Informative and entertaining introduction to shopping onlineReview Date: 2001-03-22
Jill's style is entertaining and the book is quick-moving. You won't realize how much information you've accumulated while enjoying reading about the ins and outs of shopping online!
I highly recommend this book for newbies to shopping online. Jill explains everything clearly step-by-step. She also includes how to shop at Ebay and other online auctions. Most newbies would prefer to start their online shopping experience with something a bit easier, like buying this book at Amazon, for example, but everything you need to jump into the Ebay auction world is there if you decide to do that!
The book discusses how to look at the "big ticket items" online as well - things like houses and cars and colleges! You can do research online even if you end up buying the product at the local mall.
Jill Freeze is visually impaired and she is a perfect example of how online shopping makes life easier for SO many people in SO many different situations. I have been shopping online for a few years now, and have bought stuff from lots of e-tailers, including Amazon (yes, it was the first, and my favorite!), Webvan, Ebay, Half.com, Lands End, Drugstore.com, and many others. There's very little that you can't buy online, actually!
Jill discusses how to research the item you're looking to buy - she gives you lots of websites to check, but I found that she left out a few of my favorites:
BizRate.com - gives detailed reports on the different online stores - comparing on-time delivery, easy navigation of the website, prices, quality of items sold, etc. Yes, Amazon is very highly rated on Bizrate.com!
DealOfDay.com - looking for a deal? Check out what special offers are available at the online store of your choice ($10 off a $50 purchase, for example!)
BestBookBuys.com - My favorite thing to shop for online (and off-line, for that matter!) is books, and this website is the best for finding which store has your book at what price. You type in the title, author, or ISBN number, and it looks at about 30 different bookstores online and comes up with an easy-to-understand chart giving you the price (lowest price first), shipping cost, tax in what states, and best of all - AVAILABILITY of your book! Many shopping bots leave out this important fact. You can see the bottom line price - including shipping, and how soon your book will get to you. If you find that Amazon is your best bet for your latest must-have book (and it often is, all things considered), just click on "Buy" and BestBookBuys.com will take you right to the book detail page on Amazon (or whatever other e-tailer you click on) and there you are! Before buying from a bookstore that you aren't familiar with, check it out at Bizrate first.
Thanks, Jill, for a complete guide to the wonderful world of shopping online!

A WONDERFUL HISTORICAL ROMANCEReview Date: 2006-05-09
Marguerite Bell
Authors Online, Ltd
40 Castle Street, Hertford SG14 1HR, England
Genre: Fiction/Historical Romance
ISBN: 0755200543, $18.95, 232 pp, 2002
Tears . . . I am still recovering from this poignant love story. I guess I'll always be a hopeless romantic, and Marguerite Bell knows how to work her magic. She is a consummate writer when it comes to the Napoleonic Era and will spark your imagination and passions.
The year is 1803. England and France have a tenuous peace at the moment. Little Letty Craythorne, sister to Sarah and daughter of the Admiral, agrees to marry Captain Oliver Westland of the British Navy who was jilted by sister Sarah. Immediately after the marriage Oliver leaves for Antigua without consummating the marriage.
A year later Letty is summoned to join her husband and during the voyage to Antigua, she is abducted by the French Captain Armand d'Anviers as war has begun between England and France. They sail the Atlantic together for two months until Captain Oliver Westland's ship arrives to reclaim his wife. Of course, Letty and Armand have discovered a truly passionate love, which has no hope for a life together.
The story is complex and rich with intrigue, human foibles, love and compassion.
The author doesn't miss a beat, and her rhythm carries you right along to a tearful, yet satisfying conclusion.
Other books by this author include: A Rose for Danger, The Devil's Daughter, Bride by Auction and The Distant Drum. The Pride of Eagles will be published sometime this year. She also writes under the name of Ida Pollock and books under this name include: The Gentle Masquerade, Lady in Danger, The Uneasy Alliance, Country Air and summer Conspiracy.
It is my opinion that Marguerite Bell's writing is of exceptional quality, and she is certainly an equal to Amanda Quick for historical romance. I believe her books are well known in England, and I wish her much success in the United States.

The humoristic passages however help us not to take things in the book to serious, allthough the whole subject of course is. The rapid course of events, the very original way in which characters are introduced and the whole plot make the book very worthwile reading!
I'm looking forward to the sequential book from the author.

Excellent Primer This Book Is on the Money for New TradersReview Date: 2001-03-18
The first part of the book provides a short historical perspective on the securities markets from the beginning until the present time (Sixth Market refers to self-directed traders who trade electronically). The book also contains a 14 page glossary and a list of recommended reading, selecting a broker, and getting the right computer and trading setup.
More than half the book is devoted to the Six Steps necessary to prepare for trading. It is a comprehensive approach that includes:
1. Building Self-awareness ( goals, trading style, success factors, and discipline) 2. Learning Market Fundamentals (markets, orders, Level II, short sales, trading rules, selecting broker) 3. Understanding Charts (market psychology, candlesticks, support and resistance, moving averages) 4. Trading From Reliable Chart Setups (High probability patterns, trading plan, gaps, exits) 5. Mastering Your Trading Plan (risk and reward, money management, discipline) 6. I Don't Have the Willpower to be Disciplined (self-directed study)
Theey to trading is a solid education, discipline, and a trading plan. That is what this book covers, and that is why is great for beginners. There is no fluff in this book or war stories just the facts. I highly recommend this book to those just starting out in trading.

On another note, I particularly like the way Dr. Haas (by the way, he's a much loved father) incorporates information not just about online child molestation, but about other topics - such as female harassment and hidden attributes of the internet - , too. Little stories inside, coverage of technical jargon, dedication to quality, as well as being an amazing example of a book that is both down to earth and simple, yet at the same time superiorly embezzled with technical info (don't worry, there's explanations).
Definitely an interesting and insightful buy; get a copy if you're even remotely interested in the Internet or child protection or anything similar. And get the paperback..........it's cheaper :-) .
