Hoopmania has information that most basketball fans know, but what I found interesting was the new information. I like the way the book is organized, it made reading the facts and statistics easy. Before I read this book, I aready knew a lot about basketball trivia, but this book helped me learn much more. I never knew how basketball was invented.

This is one of few books that taught me to read. I love sportsso I read this book over and over and eventually became a goodreader. Another sports book that taught me to read was Soccer Sam. Iloved reading about Hakeem Olajuwon living in Nigeria, Charles Barkley's rough childhood, Shaq's shatterering the backboard, and about David Robinson going to the Naval Academy for college. I have probably read this book over one hundred times. This is defitinely one of the best books that I have ever read.

If you are a fan of the N.B.A. as I am, then you will thoroughly enjoy this colorful collection of NBA greats. I received it as a gift and I never get tired of looking through it. Any fan of photography will also enjoy this as well because many of these photos are just so breathtakingly beautiful. Everytime I view this collection (175 photos in all) I see something new and interesting. Walter Iooss Jr. has truly put together a treasure trove of photos and it's easy to see why he is one of the most well respected photographers that Sports Illustrated has ever had. If you love basketball or know someone that loves basketball this is a great book to own. It is also a rather well put together collage of NBA history and many of the photos brought back fond, vivid memories of my childhood idols. This is worth every penny and I was very lucky to receive it as a gift. (Thanks again mom!) I hope you enjoy it as well. I have a very good feeling you will!

Michael Garland's HOORAY JOSE! tells of a small mouse with big basketball star dreams. He longs to join the Mice Team in the park and practices hard - but he's never picked because he's too short. Then one day he gets his change, in this hilarious and moving story kids will readily enjoy.

My father was absolutely delighted to receive this book as a gift! He played high school basketball in Indiana in the 50's and he found that his team is pictured in the book (Columbus)! As he had no idea this book even existed it could not have been a more perfect gift.

This book is a good overview of basketball. It has a short history, playing tips, and information about some of the stars of the game. It's written in a magazine type format with lots of inset boxes and short blurbs. It's colorful and held my childs attention. I think this book is appropriate for all children up to about age 14 who want an overview of basketball.

I was introduced to this amazing book when Pat Williams talked about Coach Wooden at the end of a day long product seminar for Merrill Lynch Financial Advisors. If you ever have a chance to see Pat, he is one of the most intelligent, to-the-point and engaging motivational speakers I've ever seen. My only criticism of his inspiring book is the title: it would have been much simpler to call it "The Coach Wooden Catechism."
For Pat Williams fans, this is one of seven books in his "How To Be Like" series, which profile the virtuous characteristics of winners. A scholar and a gentleman, Coach Wooden himself got it right when he humbly stated, "I'm just an English teacher. Shouldn't I be writing a book about Pat Williams?"
Each chapter expands on the virtues that made Wooden the greatest basketball coach of the 20th Century. So, `if you want to be like Coach Wooden,' be a person of character, love God, love your family and other people. If you want to build knowledge and wisdom like Coach did, strive to be a teacher, learn from the good example of others, and read good books, lots of them. If you want to build winner teams like Coach, work hard to be a team player, be a leader, be disciplined and patient. If you want to be happy in life, strive for humility, master the `little things', keep things simple, be honest with yourself, and remember that in life, we reap what we sow.
Interspersed under each of these chapters are the testimonials of hundreds of sports legends offering their personal observations of the greatness Coach Wooden exemplifies. Where Williams and his co-author David Wimbish deserve great credit is the skill they demonstrate in weaving together these accolades and facts. Williams spoke to over 800 people to prepare this book. In spite of mountain of source material he accumulated, this book is a quick and impressive read. There are dozens of books about Coach Wooden, and many of them are excellent. As the parent of four basketball crazy boys, I strongly recommend this inspiring book for young adults and athletes in any sport.

I just finished reading this book by Mr. Banks and have to admit that it realistically shows and tells about the jobs around the NBA. Besides, he starts his book from school on, which should be especially motivating for those children that would like to have a career in and around the NBA. It's definaltely suitable for any age.

But other than just being comprehensive Kirchberg's book is also fascinating and well-written. She does an excellent job of keeping you interested by combining information on the cultural impact of Basketball as well as a bit of humor along the way. Hoop Lore effectively combines the history of a subject into a concise neat little packet.
A must read for anyone who loves basketball!
