Football Books

Being a New England Patriots fan I decided to read this book and I liked it. It told about Drew Bledsoe from his childhood days to present day. It was very thorough and descriptive about the quarterback's life. If your a Drew Bledsoe fan you should pick up this book!

This is yet another WONDERFUL installment in the SOCCER CATS series.

Our 6-year old daughter is an avid and excellent reader. She loves the series.

We have given the book (and others in the series) as GIFTS to BOYS AND GIRLS aged 7-8 years and received only positive feedback from the children and their parents.

HIGHLY recommended FUN, funny and age-appropriate reading!

A wonderful book and a timely examination of the golden era of Gaelic football. Timely because the sport today just can't seem to match the games between Dublin & Kerry in terms of romanticism and improvisational brilliance.
The author does a trememdous job of revealing the human element behind the mythical achievements of these two incredible teams.
Anyone who lived through the rivaly was enriched by the experience. Two evenly matched teams, loaded with once-in-a-lifetime players, playing at the limit against each other for 5 unforgettable years.
As enjoyable as the insights and anecdotes are, for me the most rewarding aspect of the book is discovering the bonds and friendships that remain today between the two teams. The mutual respect was well earned but it's warming to see how they remain a feature of each other lives.
Hugely entertaining, funny and absolutely touching. I loved it.

This book is an excellent source for the true sports historian. Please note this book is of serious academic nature - there are no lionized descriptions of teams, coaches, or players, but instead a thoughtful and thorough analysis of the early origins of football, soccer, and rugby in the United States and Canada. Smith has broken down football into the components which he considers essential (carrying the ball and the system of downs) and explains how convention has held us from correctly identifying early field games as soccer/rugby/football. I myself have researched college football for nearly 20 years and I have long thought considering 1869 as the 'first' season was never fully correct since more than one sport can be traced to that game (and even before). Smith has done an excellent job of allowing me to see the picture more clearly. Very much looking forward to his follow up on football after 1883!

This book is considered to be among the best books written on football coaching technique in the last 30 years. It is geared for more advanced football programs (larger high schools and above)... It features detailed text analysis and covers team management principles as well as in-game strategies and tactics. A book that really should be part of any comprehensive reference collection for any coach and his staff. The book is now out of print in any form and has beecome quite a sought after text.

This is a great book even for me! While my son learns about famous players and play and practice strategies, I learn even the more subtle rules of the game. Well explained, well-illustrated, and very thorough.

I really enjoyed reading this book, because it goes from Green being so sad because her mom, dad, and sister died, and then she is happy. Well the story is about Green and her family live in a house near a big city. One day when her mom, dad , and sister go to the city to sell vegetables while Green stays home and works on the garden. When it is lunch time, she goes to the hill that overlooks the city to eat her sandwich. She notices that there are flames and smoke coming from the city. She hopes that her family is still alive because when her family left to go to the city she would not say goodbye or give her mom a hug. She just ignored her. After the incident in the city, Green waits for days for her family to come home. Green knows after a while that her family is not coming home and she decides not to be the quiet shy girl anymore. She now wants to be a girl who is a rebel and one that everyone is afraid of. She..........wait I can't tell you, you will just have to read this book, and you will really enjoy this book too if you like a book with a sad beginning and a happy ending!

This is a great book that displays Emmitt Smith's life and football career and his pursuit of Walter Payton's rushing record. The pictures in this book are very good since they are contributed by an official Cowboys photographer. The book also shows another side of Emmitt, his family life, that you probably wouldn't know even if you have been a fan of his for many years. By reading this book you really get the sense that Emmitt is a good man as well as being an extraordinary running back. I would recommend this book to all Cowboys fans and Emmitt fans.

I got this book because I'm a really big college football fan and I like the idea of learning how to cook better, but, truth be told, I'm not really very good at it. (I've never tailgated in my life, but love the bbq!) There are good tips in it for beginners without it feeling like the writer is talking down to you and the recipes that I've done have all come out GREAT without a lot of fuss. And the little sidebars by the ESPN guys are really funny, so I even read the whole thing. Who sits down and reads a COOKBOOK? Well, this one you can. I recommend it highly.
