I went to medical school with the author. He advised me that the purpose of his work was to inspire and entertain. With "Johnny Bright, Champion" he has done precisely that. I found the book to be very enjoyable and recommend it for everyone.
If you are looking for a nice "feel good" story, this is one that should fulfill your need.
While this story is technically a biographical novel, it closely follows the "real" story of Johnny Bright, whose career was analogous to that of Jackie Robinson. If Johnny Bright had chosen to play in the National Football League rather than the Canadian Football League, his name would, undoubtedly be of greater recognition at this time. Although Johnny Bright labored in relative obscurity, he was too great not to be remembered at this time.

This book is one of the best I have ever read. It gives you more information about him, more then the newspapers could give you in 5 years. He tells you about all the good times he had at Liverpool being both manager and player. Explaining some of the arguments as well. My dad has met Kenny in the late 70's. He went to go and watch Liverpool play and on the way home he got on the bus with the full squad. My dad also stayed with them and in the morning Kevin Keegan asked him to nip down to the chemist for him. So the helpful man my dad is he zoomed off to the chemist but only forgot the money!!! So he had to run all the way back for the money. Now back to Kenny Dalglish. The greatest footballer Liverpool have ever had. This book is one of a kind. I would reccommend anyone to buy this book.

KICK THE FOOTBALL, CHARLIE BROWN is a level 2 Ready-to-Read book. The book is written towards younger readers who are just starting to read more complex stories, learning different sentence structures, how to form paragraphs, and what a chapter is. The words in the story aren't incredibly complex, but instead of the type of repition that is found in the Ready-to-Read Pre-Level 1 and Level 1 books, the story follows a type of constructionist approach and builds on the words and phrases children already know to introduce new words, phrases, and forms.
This story is based off of the Charles Schulz' famous PEANUTS strip. Judy Katschke's text and Nick & Peter LoBianco's illustrations remain true to the spirit and intent of PEANUTS. In this particular story, Charlie Brown is once again attempting to kick the football away from Lucy who always pulls it away at the last moment. Time and time again he attempts and fails. At the end good old Chuck appears to have learned a lesson, but so do the rest of his friends.

Must Read for Coaches Wishing to Build Solid Program

This book is a Must Read for any coach, athletic department administrator or other person looking to find the "secrets" for building and sustaining a lasting National Powerhouse Program in any sport or any business organization.
IU has had it share of great coaches and great sports programs, such as Swimming & Diving, Track and even the sport of Basketball (of which some of you might have read about over the years).
Here, Kathryn L. Knapp captures the essence of the IU Soccer team and its success over the past 41 years. Woven into the fabric of her story are the essential elements needed to achieve organizational success. It is about leadership, motivation and hard work from a "top down" and "bottom up" perspective.
Her story is about IU Soccer Coach Jerry Yeagley, who built the program from a mere local club sport to national prominence and, along the way, captured 6 NCAA Championships. Incredibly, every varsity-era player who came to IU and stayed 4 years enjoyed a trip to the College Cup (the Final Four of College Soccer). These teams made Yeagley the winningest coach in NCAA history and, in a fairy tale ending, won him a national championship in his final game as coach.
How did Yeagley do it? Read the book and hear about the challenges and obstacles that he had to overcome and choices that he made. What you will find is that the program was never about one man; it was always about people, at all levels of the organization. Players, parents, assistant coaches, trainers, equipment managers, students, sports campers, fans, alumni, coaching mentors, administrators, faculty, friends, media and neighbors: all drawn together by Marilyn and Jerry Yeagley and their children. Learn about the IU Soccer Family; it teaches life lessons.
If you are looking for a guide to leadership, then pattern your efforts after the principles of team-building, integrity and community shown by Kathryn L. Knapp. Success will follow you.

Kicking Off the Week by Wesley Hyatt is not only a good, concise history of the successful, long running Monday Night Football game and show, but also throws in a lot of meaty history and information of television networks, as well as the NFL and other professional football leagues in this time period as well.
Mr. Hyatt even gives a brief history of pre Monday Night Football network television in his first chapters which I found very informative. He covered in the first two chapters with the same amount of meaty information, what many other books take entire volumes to cover.
Mr. Hyatt gives insights on the varied personalities of MNF. For those of us who grew up watching Howard Cosell on Wide World of Sports and even his ill conceived variety show, it was great to learn more about the man.
If there is a weakness to the book, it would be the lack of a photographs section. Normally books of this type have a section in the center with photographs of the personalities involved. I'm not sure if this was the publisher's doing, or the author, but having a photo section would have made this book much better.
The only photos are on the front cover of this book. While images of Dandy Don Meredith, Frank Gifford and Fran Tarkenton doing the show are etched into my mind, I couldn't bring to mind some of the others announcers. It would have been great to see at least one photograph of short-time announcer Fred Williamson, as well as some of the other less well known sideline reporters.
But overall, "Kicking off the Week" is a fine history of the Monday Night Football show and is an excellent read. I recommend it highly.

The Hardy Boy's have a real mystery to solve here. A new football star comes into town and try's to still the show (Terry Golden). He is getting by with wverthing and people are getting hurt. Joe Hardy is on the field, " The quarterback finally threw the ball to Joe and terry golden cuts accross the field to catch the ball and just when the ball was about to get there Terry Golden hit Joe right in the back", So the Hardy Boy's have to find out what Terry Goldens deal is. This is going to be one good mystery. This story is set at Bayport Highschool. Joe and Jeff Hardy are two young boys who have to solve a mystery of a football superstar who is trying to get people hurt and no one else is doing anything about it.
There was all kinds of good things about this book. The author (Franklin Dixon) dis alot of good things with this book. He used great details and made you keep wanting to know the ending. The comparison to other books and genres is ok. It is one of the better Hardy Boy's mystery's. Mystery books to me is better than any love stories, action, or just about any other kind of book. This work compared to other work by this author is better than the others. It trys to get you in to the story better than the other one's. Also Franklin Dixon use's great language. He uses word that everyone can understand.
This book was a great book. I would advise you to read it if you like football and a good mystery to go along with it. This book is very easy to read. Me myself read the book chapters at a time. I say anyone can read this book and like it. It had me wonderign throughout the whole book. So if you want a good mystery to I would advise you to get and read this book.
