A GOOD READ!Review Date: 2008-05-18
One thing Cody always counted on, was his mom being in the stands cheering him on. His dad worked a lot and rarely made a game, but his mom never missed one. Unfortunatley, Cody's mom became sick with cancer and passed away. This event hit cody very hard. He felt kind of lost, angry, sad, and just all mixed up. He even lost his passion for football. He began to make bad plays, plays that hurt others on his team, and his coach got very upset. Cody was pulled from the starting line up and was replaced a player who wasn't near as good as he was. He got so depressed, he thought he might just quit all together.
Fortunately, Cody belonged to a good church. Even though his father hadn't been going since his mother died, Cody did, and had a good friend in his youth pastor Blake Randall. Through his counsel he helped Cody work through some of his feelings and to see how he might help himself. Cody then discovers a very helpful bible verse that starts him on his path to restoring his heart, as well as restoring some friendships that he hurt with his anger and attitude. The bible verse was:
Matthew 5:23-24 which reads - "Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift."
In the end, Cody comes to deal with his grief over his mom, and his other troubles. His dad even makes it to a big game which was the best ever.
I really enjoyed this book, and seeing how Cody worked out his problems. I would highly recommend this book to anyone, and give it 5 stars.

A brilliant book by America's top football writerReview Date: 2000-12-15
Sports Illustrated's Peter King is (in my humble opinion) tied with his colleague Paul Zimmerman for the title of America's No. 1 football writer. King provides a historical perspective that allows a comparison of great old-timers like Otto Graham and Sammy Baugh with today's stars like Brett Favre and Troy Aikman. King ranks the Top 50 quarterbacks in the history of the game and offers clear explanations for his selections.
I would also be remiss if I didn't mention the wealth of photographs provided in this book, which makes it a great gift idea for children who might not read the whole thing now but will surely treasure it for years to come. (I might just get an extra copy for my nephew.)
No football fan's bookshelf is complete without Peter King's Greatest Quarterbacks, the best football book to come along in years. As for the identity of Mr. Bukich, I wouldn't dream of giving it away here. You'll just have to buy the book.
