It was very informational!Review Date: 2002-11-15
Football rules by Don Shiffer was very informational. It taught me all about the rules of football. Did you know that you can tackle someone by the helmet and no penalty will be asessed? Another interesting fact I learned was that lineman could lock legs so that defenders could not get through.
My favorite sport to play and to watch is football. It has so strategy and mental thinking as well as physical contact. To me the game of football is 50% physical and 50% psycological. In this book it told me all about the referee signals used to call a penalty. This book was very helpful in telling me teqniques and strategies about every position in the game. The position I play is wide reciever and an interesting fact I learned was when a defender and the reciever caught the ball at the same time it was a complete pass! I think when you understand a game better you tend to do better. This book was well thought out and organized in a good fashion and that is why I think it was a effective learning tool.

Football Scouting MethodsReview Date: 2007-04-29
Originally teams were allowed a certain number of visits in order to scout the opposition. Steve Belichick was a master at this skill and always found small ways to give his teams an advantage. His skills were passed onto his son Bill who developed an even keener eye for scouting opponents tendencies, strengths, and weaknesses.
Today teams of course exchange game film and study that content instead of exchanging visits. The basic things they watch for however are still the same although the exact formations and play types change every decade of course. None the less the original questions and points of study that are outlined in this book were influential in their hey day and still of relevance today in concept.
Since the media mentioned this book it has become a hard to find commodity and has become something of a collectors item. I have an old copy that I keep in my football library. The schemes and diagrams are somewhat outdated (e.g. no more wide tackle six alignments) but the basic thought process is still relevant even today.
Reading this book will give you a good sense of the details that coaches zero in on and what Steve probably taught Bill as a young man many years ago.
