using your mental ability to improve your game. He quotes many Pro golfers in how they stay mentally sound during their games like Tiger Woods and several other pro golfers.

If you are a golfer you will find many helpful hints to improve your game and make it more enjoyable.

I spent numerous months in a slump/Yips/Shanks after achieving a respectable level of play. After this time period of self searching, I decided what was missing was the mental aspect/strategy of playing (versus the mechanics).

Many of the 'mental strategies' cover the 'visual imagery' of the perfect shot or emphasizing positive thinking. Those aspects covered by half a dozen books only scratch the surface of this underemphasized aspect of the game. I have listened to numerous 'motivational speakers' and advisors to the professionals.

This is one of the most comprehensive books on strategy, formulating a plan, and maintaining that high level of play. This book is the road map to success in this challenging game.

Dr. Tom Dorsel covers every aspect of the game regarding choosing equipment, preparing mentally and physically before a round, how and what to practice, course management, golf strategy, golf myths, and creating a plan to achieving one's goals. Whether you're a beginner, double digit/single digit/scratch/professional, this book (if you can assimilate all of the information) will elevate your game. He covers how to achieve your goals with a summary of objectives and illustrative vignettes in a clear and entertaining style.

This sensible approach to the thinking approach to the game helps make you 'minimize the imperfections' in your game.

This is the Modern Day Approach to the Mental Game of Golf. I highly recommend it.

Cannot help but think this is a book Tiger Woods would agree with, since he seems (from all I have read) to know much of what the author has written. Like being eductated on which clubs etc fit you. Diet, rest, being focused. Visualizing the course, and how you will play it. Simple a great book with so much useful information.

Excellent book. I have played for quite a while and sometimes have not understood the cause and effect of flaws in the swing. This book explains them all. From grip to follow through.

I was chosen as one of the top golf instructors of the nineties in L.A. and Palm Springs and many of Ms. Lupo's techniques are similar to what I taught. I particularly liked the drawings by her husband. A couple of her swing ideas are a little off the mark but most are accurate and very good.

I have read mucho golf books and this one is great for telling you how to perform fundermentals rather than just identifying what is a geat swing method. I have been working with this book for a month and my swing is getting better, better, and better. Also consistancy is taking hold. The illustrations are 1st class...... I am an 8 handicap and dropping....

The book focuses on the fundamentals of the golf swing in a manner that beginners can understand, but with enough detail and subtlety that even an experienced golfer will benefit. For example, beginners will appreciate the clear descriptions and pictures that cover the basic setup and mechanics, while seasoned golfers will appreciate the discussion of "swing thoughts" and other mental aspects of preparing a golf swing. The emphasis on developing a solid, dependable setup and swing is invaluable. This is a no-nonsense book; if you follow the lessons and practice, you really will master a great golf swing! I know, after 20 years of trying, I took the time to rebuild my swing according to this book; in one season I dropped from mid 90's to low 80's. It could have happened faster if I had practiced more...

I was a Physiology Teaching Fellow in a university and an avid golfer since the time I was about 12 years old. Since that time, I have read many books on golf and the mechanics of the golf swing. In general, I've been frustrated by poor and incomplete descriptions in the past. This is because I think most great golfers don't have the ability to articulate what the actually are doing when they are making a swing. Their knowledge is embodies and underneath awareness. This book is unique in that it provides that missing information and presents it in a logical, clear and comprehensive manner including all the important details.

In addition, this book is not so technical that it is unreadable by the average person. All of the concepts, even the more suble or complex are presented in a straightforward and concise manner. I believe this is a monumental achievement and a valuable contribution to the golf literature.

This text will help you to understand EVERY aspect of a good golf swing, why it's important, what can go wrong and how to make corrections. There is not a single aspect of the swing or any element to it that is left out from feet placement, movement around various joints, etc. It also teaches you how to feel these things in your body and raised your awareness of how different things going wrong feels.

In my opinion, this book should be on every golfer's shelf.... amateur and professional alike. It is a rare gem and one that will help you to improve your game. While it won't take the place of golf lessons by an excellent teacher, it will help you to digest what your pro is trying to tell you and give you the concepts you need to make improvements on your own.

The only reason I don't give it 5 stars is because I thought it contained full stories (like the ones in the Chicken Soup series)and not simply quotes, which by the way are sometimes moving. I liked to read how famous people remembered their teachers, we don't usually get to know that information.

A former student of mine sent me this book with an inscription that made my day -- make that, my year! After reading the personalized inscription a dozen times, I started reading Mr. Shribman's book. What a delight. The book made me remember why I became a teacher.

I picked up I REMEMBER MY TEACHER because I liked the cover. I bought two copies because once I started reading it, I had to send copies to the college professor and the high school coach who inspired me. This book was the perfect opportunity to thank them after more than 15 years for the support and advice that still means so much to me.

Perfect book to make teachers feel good--and to make students remember why they loved their best teachers. There is something here for everyone--from the A student to the less successful, from college mentors to grade school inspirers. The famous and the more common former students share their reminisces with humor, with pride, but mostly with thanks. A great gift and a great read.

Part anecdote, part declaration, "I Remember My Teacher: 365 Reminiscences of the Teachers Who Changed Our Lives" will bring back the memory of your own teachers: what they said, what they did and who they are.

It caused me to remember back to my own fifth grade teacher, who, upon completing the year, wrote me a quick note which encourages me to this day. You, too, will think about your kindergarten teachers and learning your letters, or the guy who taught you the software used in your job.

Shribman uses examples from celebs galore, but the important part is learning about the teachers who helped mold the leaders of today. Tomorrow's leaders are sitting in a third grade classroom across the world, and a great teacher is guiding him or her.

Teachers can read this and be encouraged and excited that what they do does matters. Students will read this and see that their teacher's unorthodox ways and persistence in teaching makes a difference.

I fully recommend "I Remember My Teacher: 365 Reminiscences of the Teachers Who Changed Our Lives" by David M. Shribman.

One of the best golf coaching books I have read, and I've read a few trying to learn this game. Instructions, both the photos and the written are clear and easy to both follow and understand. I have had fellow club members ask me if I had been having lessons from the club pro as they have been amazed at my improvement over the last few weeks. Once again thank you Mr Smith.

I have been getting lessons from Marshall for many years now, but do not live as close to him as I once did. This book puts me right out on the practice range with him. Marshall gives you a simple approach to an incredibly complex game. The instructions in this book give you the tools to keep your natural swing while incorporating a few essential principles that allow you to elevate your game no matter what level you play at now.

This is by far the very best book I have read on golf and how to improve your came. Marshall Smith is simply wonderful and his book is easy to understand. Its easy to tell this man has been around golf for a long time.

In this book Marshall Smith a golf pro for over 60 years gives his take on the golf swing.
He does not try to reinvent or offer a new scientific approach to the golf swing.
Instead he demonstrates to the reader with easy to follow tips practice drills and advice what her considers the important points to learn in a golf swing.
In my opinion this is one of the best instruction books I have read.
It has helped my game no end and is worthy of a place in any golfers library.
